PIE Chapter 3
SodaGod has released PIE: Chapter 3, the third installment of one of the better machinima projects I've seen to date. Watch it carefully - it might confuse you. It's worth the time, though - cinematography, storyline, voice acting - it's all top-notch. 11+ minutes, almost 100 mb. It's available in WMP9 format (either from us or from Machine-Enema mirrors), or in QuickTime format (here only, for now). While you're waiting for the Rule of Three Registration to open (no, it's not open yet, and no, we don't know when the Halo3.com registration page will go live), grab this and give it a viewing. He's a lover, not a sneaker.
Red vs Blue Episode 89, "The Haystack", is now up in Flash format for Sponsors. Sheila's having issues... and there's some funky stuff going on in the afterlife. Erm, the cave. Uh... whatever. Burnie didn't do a very good job of announcing this puppy, so I'm 11 hours late. Psychophan7 even beat the RvB front page with this news... (Louis Wu 19:09:58 UTC)

The Spartan Effect, Episode 4
Eddie, from Rookie Rabbit Productions, sent us a note to let us know that The Spartan Effect, Episode 4 is now online. It's funny, it's well-filmed, go download it. (If you've missed the first three eps, we announced them here: One | Two | Three.) Because their downloadable versions are hosted at Filefront (which sort of makes you jump through hoops to download), and because the QuickTime versions are encoded with h.264 (which is fantastic - but only on higher-end processors), we're offering local downloads for all four flavors of the episode, with S3Pro-encoded QuickTimes. Grab it in High Res (640x360): WMP9 (55 mb) or QuickTime (58 mb), or Low Res (320x180): WMP9 (26.3 mb) or QuickTime (24.5 mb). If you'd rather grab the h.264 QTs, or an iPod version, or watch it at YouTube, the links are available on the RR website. (Louis Wu 13:25:00 UTC)

Anticipate THIS.
GameTrailers has posted a video entitled 'Top Ten Most Anticipated Games of 2007' - 3 guesses as to what took first place, and your first two don't count. (White Rabbit was first with this, but GhaleonEB had a better link.) (Louis Wu 13:36:43 UTC)

UFO?
Heh - Z, from Halo3Forum.com, pointed out a strange little vid on his forum - what's that flying thing on Sanctuary? Lots of discussion - toss in your own two cents! (Louis Wu 21:39:53 UTC)

New vids up at Halo: Portable
Funkmon wrote to point out two new portable-formatted vids at Halo: Portable - Jamie98s' We Become Silhouettes, and the newly-posted Legend 3 (whose provenance is still being debated) are now up. Go grab 'em for your PSP/iPod/Zune! (Wait... people actually OWN Zunes?) (Louis Wu 14:42:13 UTC)

MC in Paint
Wow - sorahn noticed a YouTube vid showing someone recreating the Master Chief in MS Paint. There's something amazing about being able to create artwork that looks this good with a tool like Paint... (I could do without the soundtrack, though.) Update: here's the second part of the drawing. Thanks, newDeviLedeT1. (Louis Wu 18:43:35 UTC)

Legend 3 - Sort Of
Years ago, Mike Miller created 'Legend', and a followup, 'Legend 2' - these were basically Halo 1 campaign montages showing some really elegant gameplay at Legendary difficulty - the trick wasn't so much the difficulty, but the style with which the gameplay was performed. He was good enough that we asked him to create a Legendary Walkthrough of Halo 2, when it came out - and he did an awesome job. So today, when I opened up the forum, I was intrigued when I read this post - an anonymous poster (who went so far as to post via a proxy, so we couldn't check IP addresses) has created 'Legend 3' - which, he disclaims, is really only an homage to Mike's work, and will hopefully be REPLACED by a 'true' Legend 3 from Mike himself. I downloaded it - and I found that Halo Legend did a great job of following in Mike's footsteps; it's not about the kills, it's about HOW the kills happen. From fantastic flight control while sword-flying to a great no-scope on a perched elite to a truly novel way of killing a Major Sentinel, this vid is full of great clips. We've mirrored the original QuickTime version (linked in the forum post, 67.2 mb), and added a WMP9 version, as well (59.2 mb). Go watch - and maybe try and figure out who posted this! Halo Drumline Show
GetOverITEnor found a cool film showing Center Grove (Indiana) High School's entry in an Indoor Percussion competition in 2005 - it's a drumline show featuring Halo music. Fantastic show! (As a side note, FancyShmancy inspired me to do some hunting on the last high school band vid we posted, last week - turns out it was Escambia High School, in Pensacola, Florida.) Great to see more schools using Halo music! (Louis Wu 16:42:40 UTC)

Bungie's Angels
Obienator, who released 'Gameplay May Change During Online Play' last year (and garnered high praise for it), has released a teaser for the sequel, 'The Haxor that Loved Me' - you can watch it at YouTube from that forum post, or you can download higher-res versions. (Louis Wu 16:22:21 UTC)

highwaters, who let us know last week about a suit of Mjolnir armor he's been building, posted a movie yesterday showing that armor in use around town. If you have trouble with the MySpace vid in that first post, you can find a YouTube link in this post. Good stuff! (Louis Wu 16:46:55 UTC)

The Heretic Action Trailer
Sbear sent word that the Heretic Action Trailer has been released - this is the second of two trailers released for an upcoming series from Edgeworks Entertainment. This one should pump you up... and you don't have to wait long for start of the actual series - release date looks to be [censored]. Update: Wow. I was told that I was ruining the surprise release date by posting it here - because the page we linked to (see above) I guess was more subtle. I've removed the date. You'll have to go elsewhere for it. (Louis Wu 23:25:17 UTC)

Halo: War Journal 'Last Dance'
zech ray found a decent piece of machinima linked from the Codex Series forums - it's a trailer for Halo: War Journal 'Last Dance', and it's hosted at YouTube. It tells the story of a heroic last stand by 300 Spartans against an overwhelming Covenant force. If you've got an extra 5 minutes this Saturday, take a look! (Louis Wu 22:17:38 UTC)

How Babies are Made
Over at the Red vs Blue Sponsors forum, there's a new sponsors extra - How Babies are Made. It's in Flash format, and it basically gives away the secret to how Tucker's baby is filmed. (Hint - it's WAY more low-tech than most people thought it was.) Pretty cool! Thanks to MffnMn for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 18:53:04 UTC)

EHS Plays Halo

QsK Montage Contest Winner

Tribute to Tricking, Part II
Over at High Impact Halo, Ducain pointed out a new Halo 1 tricking tribute vid, done by some of the pioneers... there's stuff in there I've seen before, and stuff I've NEVER seen. This game is more than 5 years old now - it's beautiful to see people still pulling new tricks. Available in a variety of sizes. (Louis Wu 16:09:35 UTC)

The Assault
trigger119 sent word of a new machinima he's hosting over at GamingTV.org. It's called The Assault, and he found it because Laird (of SvF and Halo: Unyielding) did some 3D work for it. The voice acting could use some work... and so could the choreography. But the added touches (a communication screen, a Pelican, etc) are really nicely done. The downloadable versions at GTV are about 30 mb, depending on flavor, or you can watch it at YouTube. (Louis Wu 15:35:45 UTC)

Dodo Tales
Occasionally, we get word of a movie that turns out to be a lot of fun - Limit 3 Productions just let us know about Dodo Tales. Dodo is a soldier who... well, he's a lot like me, I guess. DANG IT! That is - he's not particularly good at the whole soldiering thing. The vid sets the stage for future antics - but you don't need to worry about future episodes to enjoy this one. As the creators say... you'll come to realize that there's a little Dodo in all of us. Filming is top-notch, humor and voice acting are both well-done. This vid is 10 minutes long, and is available from their website via a YouTube link - but they've also given us permission to post downloadable versions (considerably higher-res than the YouTube vid) - you can grab it in WMP9 format (97.8 mb) or QuickTime format (101 mb). Mad World
Hellhawk stopped by this morning with an announcement of a new vid - a music video set to Gary Jules' version of Tears for Fears' 'Mad World'. Very nice synching of Halo action to the song's powerful lyrics - nice job! I was unhappy with the interlacing on the video, though, so I fixed it. You can download the original in Hellhawk's forum post (QuickTime, 34.6 mb), or you can grab versions from us (QuickTime, 34.3 mb or WMP9, 32.4 mb). Either way, give this a look-see; it's a high-quality vid. (Louis Wu 22:03:54 UTC)

Space Dementia - Redone
Back in early December, Jamie98s released Space Dementia, a movie about a guy on a space station who wasn't in full control of his faculties. It was actually a very well-done vid, but Jamie wasn't happy with it; he didn't like the 'Chapters' that broke up the action. So he remade and re-released it. You can find WMP9 and QuickTime (H.264 encoded) versions at GamingTV.org. (They should be fine, but we'll put up mirrors if it looks like they're needed.) (Louis Wu 21:23:48 UTC)

Floaty Silence 2 - Heaven Leapers
Hellhawk has released Floaty Silence 2 - no relation to Floaty Silence, or even the Floaty Silence 2 Trailer, but funny nonetheless. His forum post contains a QuickTime encoded with h.264; if you'd rather have a WMP9 version (18.1 mb), or a QuickTime that's more compatible with less powerful machines (18.9 mb), we're making these available locally. Update: Hellhawk took umbrage with my comment that this movie isn't related to Floaty Silence - he's not committing to a full series, but they ARE related. Read the forum post for more details. (Louis Wu 13:46:33 UTC)
