August 4, 2006 Link to this post Corrupt Last week, bryboy remix's video 'Corrupt' passed the MPRRS with flying colors - but we wanted to get hold of a higher-quality version before we released it. That came in today - so we're posting it, in both WMP9 format (79.4 mb) and QuickTime format (79 mb). It tells the story of a disillusioned man who loses himself in dreams and flashbacks - but can he bring himself back to reality in time to save his people from a corrupt government? Great ambience, and wonderful voiceovers. As you can probably tell from the size, it's long - 15 minutes. Grab a copy and tell your friends! (Louis Wu 01:18:55 UTC)
August 4, 2006 Link to this post What the... raheem azam sent us a note about a user on YouTube that has a series of short, low-quality videos of a Brute... breakdancing. Huh? If anyone can get better video of this... I'd love to see it. (And host it, of course.) Update: okay, okay, you can stop sending emails. A LOT of people wrote to point out that this animation is relatively common; it's NOT a real 'breakdance', it's just a brute getting stuck in the floor. Party poopers. (Louis Wu 00:52:16 UTC)
August 3, 2006 Link to this post Prophecy Ep 1: The Threshold of War Lordstemplar1 submitted Prophecy Episode 1 - 'The Threshold of War' to the MPRRS recently, and they gave it a thumbs-up. (You might remember the trailer, which came through a couple of weeks ago.) This one sets up the story - action's a bit light, but tension is building. It was originally submitted encoded with the H.264 codec - this causes too many of our viewers problems, so I've reencoded it with standard QuickTime and WMP9 codecs. Grab it in WMP9 format (53.2 mb) or QuickTime format (54.6 mb) - and get ramped up for the next episode! (Louis Wu 21:11:01 UTC)
August 2, 2006 Link to this post Project Crimson Official Trailer Back in early July, Metroid05, of the Atomik Films crew, submitted a trailer for Project Crimson, a machinima series they're in the process of making. The MPRRS reviewers liked it, but the instructions we got about hosting were unclear - and Metroid05's email wasn't working. Today, the hosting questions were answered, so we're making the trailer available - both in WMP9 format (43.3 mb) and QuickTime format (43.6 mb). Project Crimson tells the story of genetic experimentation gone bad, and is heavy on the visual effects. The full machinima is due this coming winter. Take a look! (Louis Wu 18:27:32 UTC)
August 2, 2006 Link to this post Floaty Silence Hellhawk turned in a comedy that uses stock (well, almost stock) cutscene footage, and some REALLY well-done voice acting, to create a pretty funny comedy vid he calls 'Floaty Silence'. The MPRRS gave it a thumbs-up, and it had me laughing - grab it in WMP9 (39.4 mb) or QuickTime (42.4 mb) formats, and check it out for yourself! (Louis Wu 05:19:34 UTC)
August 2, 2006 Link to this post Talent's Final Montage Trailer - now in QT On Monday, we posted a link for Talent's Final Montage trailer, being hosted at Halo3Forum.com. Although there's plenty of bandwidth for it there, Halzred submitted it to the MPRRS for feedback anyway - and they liked it, quite a lot. if you want the WMP9 version, you're still welcome to grab it from H3F - but because it passed here, we're offering a QuickTime version, for those who'd rather watch that. Weighs in at 23.5 mb, and is nice and short (just about a minute and a half) - give it a go! (Louis Wu 05:15:47 UTC)
August 2, 2006 Link to this post Beat me, big daddy - 8 to the bar c0ld vengeance is back, with a new 3D screenshot (available, as usual, in both standard QuickTime format and QTVR format) - this time it's the Master Chief, laying the smack down on the Prophet of Regret. Awesome pic! Go grab a copy. (Louis Wu 03:36:08 UTC)
August 2, 2006 Link to this post Out of Mind - Front Burner Again Out of Mind is a Red vs Blue miniseries that launched on Xbox Live Marketplace in mid-June; it was suposed to be weekly (or nearly weekly), but it's not until tonight that Episode 2 was released (thanks, HaloMarine117). If you don't HAVE Xbox Live Marketplace - never fear. Rooster Teeth finally got permission (you might need a RvB account to see that) from Microsoft to release the series on their website, and Episode 1 will be posted for sponsors later tonight, with the rest of the series following over the next four weeks. (I'm assuming - though it's not stated explicitly - that low-res versions will be available for the masses a few days after the sponsors get them, as usual.) Update: (11:40 pm ET, 3:40 am UTC) It's up now for sponsors. (Louis Wu 03:32:32 UTC)
August 1, 2006 Link to this post Hero This weekend, a music video set to Nickelback's 'Hero', submitted by MaritalBlaze54, passed the MPRRS - but our bandwidth was getting tight, so we held onto it until today. The song's been used in a lot of Halo vids before - but never really as a story by itself. Very nicely filmed. Grab it in WMP9 format (40.3 mb) or QuickTime format (44.2 mb) - good stuff! (Louis Wu 17:21:49 UTC)
July 31, 2006 Link to this post Don Miguel and Talent at H3F Couple of nice montages over at halo3forum.com - Don Miguel's The Real has some great multikills (though I could have done without the acid-trip effects in the middle), and Halzred's editing a new trailer for Talent (apparently his last) - full montage is due out in the fall. Go watch! Thanks, Z. (Louis Wu 22:48:31 UTC)
July 31, 2006 Link to this post Epidemic Defy Logic has just released an old-school-style variety tricking vid called 'Epidemic'. Lots of tricks - not too many explained, so you might have trouble figuring out what's 'tricky' about certain segments, but there should be interesting stuff nonetheless. I held off posting this last night, because the High Impact Halo thread referenced by FooFoo showed very few working mirrors at that point - but it's on HIH's front page now, so what the heck. (Louis Wu 19:20:03 UTC)
July 31, 2006 Link to this post Slow News Day How did this make it onto Kotaku? (Louis Wu 12:24:27 UTC)
July 30, 2006 Link to this post MPs Ep 3: The Cure for Invincibility Chairleg Productions has released Episode 3 of their MPs series - you can grab it at their site in WMP9 format (38.3 mb), or, since it passed the MPRRS, you can use our mirrors (WMP9 version | QuickTime version). Humor remains dry, storyline remains snappy, effects remain polished and slick. Benedict is certainly the CO you can love to hate! (Louis Wu 15:57:28 UTC)
July 29, 2006 Link to this post The 1UP Show - and an interview about the Haloverse 1UP's video blog, the 1UP Show, put up a new episode focusing on Comic-Con - and there's a great interview with SketchFactor and Frankie from about 23:40 through 28:20. (There's a bunch of other Halo-related content strewn throughout the vid - Luke Smith's drive to get as many Halo action figures as he can, an interview with a well-versed member of the Halo community... but the 5 minutes with Frankie and Sketch are definitely a high point. Thanks, Tempus Fugit. (Louis Wu 01:15:32 UTC)
July 28, 2006 Link to this post Originality QuickTactical and the rest of the Epic Films crew put together 'Originality', a vid that discusses what NOT to do with your next Halo machinima project. They submitted this to the MPRRS - but because of a reviewer who simply didn't get it (and scored it almost 50 points lower than the average), it didn't pass. Luckily, we have two separate scoring algorithms in place - one averages all scores, while the other drops high and low scores; when the outliers were dropped, the movie passed handily. It's rather long (almost 13 minutes), and so rather large - so we're hosting a 'medium quality' version (QuickTactical's terminology) - the WMP9 format is 88.5 mb, the QuickTime format is 89.9 mb. The visual glitches are not a result of the compression, however; they're due to the capture card - you can grab a high-quality version of this film at FileFront (140 mb, WMP9 format) and see for yourself. Bottom line - this film contains a bunch of machinima cliches to avoid; watch it before you make your next film! (Louis Wu 14:41:16 UTC)
July 27, 2006 Link to this post Lost: Halostyle E 6 - The Average Journey Part 1 The MPRRS reviewers have definitely turned up the heat on review times; in short order, the queue has dropped from almost 20 to nearly empty. (There are 5 videos in the queue that are about to be finished, which will drop the queue size to a single movie.) Another passing vid - Episode 6 of 'Lost: Halo Style', from Injured Knee Productions. Cinematography, overall production values, and story polish all continue to improve as new episodes are made; this one's quite good. (If you haven't seen older ones, we're hosting episodes 4 and 5, and episodes 1-3 are available at ikproductions.net.) Grab this latest episode, weighing in at just under 48 mb, in either WMP9 or QuickTime formats. Good stuff! (Louis Wu 15:40:46 UTC)
July 27, 2006 Link to this post SvF Ep 10 - Flame War: Doppelganger At long last, Sponsors vs Freeloaders has been continued; Episode 10 was released last night. It's 11 minutes long, and answers a bunch of questions left open in Episode 9 (though it asks a bunch more) - you can grab high and low res WMP9 versions, and a low-res QuickTime version, from the SvF downloads page - and we're making a high-res QuickTime version available here, as well. Thanks to Yaksha, for posting a heads-up on our forum. (Louis Wu 12:15:09 UTC)
July 27, 2006 Link to this post It's M4GIC! In a quick 1-2 approval, the MPRRS shot through the second montage from G2 tah Oochie (aka TnA Gooch). More emphasis on gameplay, less on editing effects - I like 'em better that way. WMP9 version is 45.7 mb, QuickTime version is 46.1 mb. (Louis Wu 00:29:40 UTC)
July 27, 2006 Link to this post Scotty Doesn't Know Turtle Mann sent along 'Scotty Doesn't Know', a vid set to the song from 'Euro Trip'. The MPRRS reviewers gave it the nod, so grab it in WMP9 format (30 mb) or QuickTime format (29.6 mb). Minor PG-13 lyrics warning... (Louis Wu 00:27:02 UTC)
July 25, 2006 Link to this post 2 is Better than 1 - Duo Montage QsK King submitted a duo montage - footage of himself and QsK Icy, edited to within an inch of its life. The MPRRS reviewers liked it - so we're hosting copies for you. It's long - more than 8 minutes - so it weighs in at 111 mb (WMP9 or QuickTime). There's a pretty cool 'sticky-cam' effect at a bit before 6 minutes... (Louis Wu 11:04:26 UTC)
July 23, 2006 Link to this post Comedy Skit Series Ep 2 MaritalBlaze54 submitted another comedy vid to the MPRRS; shorts from Mitch Hedburg and Dane Cook, set to Halo action. The reviewers gave it a thumbs-up, so grab a copy in either WMP9 format (28.3 mb) or QuickTime format (30.8 mb). Don't forget your cranium accessories! (Louis Wu 18:52:40 UTC)
July 22, 2006 Link to this post Tetris Forever Chairleg Productions released Episode 2 of their new series, MPs, this week. This one is shaping up to be amazing - really high production values, including fantastic audio, beautifully-integrated effects, and really smooth cinematography. Humor continues to be high, and character development is really strong. We're helping out with a mirror of the WMP9 version (40.2 mb), and providing a QuickTime version as well (40.6 mb). Check it out! (Louis Wu 12:46:58 UTC)
July 21, 2006 Link to this post Crazy Halfofthetime submitted a music vid that sets Gnarls Barkley's 'Crazy' to modded Halo action; nice work. The MPRRS gave it a green light - so grab your copy in WMP9 format (36.8 mb) or QuickTime format (39.2 mb). (Louis Wu 15:30:14 UTC)
July 20, 2006 Link to this post 2old2play Over 40 Invitational Promo Vid Interesting - there's a tournament run the 3rd Tuesday of every month (yes, that
means you missed the most recent one by two days) over at 2old2play - in order to enter, you must be at least 40 years old. jynxonline put together a really nice promo vid for it - swing by and watch it! (Man, a tourney where I'm the YOUNGEST player? I'm there.) From the date on the comments of this article, I'd guess this tourney's been going for 10 months now... thanks, 3Suns. (Louis Wu 21:42:49 UTC)
