Oh So Beautiful - Halo 3 Edition
You might remember the video series from Jamie98s entitled 'Oh So Beautiful', in which he took a close look at the natural wonders in Halo 2... he's back with a version updated to Halo 3, and you can watch it streaming on his website, or download it from ours (WMP9 format is 135 mb, QuickTime format is 121 mb). It's all campaign footage, and it runs about eight and a half minutes. He even created a series of wallpapers from some of the shots seen in the video - go prettify your desktop, after you've watched the flick! (Louis Wu 21:16:33 UTC)

Kampy's Halo 3 Montage 4
Captain Spark posted a YouTubed montage he found - there's some very nice coordination between the music and the gameplay. The embedded version is standard-res (YouTube's standard), because that's their policy; if you click on the vid and go to the YouTube page, you can watch the High-res version. If even THAT'S not enough for you, you can download the 324 mb version from Halo3Forum. It's sparked an interesting discussion on montages in general - read Spark's thread for details. Shinato M1H3
Halo.fr's Johnny be good let us know about the first Halo 3 montage from Shinato, a top Dutch player. It's REALLY heavy on the effects and cuts; so much so that it's hard to see the action a lot of the time. That said, the gameplay is pretty sick. 9 minutes long, in MLG's Gameroom. Update: we received mail from Lamine, of Halorigine.com, who wanted to point out that this site hosted the montage originally, and Oeomtion and Hemdall did the editing on the film. They've got interviews with Shinato (English and French) and Hemdall (French) on this page. (To be clear: we credited Johnny be good because he contacted us with the news, not because he created the film. This is standard practice here.) (Louis Wu 20:55:35 UTC)

Rock the Vote PSAs
Rooster Teeth put their latest series, Reconstruction, on hold this week, in order to release a pair of Public Service Announcements. These were finished and ready to go before they left for PAX last week, but they needed to wait until the HD versions were up and available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace before releasing them on their website - so they went live last night. Both of them address the 'Rock the Vote' initiative on LIVE - 'Rock the VETO' explains why voting is important (in a way that every person who's ever played in Matchmaking can relate to), and 'Election Night' shows you how every vote counts. Humor plus Halo Machinima can equal education! Go, RT! (Louis Wu 15:37:23 UTC)

Assembly Gameplay - High Quality
TDG, over at NeoGAF, noticed a pretty high-quality film of Assembly on GameVideos - the gameplay's nothing special, but the view of the map is the best I've seen on the web. (You can download a 720p version of it from that page.) (Louis Wu 13:55:24 UTC)

Indestructible Halo 3 TriTage
This weekend, Z sent along a link to a tritage featuring MoNsTeR, vFoFo, and Tags II (Tags II did the editing); it's more than 10 minutes long, but it's got a lot of fun plays, and plenty of slick editing. Just under 200 mb - an enjoyable watch. Check it out! (Louis Wu 13:53:43 UTC)

Halo 3 Mythbusters: Episode 1
H3MB pointed out a new video from DTHClan called 'Halo 3 Mythbusters, Episode 1' - they go through a number of 'myths' of actions that you might or might not actually be able to do in Halo 3 matchmaking, and test them. Some of these are pretty interesting! (Louis Wu 15:02:44 UTC)

RvB's animated short
Last night, at their PAX Q&A panel, Rooster Teeth unveiled an amazing animated short showing off the Red vs Blue characters in a completely different context. They're not ready to DO anything with this material yet (they're in the feeling-out stages with various parties), so they're not planning on putting it online any time soon... but (as could be expected) the session was shakeycammed, and can be watched online (thanks, 2900d4u). These vids are totally unworthy representations of this footage... but they're all you're gonna get for the near future. (Louis Wu 15:37:53 UTC)

More Assembly vids
MasterChief2829 found another couple of gameplay vids showing off Assembly gameplay - and Kotaku has one, too. I'm sure there'll be more throughout the weekend. (Louis Wu 15:37:27 UTC)

28 Weeks Later
In late July, Jamie98s released a trailer for 28 Weeks Later, his reconstruction of the movie of the same name in the Halo 3 engine. Today, he's proud to announce the full version - a monster film, 43 minutes long, weighing in at a bit over 350 mb in downloadable format. Here's Jamie's description:

"Six months after the rage virus was inflicted on the population of Great Britain, the US Army helps to secure a small area of London for the survivors to repopulate and start again. The main focus is on a father reuniting with his 2 children, whose mother was infected by the virus."

43 minutes might seem absurdly long for a Halo machinima, but Jamie cut half the movie to make it fit (though he did so in a way that kept the story fully understandable). It's an amazing piece of work; he's captured the tension and emotion of the original, while living within the confines of the Halo 3 environment. You can download it from our servers in either WMP9 format (366 mb) or QuickTime format (359 mb) - we rarely serve files this large, so I can't promise downloads won't be slow. If you don't want to wait, or you can't handle the larger version, Jamie98s should have a streaming version on his site at some point soon. Two thumbs up! (Louis Wu 14:54:28 UTC)

A Fun Suicide Snipe
A couple of weeks ago, we got mail from CrAnkMYkcid about a pretty funny sniper suicide he'd committed on Last Resort. You can't comment on the clip on B.net, because he's gotten himself blacklisted there (CrankFiber is his B.net username). However, he's uploaded it to GameVee, as well, and because I liked it, I've added a pair of HD downloads of it, with a few angles (I'm leaving for PAX in an hour, so the editing is about as minimal as it gets...) - WMP9 (12.4 mb) or QuickTime (10.5 mb). Go check it out - and remember to watch those corners when you're sniping! (Louis Wu 14:27:44 UTC)

Willingly Insane
Kido Badtower stopped by to announce his machinima series 'Willingly Insane' - he's already created 9 episodes of Season 1, and 4 episodes of Season 2, but he's remaking the Season 1 vids. All eps are hosted at YouTube. Go see what you think! (Louis Wu 11:08:52 UTC)

Outpost: Isil Ep 9 - Full Frontal
The Treeskunk crew has put together Outpost: Isil Episode 9 - Full Frontal. You have to wonder how the two teams actually still have living members left 9 episodes in... lots of death and destruction here. You can download it in a lot of different formats, or watch it streaming (in a lot of different places) from the Treeskunk website. (Louis Wu 11:15:37 UTC)

Top 10 Halo 3 Exterminations video
Hawty McBloggy found a 'Top 10 Halo 3 Exerminations' video on YouTube - quality is aweful, but the gameplay's pretty nice. Number four, especially - totally clutch play. (There are way more htan 10 here - the honorable mentions start about halfway through the film.) (Louis Wu 11:17:06 UTC)

Yes it was, I won, A+
Over at the Rooster Teeth website, Red vs Blue: Reconstruction Chapter 12 has been released - things take a pretty serious turn. (Don't worry, there's plenty of comedy.) I'm loving this more with every episode. Looks like elpolloguapo was first with the heads-up. (Louis Wu 10:41:08 UTC)

Blood Gulch, in Crysis
Over at NeoGAF, Kibbles pointed out a YouTube video containing footage of a fan-made mod of Crysis, showing off Blood Gulch. The environment itself is gorgeous. The gameplay... I wasn't so impressed with. You can discuss this on our forum in this thread. (Louis Wu 10:40:08 UTC)

G.R.I.E.F. Trailer
You might remember Smooth Few Films - they've been making machinima for quite some time (with lots of accolades), and have dipped their toes in the Halo 3 world (The Over-Achiever, The Bag Boy, The GunStop Way) - looks like they're back, with a trailer for an upcoming project called 'G.R.I.E.F'. As usual, high production values, huge potential - looking forward to the actual series! Huzzah! Thanks, Rosco-128. (Louis Wu 12:56:01 UTC)

Arby 'n' the Chief S3E02: Wedding
Will Ludwig was the first to point out the latest Arby 'n' the Chief episode, but Xmoosev3 provided a link that gives you creator notes, and links to both Machinima.com and YouTube versions. The video itself is just over 8 minutes long, and shows what happens when Arby and the Chief go to a Halo wedding. I gotta say, it was pretty funny. I feel almost bad saying that. But it was. Halo: The Ballet
Taco Power was asked by a friend for a song to use in a university project demonstrating modern ballet - the end result mixed 'Halo' and 'The Siege of Madrigal'. The dancers are amateurs - but it's pretty cool to see Halo used in this context! (Louis Wu 13:23:37 UTC)

Boom De Yada - again
The Discovery Channel's "I Love the Whole World" commercial is a favorite for folks looking to remake icons in the Halo universe - we've already mentioned a couple of instances of this (here and here). I ran across another one yesterday, though, that I thought did a great job with picking relevant clips. It's old - but I liked it a lot! (Louis Wu 14:06:09 UTC)
