Listening to Gamers Play, not Talk
The Screen Play blog in the Sydney (AU) Morning Herald has an article about Framework, a game development conference that took place in Melbourne yesterday. A significant chunk of it is devoted to some information from Keith Steury, who was involved in usability testing for Halo when he worked for Microsoft Game Studios. There's some fascinating info about how decisions were made, and what sort of changes came about because of the testing. Go read! Update: DOH! Didn't notice Ding beat me to this by a few minutes. Worth the read twice, I guess. (Pretty funny that we focused on the same point for our headlines...) (Louis Wu 15:17:58 UTC)

Kim Talks Games
Shane Kim talked to Computer and Video Games, and both Halo Wars and the Bungie-mediated Peter Jackson Halo project came up. Nothing terribly new - but you can glean some tidbits by reading between the lines. For example, TVG decided that Kim's assertion that Halo Wars wasn't ready to be shown at Microsoft's Spring Showcase this year was evidence that the game won't be out before 2009. (This is certainly not the first time that's been speculated, but each brick helps build the house.) Go read! (Louis Wu 14:58:14 UTC)

How to Suck Less at Halo - a Series
Geekscape Games is running a series of articles called 'Teabag Prevention' - they're there to teach you how to 'suck less at Halo'. Week 1 was published back on April 22, and focused on the Legendary maps. Week 2, published a day later (heh), contains Sniper Rifle tips. Week 3, from May 2, helps you with a Battle Rifle, and Week 4, posted just a couple of days ago, provides tips on grenade placement. They're definitely not going for the crystal and linen set with their presentation - but then, that set doesn't play a lot of Halo, anyway. Go read! (Louis Wu 15:07:43 UTC)

New? Or Improved?
XerxdeeJ popped in with news of an interesting piece over at the Tied the Leader blog - it's a panel discussion about downloadable content, where a large number of TTL stalwarts weigh in about whether they'd rather see totally new and fresh maps... or reimaginings of older favorites. While there is definitely a range of opinions, I was actually surprised by the consistency in the bottom-line feelings of the respondents; I thought there'd be a more pronounced polarity. Go read!
