Shane Kim Talks about Halo 3
Gamespy has a sizeable interview with Shane Kim, Microsoft Game Studios' Corporate VP, about Halo 3. There are lots of tidbits that might make you go 'hmm...' - let's see if I can grab a couple of juicy quotes.
"The feeling I want people to have after they finish Halo 3 is the same feeling they had when "Return of the King" ended. Satisfied, but sad." [Sad? uh oh... -ed]
"Bungie has their plans well mapped out. You have to, when you have a studio like that, and you need to know what you're moving your people on to. So they have the collaboration with Peter Jackson on the animated series." [This quote was actually picked up by FallHammer, in our forum - misstatement by Kim, or a leak of what the next project really is?]

MLG Meadowlands - coverage kicks off
Bunch of Pro Halo news; MLG's second tournament of the season kicks off today in the Meadowlands, and there's a bunch of buzz. Heat Maps are cool.

The Bungie Weekly Update is up very early this week - mostly because Frankie is in Europe, where it's later now. So for him, it's the same. Or something. Anyway, go read it. Beta stuff (yeah, they're sorry), a huge discussion about game ratings in Germany (and fun facts about Berlin), and Banhammer stuff. Good reading! (Luke needs to work on his Mister Chief. OMG EMO
Yesterday was not the Halo community's finest hour - anywhere you went, you found people frothing about the Crackdown/Halo 3 Beta issue, and while there were a number of cool voices counseling calm, there were many, many more strident ones, screaming for somebody's - ANYBODY'S - head. (We received actual death threats here at HBO. As though 1) we had ANYTHING at all to do with the problem, and 2) threatening to kill us would help the problem go away...) There wasn't all that much to be lighthearted about - but I ran across this story at Joystiq that helped a lot. Go read it - and laugh. (Louis Wu 13:03:40 UTC)

Happy Mother's Day - and MLG Impressions
Everybody's got a mother in their life - theirs, their kids', their relatives', their friends' - find one and tell her how important she is. The fact that I'm not a mother will necessarily cut down the time I've got to post Halo news today - so I'm going to do my best to clear out the in-box right now, and move on. First up - MLG has both video and text-based impressions of the Beta online - go read and watch. Thanks, 3Suns. And geez, while I'm here, let's look at some of the other big Beta pieces out there. Game Head has put their interview with Bungie employees online - thanks, Mondo j. Gecko. Gamepro has posted a guide to the beta. Gamespot did a nice interview with Bungie folks at the SF show - thanks, LoneRanger 2.5. RVideo put up a post that links to lots of footage - discussion threads are at Halo3Forum.com, downloads are hosted by Mythica. Halo Informer wrote up a Hands-on. There are many, many more. Betalicious
MrJukes has been a part of the Halo moviemaking community since the very beginning; we still host an old mirror of his website, because his jumping vids ROCKED. If you swing by Bungie.net, you'll find a cool interview with the man - and a link to 'Betalicious', his latest piece of work. It's an ode to Halo 3 beta play (he works for Microsoft, so he's been playing on the internal alpha and beta for a while now) - it should pump you up for next week's beta kickoff. Because we know that a lot of people simply can't enjoy WMP9 versions, we've put up a QuickTime version - this is the second in our H.264 series (yes, it looks like we're FINALLY moving away from Sorenson3Pro, at least to some degree). Go read the interview, go watch the movie - and you can jump into a pretty big forum thread if you want to comment. Update: QT is now mirrored by Blackstar - thanks!
