He ain't askin' for much...
Narcogen has posted the second of his Narc's Retorts over on Rampancy.net; this one is titled 'A Christmas Wish To Bungie'. It's long... very long... but boils down to a hope that access to raw XBL statistics will be possible in the future. (I'm pretty sure it's a hope with a chance of being answered.) Go read it! (Louis Wu 03:26:47 UTC)

Ramming Speed
Rams, over at Battleground: Halo, has put up another edition of the Rams Report; this one looks at the handling of Halo PC since its release. I actually disagree with most of his conclusions, though he does raise some very valid points. (He also looks at the Halo comic scene, but I hesitate to comment at all, because I'm afraid that ANYTHING I say will be misinterpreted by someone; go read it, and if you're angry at the end, read it again. If you're still angry... you might just have a stick that needs removing.) (Louis Wu 17:59:13 UTC)

Geoff Fink (gfunk) and Gus Sorola (guS) , of Red vs Blue, have been interviewed over at machinima.com today; if you're interested about how they got their start, and where they're going, go read this! Thanks to Hugh Hancock for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 14:56:06 UTC)

Halo: First Base
Not long ago, it became clear that the submissions for One One Se7en were quickly outstripping our chance of hosting them in a reasonable timeframe, and the Archive was born. (Next week's Archive update already has nearly 30 strips in it.) It took much of the pressure off the Guest queue... but Stuntmutt hasn't been allowing that queue to shrink; he's added a Holiday category (Thursday's Guest strip was postponed for a Thanksgiving strip) and he's been pretty consistent with the Sunday strips (there's one today, in fact), bumping the Guest strips patiently waiting for that Sunday slot. Yes, his commentary is right on the money. Yes, he's more consistent at making you laugh than the guest strips are. Yes, yes, yes, it's true that many Guest strip creators simply cut and paste from Stuntmutt's artwork. But what is One One Se7en all about, anyway? Isn't it about empowering average joes to create a piece of a highly successful comic? Shouldn't Stuntmutt realize that it's not about him? Should there be a vote to remove the regular strip altogether, replacing it with Guest strips, to give joe sixpack a fighting chance? Well, while you're thinking about the answers to these questions, go read today's Sunday strip. And please, please, PLEASE... don't try these lines yourselves in a bar. (Louis Wu 14:56:56 UTC)

Pronounced 'Eye-Muck'
Stuntmutt, tired of the constant sniping he puts up with in the forum, has taken his OWN shot - at the Mac version of Halo. Dang, if it didn't make me smile, I'd have to smack him. Go read One One Se7en today. (Louis Wu 14:23:32 UTC)

Coverup? Really?
AGAIN with the updates. Finn, this time, picks out some of the juicier morsels from the Halo Story mailbag (and a forum post or two) to peel another layer of mystery from the onion that is Halo. Go read. (Louis Wu 08:58:24 UTC)

Ask, and ye shall receive... THIS time.
Another Halo Story page update - this time, in response to a forum thread. (Okay, probably not. But the timing was pretty damn good.) Go read. (Louis Wu 00:05:27 UTC)

Best of the Best
The Rabid Lilliputians, a clan of... well, small players with their tongues wedged firmly in their cheeks, have set up a tournament: Best of the Best. You go to their site, you vote for who you think are the top 10 HPC players. After the voting period has ended, the top 15 nominated players will e chosen, and will meet in a single game. (The extra slot is for an observer.) Go read the details at tRL, or see stan's post in our forum. (Louis Wu 21:30:08 UTC)

Bouncy BOLL
There's an article over at the Junkyard, written by MrFluffyPants26, about BOLL's mods. The first half is pretty interesting - some thoughts from BOLL on which mods he likes best, and what he used - and then there's a description of a few of the best-known mods. The second half is completely indecipherable - it's a list, but it's not clear what it's a list OF. What mods exist? What's changed in particular mods? (Which ones, then?) Dunno. Anyway, go read the first half. (Louis Wu 21:13:36 UTC)

CPL talks to Randy Pitchford
CPL has posted an interview with Randy Pitchford - it's pretty focused on league gaming (suprise, surprise), but has some really intriguing info in it. Like this question:

Will HaloPC support demo-recording/playback functions?

Randy : A multiplayer demo recording function is in development at Gearbox. We hope to be rolling this out in time for the winter CPL event as it will happen automatically with some of the changes to allow modification of the game that are happening soon. We must allow the possibility that it won't be available then, though. Our priorities have shifted a lot since launch because our number one priority is responding to the needs of our customers.

Woohoo! Go read the rest. Found this at Blue's News, thanks, Ash. (Louis Wu 09:37:16 UTC)

Ticked Mice.
And again. This time it's Finn, working toward the Tag Team knockout of the Halo Story Page mailbag (though the first post of the day is mnemesis') - more stuff than you can shake a Forerunner at. (Can you even SHAKE Forerunners? I mean, given the doors on Halo, they must be pretty big, right? Or was that just so their trapezoidal cars could get in? No, that couldn't be it...) Anyway, go read. (And oh, yeah, the fixed content at the top of the subpages has been updated, as well. That Finn... he's a funny guy. (I think Stuntmutt was looking for more corn material...) ) (Louis Wu 16:49:55 UTC)

Be careful what you ask for.
oddworld18, afraid that folks might miss his pearls of wisdom strewn around the Halo Story page today, took the opportunity to insult the management in an attempt to guilt his way onto the front page. It worked. This time. Go read the Story page; there's more than just that charlatan's paranoid ramblings there... (Louis Wu 21:25:06 UTC)

Reactor news, part 2
mehve pointed out that the 'quick Reactor report' we noted yesterday was actually posted from the show; they were NOT back yet. They ARE back now, though, and she's posted a second part, focusing mostly on the reasons Halo fans go to Anime conventions (and how Bungie employees can get their butts kicked at Halo sometimes). Go read! (Louis Wu 10:48:15 UTC)

The Great Halo Scavenger Hunt
And so it begins... The Great Halo Scavenger Hunt is on! It's been a long time in the making; this is a contest that involves many different websites in the Halo/Bungie community. Part of the fun is actually going to be figuring out what you're supposed to be doing, so we're not going to give you all that much to go on, to start with... but you should stop by TGHSH Rules page for an overview, basic rules, and a prize list. (It's a hell of a prize list. Bungie rocks.) There are two interwoven parts to this hunt; there's the main scavenger hunt (which is convoluted, and requires collecting a LOT of information, but has some pretty slick schwag for those who make it to the finish line), and the 'Instant Win' category, which provides bonus gifts for the first 7 people to discover the IW doodads. Through it all, we'll be here, moderating, helping out with occasional clues, doing our best to keep folks from cheating their way to the end. And for those around during the Glyph contest we held a couple of years ago, a familiar name will be back to egg you on. In fact, she's already popped her head up... Enough of this - go read the Rules page, and start searching! (Louis Wu 18:25:19 UTC)

Massive Halo PC content infusion from IGN
IGN has posted their review of Halo PC... and a whole lot more. For regular visitors, the review, 45 screenshots, and 9 streaming video flicks (multiplayer action) are available. (Massive spoilers in the screenshots, if you haven't played yet.) For Insiders, there's also a Game Guide (basically an updated version of their Xbox guide, although it's missing the 6 new maps), and a video review (available in large and small QuickTime and WMP movies, ranging from 29 to 95 mb, also full of spoilers). There are, of course, downloadable versions of the public streaming vids, too, for Insiders. They weren't thrilled with the game. Biggest complaints were repetitive level design, too-taxing hardware requirements, and a balance that seems (to them) still geared to console playing. They gave it an 8.2 overall. Go read/watch the parts you have access to! Thanks to bikeman704 for the tip. (Louis Wu 11:18:18 UTC)
