Black Bandaids and Peanut Butter Blood
The Bungie Humpday Challenge was back yesterday - even though it wasn't Humpday, they weren't playing Halo, and in fact they weren't even playing anyone outside of Bungie Studios. The writeup's pretty funny, though, so go read it! Frankie was first - as usual. Cheater. (The contest he mentioned will be made public later today, so stay tuned.) (Louis Wu 14:23:58 UTC)

Battle of the Masses - 4v4
Dyslexia has written up Part II of his Battle of the Masses piece on MLG Chicago over at mlgpro.com. This portion focuses on the 4v4 teamplay, instead of the FFA stuff. The writeup (once again) is a great read, and really puts you there - or as close to there as you can get at this point, a few weeks later. Go read! Thanks, 3Suns. (Louis Wu 13:46:12 UTC)

No more coke and hookers
I love days like this. (Well, not really.) Finally catching up on Halo news - sorry for the delay! Last night, Bungie put up a new Top Story - a number of the staff put forth their New Years Resolutions. There are a couple of TINY Halo mentions, which allow this post to squeak by in the 'relevant to HBO' category... but many of you will be more interested in the oblique references to Bungie's new project. There's no HARD info... but a few nice teasers! (It's playable, it's got a multiplayer mode, they'll be talking about it soonish.) Go read! There was a fight on the forum for dibs on first post... looks like Spartan Jag might have won, though the typo in his title is unfortunate. (Funny - but unfortunate.) (Louis Wu 17:24:29 UTC)

Big, Fat, and Fuzzy.
Stephen Loftus has been busy again - this time, he's taken a close look at the Bumblebee-class Lifepod. Everything from design considerations to statistics to known passenger rosters have been covered - as usual, the depth is astounding. Go read. (Louis Wu 20:37:50 UTC)

Matt is L337.
An inauspicious beginning for 2006... down for a day with stomach flu. Seems like it's over, though, so here we go again! To start with, Eegs002 posted a note on Saturday about a comic his friend does, called 'Unfortunately Sober'. The December 28 episode was Halo 2-related. Go read! (Louis Wu 17:13:58 UTC)

Friday Fanfic
Well... it's the second week of experimentation with the submission process for the Halo Fan Fiction section, and clearly a number of submitters haven't bothered to glance at the submission guidelines. Several stories were rejected for lack of basic formatting for readability - if you want to ensure that your story is archived here, you need to at least read the rules. That said - there were STILL 22 pieces that got added this week - go read! (Louis Wu 16:02:47 UTC)

A Tense Countdown
What makes this week's Halo Babies comic so funny is how appropriate it is... for both the BABIES... and for forumgoers everywhere. (What does that tell you about forumgoers?) Go read! (Louis Wu 14:48:41 UTC)

Weekly Fiction Update
We tried a week between Fan Fiction updates (by request of the FF community), and it doesn't seem like such a bad idea; 16 new entries this week. If the numbers rise to something intolerable, we'll consider ways to decrease it... but for now, this seems to be working! Go read. (Louis Wu 14:51:29 UTC)

Ohio Tourney in January
zerosignal wanted people to know about a double elimination Halo tourney that will take place at the Bottom Line Bar and Grille in Austintown, OH on January 28th - no word on entry fees, prizes, or directions. If you're interested, I guess you should email him. Update: Looks like another one was announced on our forum last night - 4v4 on an upcoming (so far undetermined) Saturday, in Lititz, PA. Entry is $100/team, top prize is $1000. More details in the forum post. Update 2: And another one, in Groton CT, January 7. $10-$20/person, depending on type of competition, prizes based on participation. Go read! (Louis Wu 13:57:07 UTC)

Welcome to Chicago
MLG has an intro article up about their Central Conference Championships, which kicked off last night in Chicago. If you're on a PC, you won't be able to beat their Video on Demand service for watching games - in fact, you'll probably get a better view with VoD than you would if you were there! Go read/watch! Thanks, 3Suns. (Louis Wu 14:39:05 UTC)

Fried Dough and Maypoles Don't Mix.
Looks like the Bungie Weekly Update is online now - congrats to Psychophan7, who posted before Frankie did. (I'm guessing Frankie left the office, or something, actually.) Awesome news about the Halo 2 Soundtrack Volume 2 (only a year later than expected!), a suggestion that there may yet be more Halo novels, a nod to Jon Stewart, a very funny incident involving a monkey, some basic common sense (what?), and a great Mister Chief. Should be in the BWU archive soon. Go read! (Louis Wu 01:00:59 UTC)

Shut your noisehole is how.
There's a very cool new article up at bungie.net, discussing how Nicole, otherwise known as Spartan 458 and a denizen of Nassau Station (found only in Dead or Alive 4), came to be. (First off - the girl is HUGE. 6'8", 370 lbs; she's bigger than your average NFL linebacker. I'm guessing it's solid muscle, though...) There's lots of info about her origins, about her place in the Halo universe, about Frankie's ability (or inability) to pull off a plasma stick in DOA4. Go read! (Louis Wu 03:18:49 UTC)

Fan-run Fanfic Contest
I missed this yesterday, but Bungie.net has news of a Fan Fiction contest being run by Bungie Fans Online and the Bungie.net Fanfic Group. Full details can be found in links leading off that news article - go read! (Louis Wu 16:37:42 UTC)

The Covenant CCS-class Battle Cruiser
Stephen Loftus has once again delved into the universe Bungie created, and put together a substantial quantity of information about the Covenant Battle Cruiser (the Truth and Reconciliation is an example of this class of vessel). It's a pretty fascinating read - but be warned, the page contains almost 300k of graphics (mostly in the form of thumbnails). Some of the pictures are amazing. Go read! (If you're new to Mr. Loftus' work, and you find this interesting, be sure to check out his other projects!) (Louis Wu 19:04:09 UTC)

Baldness: It's a Way of Life.
Bungie's Weekly Update went up an hour or so ago, and Frankie, predictably, was first with the news. Minor comments on recent Halo movie news, welcome news that SketchFactor is a DADDY, reactions to the playlist updates, mention of a nasty little bug in the recent emulator update on Xbox Live (more info can be found at Gamespot, Gamasutra, and Voodoo Extreme, among other places), some staff shifts (we'll miss you, Ninja on Fire! and welcome back, Shishka!), and the silliest Mister Chief in quite some time. Go read. (Louis Wu 02:45:04 UTC)

Laughing Voices In My Head
Over at Geezer Gamers, there's an article describing the Pentathlon, a 5-game (duh) tournament "where you don't really care who wins, but you're just a better person for just having played in it." Sounds like a blast! Go read. (Louis Wu 15:02:42 UTC)

Bigger than Boy Meets Girl
Narcogen looks pretty deeply at the videogame-as-art issue (can a videogame be art? Can the story told by a game be as rich as the story told, say, in a novel, or by a film?) in his latest Retort at Rampancy.net. Go read - but prepare to think. (Louis Wu 20:48:21 UTC)

Sharing your life.
Qbakies let us know yesterday about his gaming blog, Almighty Q(uandaries)... and today, he's updated it again with a new entry that looks at Halo, and Bungie's realization of online socialization that we know as MatchMaking, as family-builders - not the family you were born into, but the people you choose to surround yourself with. (Wow, was that all one sentence?) Great read, and a wonderful way to express some of the happiness I, myself, find online when playing Halo 2. Go read it. (Louis Wu 21:31:10 UTC)

MLG Atlanta Review Part II
The second part of Dyslexia's MLG Atlanta writeup has been posted at MLGPro.com - fantastic writeup, though I wish he'd have mentioned the maps they were playing on. (They're not ANYWHERE that I can find, in fact.) Go read about all the action! (The VoD Atlanta footage is back up, as well.) Thanks again to 3Suns. (Louis Wu 14:39:32 UTC)

Spartan 458, deconstructed
IGN continues to post new information about Dead or Alive 4... and there continues to be new info about the Halo tie-in. This article has info about Nicole's special attacks (The MAC lunge and a plasma grenade move, for example), as well as another mini-interview with Itagaki. There's some pretty interesting stuff in there - go read! Thanks to 3Suns for noticing it. (Louis Wu 14:18:12 UTC)
