Halo PC Update - near the end!
Friday night in Redmond... time for another Halo PC update. Michel Bastien, Bungie's man-in-the-field on this one, is back from the Gearbox studios, and has written up some drool-worthy words for you. They're in the final stages of testing; they've actually got release candidates going. Won't be too long! Go read the details at Bungie.net. (Louis Wu 00:44:08 UTC)

That's just too long, man.
I'd have to say that this is getting out of hand. Luckily, it seems to be the last piece... Go read the rantings of Skavenger's feverish mind. You might scratch your head once or twice... but if you've spent ANY time at all on our forum, I guarantee you'll laugh at least a little. (Louis Wu 14:25:25 UTC)

The toughest job you'll ever love
...wait, that's the Peace Corps. Never mind. It's Friday... so it's time for a Halo PC Weekly Update. This week, it looks like Sketch is doing the writing, instead of Michel Bastien - Michel is too busy helping get the game finished, and Sketch needed a break from playing Halo PC online, anyway. In fact, the update is mostly a recap of what worked (and didn't work) for him in gameplay. Get jealous, or file away the knowledge for future use... but whatever you do, go read it. Do I want to know what poutine is?
The second go-round of 'Ask the Cananimators', a Bungie.net feature in which anim8rjb and bentllama (the two Canadian animators on the Halo 2 dev team) answer your questions about animation, Canada, hockey, and life in general, has been posted. None of the sentences in the article are as long as the one I just wrote. Go read it. (And yes, I DO know what poutine is.) (Louis Wu 21:49:56 UTC)

UO looks at the Fanstock event
Tycho, from Unreal Ops (an Unreal fansite), came along on the Halo PC Fanstock event last week. He's posted his own impressions of the game (as well as three new screenshots, snapped from a beta build we were given) over at the Unreal Ops site. A nicely non-Halo perspective... go read it! If you read only one post...
I take the day off... and Weekly Review decides to post on time. Nice. Go read it... does a nice job of summarizing last week. And then some. (Louis Wu 11:13:12 UTC)

Gamespy's Fanstock coverage goes live
Another Halo PC article - this time from Gamespy (hey, these guys I remembered to mention!). Nice writeup - absolutely worth a read. Plus, there are 25 1024x768 screenshots - some the same as the CVG shots released yesterday - from the first 4 single-player levels (but all of Gamespy's come without a watermark). Go read! Halo PC Update - from Bungie
For those frustrated by the quietness of the Halo PC teams (multiple Randy Pitchford interviews notwithstanding), swing on by Bungie's Tru7h and Reconciliation site for a major update. (It can also be found here, in a more permanent location, in case you're reading this down the road.) Michel Bastien talks about where their time has been spent, and what's coming... and offers a custom screenshot (you'll have to post your request on Bungie's Underground forum). Go read it - now! 18 points of articulation
mehve has updated the Bungie community on the Halo Action Figures - they're on their way out of the factory right now! They should be hitting the Bungie Store (and other outlets) by early August. Go read about the details! Update: mehve points out that the key points of this news bit have been added to the Halo Action Figures FAQ. (Louis Wu 20:44:22 UTC)

They just won't quit.
These guys STILL don't have the hang of the Series field in the database (6 of these 11 Fan Fiction entries had the series set incorrectly)... but we love 'em anyway.

Go read. (Louis Wu 11:51:36 UTC)

Gawd. That's a lotta words.
Fifteen Fan Fiction pieces since the last time we posted (what, 36 hours ago?). You guys are getting REALLY sloppy with your Series links - tons of you are ignoring them altogether, others are picking the wrong series... BE CAREFUL. Thanks.

Now go read. (Louis Wu 02:55:23 UTC)

Pallor: Spotlighted
Ever wondered what makes community fixture Pallor tick? The Junkyard continues its 'Spotlight' series by shining the beam on Meg. Go read about her past as a figure skater, and her future as... well, wherever her present actions lead. Or something. (Louis Wu 18:04:21 UTC)

Holy crap.
The latest story to grace the front page of Bungie.net (bumping a picture of yours truly off after only 16 hours - thanks, mehve) is a bizarre tale of background research, in which several members of the Halo 2 dev team spent a day playing with real guns, courtesy of the US Special Forces. In the words of Robert McLees, "It was an amazing experience and it has fueled my brains with tons of cool ideas." Go read it. And realize that your Halo 2 experience will be that much more realistic because of it. (Louis Wu 19:48:29 UTC)

Gamers.com updates Halo 2 preview
Gamers.com has replaced their Xbox Nation reprint with a preview that is built around the E3 demo. (It's really just a blow-by-blow of the demo itself, with a bit of commentary tossed in.) It reminds me that I could have put the XBN article up months ago... I'll have to find it. Meanwhile, go read Gamers.com! Thanks to Marcus Mann for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 20:45:24 UTC)

There's a pattern here...
Gamespot has put up its 'Best of E3' awards. Once again, Halo 2 takes Xbox honors... but was beaten by Half-Life 2 for overall honors. Go read why. (Thanks to Da Loaph for the heads-up.) Update: Da Loaph missed it first time through (and so did we) - but Halo PC made #2 in the Top PC games. I'm happy he went back! (Louis Wu 00:00:36 UTC)

Halo 2: Second Best of Show, says Gamespy

OXM Fanfest Report on B.net
Frank O'Connor, Executive Editor of OXM, enjoyed himself at the Fanfest last week. So much so that he wrote up the details in an entertaining report. And gave it to Bungie. Who posted it at B.net. Go read it. (mnemesis gets first dibs on notice.) (Louis Wu 20:09:52 UTC)

Hamilton waxes sage
Gamespy snagged Hamilton Chu for a discussion of Halo 2, and it went live yesterday. It's a very nice piece; I particularly liked this bit of game development philosophy:

You want to give the player choice -- or, in a certain sense, the illusion of choice. As a designer, there's the one best experience -- in our genre, that is. There's one best experience you want the player to have. Usually you want to make it clear to the player what they're supposed to do, and sometimes if you're good they'll think they thought of it themselves.

Go read the rest of it. Thanks to Halo-Game's Eclarap for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 17:20:47 UTC)
