You can't get ready for this.
Forum regular Shishka has written up his impressions of Bungie goodness seen during his first day on the E3 floor - and it sounds like he's still coming off the high. Go read it and drool if you're coming to E3, weep if you're not. (Louis Wu 05:57:03 UTC)

Pitchford Holds Forth
The Randy Pitchford interview we mentioned yesterday has come to pass... and gawd, is it full of information. Everything from how Gearbox got the job to build Halo PC in the first place, to how they're getting around some of the stickiest problems in the conversion, to what WASN'T hard... wow. Go read this. Thanks to TankRamp, of the venerable Battleground: Halo, for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 19:08:31 UTC)

PC Halo - Revealed!
Wowowow. The promised Gamespy Halo PC article went online early this morning... and I'm still reeling. (There are actually two articles - the main one, and a separate one on the new multiplayer features available in the PC version.) Release date is tentatively August or September... and it's gonna be a winner. The 10 campaign levels have been translated faithfully from the original; with the exception of the higher resolution (it was demoed at 1024x768 for Gamespy, but the implication was that even higher resolutions should be supported) and the interface tweaks (there are more keys on a keyboard than buttons on an Xbox controller, after all), the solo campaign will be identical to the original. The differences will lie in multiplayer. There are 6 brand-new multiplayer maps, as well as the ability to use the covenant fuel cannon, fly the banshee, and drive a modified warthog (with a rocket launcher in the back). There are also new multiplayer modes, and the ability to tweak existing modes:

...you can give the Red Team a set of Warthogs that respawn immediately, while giving the Blue Team one Scorpion tank that only reappears after a minute.

The only feature of the Xbox version that's in danger of NOT making it over to the PC side is Coop play. Gearbox is hopeful they can find a way to implement it easily before Halo PC goes gold... but they can't promise anything. Oh, and the keyboard/controller debates can finally be decided, since they've included gamepad support; grudge matches are SURE to be played. Anyway, there are pages and pages of juicy content in the two stories, and 16 screenshots/concept art images... so go read! (Louis Wu 12:52:57 UTC)

E3 details - right from the horse's - um, pig's mouth
Holy flaming bacon, Batman! Bungie.net has put up a look at what's to come at E3 next week... and just reading the text will clog your arteries. If you're young and healthy, swing by and read up... if you're old and fat, be careful. (There are also juicy details on PC Halo , from Michel Bastien, its producer... go read. And read. And then jog around the block a few times.) (Louis Wu 01:14:36 UTC)

The Road to Fanfest
SketchFactor has put up a massive article at Bungie.net describing how things are going on the way to next week's fanfest, and what the fan at home can expect to see (and get) during this time. Lots of cool stuff, but here are a couple of tidbits. There's a Fanfest Q&A database that Bungie.net users can add questions to - anything submitted before Monday will get collected by Sketch, and some of the best will be answered by Bungie employees in attendance at the Fest. (Check the 'Have Questions? Get Answers' section of the article for more details on what can be asked, and so on.) There'll be an online version of the traditional Bungie Trivia Contest, hosted right here at HBO - but it'll only be available on Thursday night. Be sure to stop by after 7 pm PST (2 am Friday UTC) to try your hand! (The online winner will receive a Bungie Prize Pack.) The Bungie webcam will be at the show, so remember: Someone Has To Watch The Webcam. Go read the rest of the piece - and start drooling! (Louis Wu 19:46:24 UTC)

I'm gonna need to buy a new shovel...
They're un-friggin'-stoppable. The team of mnemesis and Finn seem to be determined to clear the entire Story page email archive before the Armageddon - and at this rate, they'll do it handily. A pretty sizeable update from mnemesis tonight covers a wide range of ideas - and bumps down a post from yesterday that we didn't even have time to mention! Go read. (Take THAT, Opie!) On the floor, at the fanfest - E3 and PC Halo
The boys at Battleground: Halo got a note from David Mertz, the lead level designer for Halo PC. Go read it on their front page (or at this more permanent location) for details on their preparations for E3. (Louis Wu 12:12:27 UTC)

Bungie Fanfest Update
SketchFactor has posted some information over at Bungie.net about the upcoming FanFest to take place at E3. The limit of 200 attendees has been reached, but a few of them haven't provided valid contact information; these will be dropped from the list on Monday if this doesn't change, making those spots available. Additionally, if plans change and people find they can't attend, they should let SF know, so that he can remove their names from the list, and make the spots available. There are more details - go read it at Bungie.net. (Louis Wu 18:27:02 UTC)

Bungie.net Pro - you gotta have it.
Check this out. Bungie's instituted a new pay-for-content service called Bungie.net Pro. For $7/month, you get access to boatloads of webcams, an online version of the Halo Story Bible, Developer diaries, daily Halo 2 screenshots... and MORE! Go read about it. Then sign up. (I got in early - I was subscriber 20. Not too shabby!) (Louis Wu 10:16:17 UTC)

GDC Ninja Visit
Forum regular Shishka was at the Game Developer Conference yesterday; you can see his report (and a few pics) in this forum thread. I want one of those 'Make Your Mother Proud' signs! Update: Dan Chosich pointed out an article at HomeLAN Fed on the talk given by the Bungie folks on Halo. It's not very extensive, but there are some interesting tidbits:

Bungie created most of their own development tools for Halo and demoed them to the audience but unforunately their level design tool called Sapien didn't work completely during the panel so people were not able to see how Halo levels actually look inside the editor.

Go read the rest! Update 2: poena.dare found some more GDC coverage at GameSpy - I'd point to it directly, but his article at Bungie Sightings is a must-not-miss. (Louis Wu 10:43:14 UTC)

The Emperor Has No Pants (Anymore)
Bungie's Pants Contest is over... Alex Edwards was 7 cents shy of the correct total of $50.57. (That's almost twice what I'd have guessed was in there... I think I got the size wrong.) There are more details (and a better writeup) in the B.net article, so go read it. (Louis Wu 02:29:17 UTC)

Back to the Future
Couple of updates on yesterday's news... The guys running Sector.7 have bought a domain name, www.sector7-halo.com, and will be moving there shortly. (Currently, it's just a placeholder page.) And the editorial by poena.dare on hacking and what it means to the Bungie community has generated a host of interesting comments, including several from Bungie employees. Go read. Get Into Bungie's Pants
Matt Soell asks, is that a roll of nickels in my pocket, or am I just glad to see you? Wait... I think that might be a bit off. In any case, Bungie has a new contest running - go read all the details at Bungie.net. You've got three and a half weeks to come up with what's in Matt's pants... (Louis Wu 09:28:37 UTC)

Last update for a while.
It's been 3 days since I could process Fan Fiction, and the flood continues. I'm going to institute a new policy, for my own sanity: if you submit a piece, and yell about its not being posted before I manage to get it up, I'm tossing it out, and we won't accept any more fiction from you. ALL content creators need to remember that you're not paying ANYTHING to have your work displayed here for the world to see, and sometimes real life gets in the way of updating. I'm tired of being berated for not getting your artwork/fiction/movie posted within 30 minutes of when it hits our inbox. That said, here's the current Fiction collection.

Go read 'em - I'm sure there'll be another dozen by tomorrow. (Sometimes I wish fiction writers would actually take the time to PROOFREAD their work; it seems that some of you are so eager to get your fiction posted that you can't take the few minutes it would take to run it through a spellchecker... it's rather discouraging to kill an entire Sunday morning formatting pieces as rough as some of these are.) Grunts in Supermarkets
After another hellish flying experience, I'm back and safely ensconced in the comfort of HBO Headquarters. There's a boatload of stuff to get to... but it's going to take a little while. In the meantime, Stosh has posted a new Blam comic - I think Stosh might have some... um, issues. But you should go read it anyway. (Louis Wu 15:13:37 UTC)
