Rob McLees interview posted at TandR
Took a bit longer than expected... but the Rob McLees interview is finally up at Bungie.net's Tru7h and Reconciliation site. There's an interesting mix of material - gun stuff, mysticism, and getting set on fire - twice. Rob's focus was on the guns of Halo, since he was responsible for most of them:

Q: What was your favorite gun in halo? Why?

A: The Elite's energy sword. Because it's the only one that behaves like a real weapon - you get hit with it, you die.

Overall, a very good read. Check it out! (Thanks to Lophan for the first heads-up.) (Louis Wu 21:11:55 UTC)

Yes, it's real, Virginia...
Beam Timing Mystery - SOLVED! Jaime Griesemer (aka Flawless Cowboy, Halo level designer) stopped by our forum to explain why there seemed to be a link between the beam timing and motion freeze in areas of Halo you were never supposed to get to in the first place.

Toward the end of the game's development cycle you try to fix problems that arise in ways that will have the least impact, so you don't end up creating more bugs than you fix. It looks like a late change in the vehicle physics for the Warthog, a poorly timed save point (that could trigger just before you were killed, creating an infinite cycle of death) a convenient beam-triggering looping script and a very quick fix have come together and created a brand new online multiplayer game for crazy forum posters.

His post goes on to explain some of the other oddities exploited by Halo fanatics, including the invincible marines on the PoA bridge, and the ability to get into the Shaft. Check it out! (Louis Wu 19:11:49 UTC)

Thanks to foxhound, who sent in Chapter 1 of his work-in-progress, Apollo. Check it out in our Fan Fiction section! (Don't forget to leave him comments...) (Louis Wu 06:05:44 UTC)

Standing Jeep Room Only
Bat 21 and Longstreet also took a Warthog to the Map Room on Silent Cartographer... but when they got there, they played around a bit. Check it out in the Gameplay Tricks section. (The first image throws me a little... are there two jeeps there?) (Louis Wu 00:38:04 UTC)

Stop those Ghosts!
The second part (of four) of dyoung92's 'Halo 2 Story' came in today... nice example of cliffhanger writing. Check it out in our Fan Fiction section. (Louis Wu 16:27:00 UTC)

Knuckle abrasions, definitely
Merciless turned in a set of pics showing the progression of a jeep down below the Silent Cartographer level, to the map room itself. No, it's not the first time it's been done... but it's the first time it's been documented like this. (The images aren't great, but you can tell what's going on.) Check it out in our Gameplay Tricks section! (Louis Wu 11:52:14 UTC)

Legendary Walkthrough of PoA posted
Whoa. No7orious has written a Legendary Walkthrough for the first level of the game, Pillar of Autumn... and Bungie liked it enough that they put it up at their Tru7h and Reconciliation site (along with 25 screenshots illustrating some of the finer points). Very nice! Check it out if you're having your... um, head handed to you on a platter when trying to play through this level on Legendary. (And as Yeroen says in this news item, maybe this will start a trend!) Thanks to Acrappa, of Rampancy.net, for pointing this puppy out. (Louis Wu 01:12:56 UTC)

More vehicle antics
Cal has turned in another series of pics - this time, he's put 4 ghosts and two warthogs upstairs in a Sidewinder base. Pretty pictures (though less useful in multiplay than, say, filling a Blood Gulch base - there's no flag to block up here) - and some interesting physics glitches when a jeep gets stuck in the ladder well. Check it out in our Gameplay Tricks section. (Louis Wu 14:20:13 UTC)

Two bottles of jack and a basket of twinkies
It's Cortana Day at Tru7h and Reconciliation! Bungie has put up new storyboards (for a major Cortana scene), Cortana voice outtakes, and an interview with Jen Taylor, the voice of Cortana! (The interview will show you a glimpse of Matt Soell's odder side... but it will also give you some good info on Jen, the Cinematics team (well, okay, that wasn't so good), and an upcoming movie Jen stars in.) Check it out. (Louis Wu 10:13:01 UTC)

He was a good kid...
Reidbo has put up a small movie called 'Dukes of Halo', based on the intro to the TV series 'Dukes of Hazzard'. Stays true to the original, and has a few nice jeep launches (Bo would be proud). There are two versions - a 320x240 version that weighs in at 6.3 mb, or a 240x180 version that weighs in at 2.3 mb. Check it out - currently, they're available on Reidbo's server, but (as usual) mirrors are appreciated. (Louis Wu 19:09:28 UTC)

Mmmph!
Goodness. Remember those fraternity pranks, where they tried to stuff as many people as possible into a car? TitaniumPez has gone the other way - and stuffed as many vehicles as possible into a small cave on Sidewinder. I'd hate to try coming through that teleporter now... Get a Banshee... fast
Another Gameplay Tip - it's common knowledge that the pair of Banshees on the natural bridge on the Assault on the Control Room level are worth grabbing... but now you have access to a short video showing you what is probably the fastest CONSISTENT way of doing so. (Yes, you can run out there and grab it under the noses of the Elites... but every once in a while, you'll be outrun, and boom, down you go.) Mark Levin has created a Banshee Boost video - check it out on the Gameplay Tricks page of our Tips and Tricks section. (Louis Wu 17:02:38 UTC)
