R.net's forum gets overhauled
Rampancy.net has switched over to the new forum Ferrex has been working on for a couple of weeks. Looks a lot like the old forum, but 1) it's MUCH faster, and 2) it's much more configurable. And 3) (actually the most important, for some of us) it's very searchable. Go check it out! (Louis Wu 10:49:35 UTC)

The start of a regular thing?
MICROSOFT TURNS BUNGIE INTO SWEATSHOP: Oh, wait... that's not right. Matt Soell stopped by R.net's forum this evening (yeah, we know, he's not allowed to do that) and volunteered a bit of info about what's going on behind the scenes. Promises of more info have been made... beware, Matt, your words have been recorded. Go check it out... as he says, "Microsoft Tasta Mo Lika Bungie Spice." (Talk to Matt.) (Louis Wu 01:08:44 UTC)

Halo video Music Clip from Down Under
David, an Australian fan, sent us this note:

This is David from the Australian Music Group Seventh, one of our fans made up a video Music Clip using Halo footage. The song in the clip is "I'm Gonna Fly" we recorded the track ealier in the year with Halo in mind.

The song won the Australian Triple J Unearthed Contest, which groups such as Silver Chair, Savage Garden have won and so on... The track I'm Gonna Fly is free for download from our site as well. If you get time check it out, its pretty cool...

The clip is in RealMedia format, and weighs in at a bit over 20 megs, zipped. The video is an edited version of the E3 movie, and fits surprisingly well with the music. We're hesitant to point out 20 meg download links any more, after what happened to Cannibal Harry, so be careful. If you want to check out the band, their website is here. (Louis Wu 13:07:46 UTC)

Salon looks at the Xbox
Xbox, Xbox über alles... Wagner James Au has written a long rationalization on why the Xbox will succeed next year over at Salon.com. Lots of tasty morsels here... Kevin Bachus points out the difference between the target Xbox gamer and other console targets:

"We're going after an 18-year-old guy away at college for the first time. That's who the Xbox customer is going to be."

This piece is well-written, and while you may not agree with its conclusions, you need to acknowledge that lots of things are being done right here. Check it out! Thanks to Finn Smith for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 18:49:16 UTC)

XboxFaction compares console and pc advantages
For those still confused as to why Bungie programmers (and many others) are so excited about the Xbox, when it seems it's just a box with a bunch of PC parts that will be nowhere near cutting-edge by the time the Xbox is released, XboxFaction has put up a small feature on fixed-spec (console) vs. open-spec (pc) systems. Check it out. Thanks to Blue's News for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 16:58:40 UTC)

Halo-Net Shop opens... but shelves are bare
I'm totally unclear on the concept... but it seems a Halo paraphernalia shop has sprung up. The Halo-Net Shop offers... well, nothing at the moment. But you can read about the shirts, stickers, and info packets (?) it WILL have for sale at some point. Seriously bare-bones site, so even if you (as I) don't get it, you'll be in and out in a matter of minutes. Check it out! (Louis Wu 21:21:32 UTC)

Halo preview at ActionTrip.com
Uros Jojic (IGNPC European Content Editor) sends us word of a new Halo preview at ActionTrip.com. The basis for the preview is the E3 trailer, so the info's not that new... but the perspective is. Here you have a review written by a hardcore gamer who's excited not because Halo looks great or has kickass guns... but because of its story potential. The tide is turning. Check it out! Moviemakers rejoice!
Hugh Hancock points us to a post-E3 report with a different flavor than most... what impressed the folks at Machinima.com most about Halo was its potential for use as a movie-making tool. This has been a topic of interesting discussion on our forum, and others... here's a group that wouldn't normally be interested in Halo, finding the same excitement. While they may or may not have the details right, this comment piqued our curiosity:

...but the announcement of the show as far as I was concerned was that Bungie would be shipping the game with a fully-featured "demo editor". An editor they used to create the gameplay movie shown at E3 itself, no less.

This is news to us... noone else at E3 has reported this fact (although Doug Zartman said in an October chat at World Without Borders that Bungie planned to release tools... but plans can change). In any case, the Machinima.com article is quite a good read... go check it out! (Ding 18:09:43 UTC)

E3 Presskit at R.net

More presskit scans at Halo Network
Halo Network continues to scan in the E3 press kit... today's installment contains pages 14 and 15. These two contain frequently asked questions... nice to see official Bungie answers to some of these, even though we've gotten unofficial answers along the line. Check it out! (Thanks to the Marathon's Story page for the heads-up.) (Louis Wu 14:38:21 UTC)
