Halopen - new design, project preview

Fireteam Bravo Trailer
QuickTactical pointed out a trailer for an upcoming machinima project, 'Fireteam Bravo'. His forum post contains links to a WMP9 version and a streaming YouTube version - and I liked it enough that we're hosting a mirror of the WMP9, as well as a QuickTime version. Paper Spartans - Now DIY!
A bit over a week ago, we posted some pictures of some paper Spartans created by Nomi for her friends in the Halo community. Nomi can't make spartans for everyone - but she CAN show you how to make your own... and, in fact, has done that, with a tutorial and a template you can print out. Check it out! The Brains Behind The Music
The cover article in the latest issue of The Escapist is about the composers behind today's game music, and Marty O'Donnell (and the rest of the Bungie sound team) get a nice nod:
"I think one of the best examples is Marty O'Donnell and the team at Bungie," says Ian Dorsch, who's currently working on a game called Badge of Blood, by independent developer Warpig Studios. "The system they've developed for adaptive soundtracks is just jaw-dropping in its elegance and flexibility, and their work has really set the standard for the entire industry."

Retsof-Noraa stopped by last night to point out a website that takes user-created art (in this case, his renditions of One One Se7en, in the initial post, and a Grunt, in a followup) and animates it in a huge rave scene. Bizarre... but fun. Check it out! (Add your own creations to the thread; it's unlikely we'll put up more front page posts about this, because art phenomenons like this one tend to generate way more interest than we have room for - but if you stick to that thread, you can be sure that anyone who reads this news post will have a chance to see it.) ODST Test

PGL Elites Championship
Jay "Ling Ling" Marrero writes to point out a pair of Halo 2 tourneys sponsored by the PGL at Otronicon v2.0 in Orlando, FL, coming up the weekend of January 13/14. Registration is $15 (with a paid Otronicon entrance), and the first place prize for each event is $1000 (with a bunch of other stuff on the line, as well). Another way into the H3 beta program
The Jedi Lord pointed out a new press release - it'll be all over the web soon, I'd guess, but he found it at Gamerscore Blog - which outlines a pair of ways into the Halo 3 beta program. The first - buying Crackdown - we mentioned last week... but the second - playing 3 hours of Halo 2 online between February 1 and February 3, and then being among the first 13,333 to register at Halo3.com - is new. Check out the full press release, and remember, this one's for US residents 17 or older only. Update: There's a bunch of info from Frankie posted over at Bungie.net right now; lots of goodies in there to supplement the official press release. Check it out! Nyclan gets a writeup
Been a bit lax on newsposting in the last few days - apologies. Will clear some of that up today. Dzejms noticed a Cnet story a couple of days ago devoted to Nyclan, a videogame center in Manhattan - a place you can play a lot of Halo. Check it out - especially if you're close enough to USE it. HaloDev Feature Focus - Normal Mapping
