World Cyber Games - Halo
In December, we mentioned that Halo (xbox) was up for consideration for inclusion in the World Cyber Games 2004. Today, I found that Halo is on the Official Games List for this year's competition. Also, another interesting note, the Final Tournament will be held in the USA (normally, WCG is in Korea). This isn't your everyday, local tournament, either. WCG is a global competition with over $400,000 worth of prizes (they are sponsored by Samsung). Go check it out! (3of9 16:09:46 UTC)

Server log analysis
Saw this last night, accidentally closed the window, forgot to go back. rapture points out a thread on the Gearbox forums about a new fan-written application that parses Halo CE dedicated server logs. It's not all that useful as is - but the potential is enormous. Check it out! (Unfortunately, Gearbox's forums are down at the moment, for upgrades... so you'll need to check back a bit later.) It's an inspiring rags-to-riches tale - well, gassed-canaries-to-loafer-lightener tale, actually - that gives insight into the events that shaped the man who came up with such beautiful music for Halo. Stayin' Alive
NazdaH has sent along word of several movies in the past (here, here, and here) - but we didn't host any of them, and they're all offline now. This is too bad, because they show some pretty decent gameplay. Well, he's sent us a new one, and I thought the sniping was pretty fun to watch. The beginning is a little off... but it gets better. It's 3:24 long, 27 mb large, and available in both Windows Media Player 9 and QuickTime formats from files.bungie.org. Check it out! Why, I Oughtta...
Bungie has put up an article about 'Dirty Halo Tricks' - things you can do to win in Halo that might be on the far side of ethical. I'm really surprised that out-of-map stunts didn't make anyone's list... taking a ghost across the top of Sidewinder and invading the enemy base from above is definitely on MY list of 'sleaziest moves in a game'. Most of the tricks, though, involve sneakiness, rather than exploitation of map glitches. (There's even one from me in there... though I'd argue with the 4-pile rating it got.) My favorite has to be Ryan Hylland's truly annoying way to eke out a few extra seconds on Oddball... check it out. And thanks to Deimos Fawkes for pointing it out. (Louis Wu 14:36:32 UTC)

Dogs Playing Video Game
A few days ago, WhatTheDilly-O mentioned a sighting of Halo in Mad Magazine. (There's your credit, bub.) The Mods Continue
Halomods.com is back up (well done, Grenadiac!), and one of the more impressive new releases comes from BorgScooby; it's a reworking of the central underground area on AotCR, and it's called 'The Chasm'. A lot of thought went into this; you can get a decent sense for the level in the movie in this thread, and you can download the mod itself in this thread (both on the Halomods forum). Check it out! Elite Battles
MasterNeoChief has created a mod called Halo Elite Battles; you play as an Elite, and your job is to wipe out the Human forces. (There's even a destructible Pelican mod.) A trailer can be found in this thread, the mod itself in this one (both at Halomods). If the links don't work, try again later; they seem to be up and down. Check it out... it looks pretty cool!
