MLG Pros to appear at DigitalLife
DigitalLife is a 'consumer technology and entertainment event' (a convention, in other words) that will be taking place this weekend at the Javits Convention Center in New York City. The Xbox360 will be there to play, and several Major League Gamers (LiL Poison, Zyos, and Xena) will be appearing as special guests. If you're in the area - check it out! Thanks, Victor. HaloCE Tags, easier downloads
Last week, we mentioned that someone had extracted - and put up for download - the entire tagset from HaloCE, making it much easier to create new content. However, the download was more than 350 mb, and included a lot of information that some downloaders would never use. Dennis Powers has broken the tagset up into 18 separate, logical archives for easier downloads - you can grab only those pieces you need. Check it out! (While you're there, you can also grab mirrored copies of the latest SvF episode, if you didn't last week - both the WMP9 and QuickTime versions are up there.) (Louis Wu 12:37:13 UTC)

The Squadron Ep 6
Broken Console Productions has posted episode 6 of The Squadron - the fighting heats up. The WMP9 is up now (30.2 mb), the QuickTime should be up soon (29.6 mb). Check it out! (Louis Wu 21:26:36 UTC)

Elnea posted a small sketch yesterday - a Red vs Blue Pirate, of all things. Check it out! (Louis Wu 16:53:25 UTC)

Put you on game
Reinsoft posted another Halo rap (definitely needs the MPAA Explicit Lyrics rating) on our forum last night - 3.4 mb in downloadable form, or you can stream it from his website. Check it out. (Louis Wu 12:44:40 UTC)

Sentient Arts opens
Dan Chosich and Loren Judah, both longtime contributors to the Halo community, have put together Sentient Arts, a website devoted to giving artists a place to display their work. It's not Halo-specific (though I'm sure they'd accept Halo-related material) - but it's pretty slick-looking, and it's definitely a resource that many in this community could make use of. Check it out! Comments can go in this forum thread. (Louis Wu 00:40:51 UTC)

I didn't know Voltron drank coffee...
Bungie's Weekly Update is now posted, and the majority is spent discussing a new playlist coming in a few weeks - it'll be known as Team Hardcore, and it will be significantly more difficult than anything currently on Matchmaking. (Go read the update for full details.) There are also small tidbits about other stuff, and a decided lack of info about Halo 3 (or even the EXISTENCE of Halo 3), and a great Mister-Chief-as-a-baby pic. Check it out! xtina - home to rare Halo vids
Normally, we don't make site notices on our front page - but this one's a bit... unusual (special, I suppose). -Hp-FIL4, from the MLG forums, pointed out that his movie site, xtina, had never been mentioned here at HBO. And he's right. Which is surprising, because the collection of movies available is rather large, and in some cases quite rare. There's lots of gameplay footage, for folks who like to watch that... there are tips vids, and tricks vids, and the first season of Red vs Blue... there are hack videos. Lots of stuff. And the connection's decent, too (though a post like this might actually be a bad thing for that). It's been around for quite a long time - if you've never been there, you should check it out! The Halo Table
David "wlkng nghtmre" Antunes sent in a bunch of pics showing off a table he made last year - the ultimate TV stand, as he puts it. Pretty fun battle scene! Check it out. (Louis Wu 17:21:54 UTC)

Halo Movie Discussion Has a Home
I hesitate to post this, because the LAST new website Bungie touted went offline for bandwidth overages within a few hours... but hey, they're still up now. Halo Movie Online was set up to discuss 'the latest rumors and facts as they come forward' about the Halo movie. (Here's hoping all the 'who do YOU want to see in X role?' threads go there, too...) Check it out! Thanks, Frankie. (Louis Wu 20:35:55 UTC)

Rockets on Prisoner - delayed, but not dead
The Rockets on Prisoner Awards Ceremony has been delayed for a while now - but That Weasel dropped into our forum to point out a Preview video - nothing's been cancelled yet! Check it out. (Louis Wu 15:38:47 UTC)

Even if you're broke...
In the 'what fans are doing' category, Laird, of Sponsors vs Freeloaders, pointed me to an eBay auction in which he's selling a sketch of an SvF character, with all proceeds going to Hurricane Katrina relief. Check it out! (Louis Wu 07:29:09 UTC)

MLG Info Overload
As MLG gears up for Seattle this weekend, you can go read Dyslexia's review of MLG Nashville, held a couple of weeks ago. It's nearly a blow-by-blow of IGS Monglers fight to the top of the heap - check it out! And while we're on the subject of MLG, synide sent us a small (5.3 mb, WMP9 format), heavily-compressed clip of Sundance DiGiovanni on G4's Attack of the Show a couple of days ago - he talks about why MLG is different than its competition, and a bit about how Halo 2 is 'a step back' in competitive gaming. You can grab it from our server. (Louis Wu 13:04:15 UTC)

Mobilizing the Bungie Army
There's a major story up on Bungie.net - ways you can help with the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. First up - the T-shirt we mentioned earlier today. Go read WHY you should buy one (or several - they'll make great presents!). After that, there's a little bit of information for an upcoming charity auction - we'll be working closely with Bungie to sell off some truly amazing fan items, and in the process build up some cash to send south. (Every penny made in the auction will be going to disaster relief - this one isn't even '100% of the profits', this one is '100% - period'.) Finally, there are some comments pulled from a recent thread on Bungie.net about people either directly affected by the disaster, or people doing what they can to help - check it out, get inspired! Katrina relief fund charities list
A followup on yesterday's 'Help Katrina Victims' post - Dennis Powers, of the GearboxGameZone, has compiled a list of charities accepting donations for Hurricane relief from the FEMA website (I'm impressed; I went there and looked around, and the only obvious link was to the Red Cross). Check it out, do what you can. (Yeah, I know. This is a Halo website, not a Katrina one. Sometimes, though, we need to remember that part of being a community is helping out those in distress.) My daughter's named Katrina - coincidence?
Wow - now THAT is cool. There's a news post on Bungie.net's front page, exhorting fans to do what they can to help in the disaster relief effort to clean up after Hurricane Katrina. When was the last time you saw a videogame developer suggest to its fans that helping others in a time of need is a worthwhile endeavor? (It is, by the way - and we'd like to second Bungie's suggestions. I just put my money where my mouth is on the Red Cross donation page... you should think about it, too.) Thanks to Anton P. Nym for noticing. Update: SketchFactor has added a link to a Bungie.net forum thread - he's looking for stories from community members about what they're doing to help. Check it out! Update 2: Knaabi, from 2old2play, pointed out a thread on their forum, where they've got a Paypal link for donating to hurricane relief charities. This might be easier for some of you without credit cards, but with Paypal accounts... (Louis Wu 17:44:27 UTC)

Can't be all bad.
As has been mentioned a few times recently, a lengthy LANfest (6 days now, sort of, and counting) has been going on involving some community regulars. The first real writeup got posted to our forum a little bit ago - Stuntmutt, taking a page from Tolstoy's playbook, wrote a monster of a reminiscence of the trip so far. (I must say, I've been maligned. Possibly justifiably... but maligned nonetheless. Pistols at dawn, sir.) It's a great read, whether you were there or not - it sums up some of the high points of the event really nicely. (Pisses me off - he nailed pretty much every single point I wanted to cover in my OWN writeup. I may just have to admin his post and put my name on it.) Check it out. (Louis Wu 18:04:55 UTC)

Corpseguy's finished helmet
Last month, we mentioned a helmet being created by corpseguy - I noticed today over at HaloPlanet that he's posted a bunch of photos of the finished product. It looks great! Check it out. (Louis Wu 21:30:12 UTC)

Trick This.
Got a trick you want the community to know about? Head on over to High Impact Halo. Yeah, that part has been true since Halo 2 was released, and before... but they've put a new Trick Review System online, and it has the potential to vastly reduce the clutter that keeps some tricks from being noticed, while keeping things organized and easy-to-find. It will also reduce the workload on HIH staff required to identify new tricks, allowing newsposting to happen more easily - which will likely translate to more fun stuff MAKING it to the front page. Inspired by (but in no way based on, codewise - this puppy's completely original to HIH) our Movie Peer Review Rating System, the TRS promises to help tricksters and fans alike - go check it out! I'm not sure if 'snow' is the right modifier...
There's a writeup of a custom gametype called 'Snowball' over at Geezer Gamers; it's a little like Zombies, but not really. The thing that makes it... well, odd is the requirement of teabagging your opponent. (You have to.) It's a funny writeup for a somewhat unique gametype - go check it out! (Thanks again, 3Suns.) A fan map pack review
ST stopped by our forum to point out an article on his blog about the Map Pack. The beautiful thing about the internet is the variety of perspectives... I was reading through his reasons for liking (or not liking) the maps, and I couldn't find a single one I fully agreed with. However, he did a great job of explaining WHY he holds the opinions he does - and it's clear to me that we just have very, very, VERY different playstyles (and likes). Go check it out - and give him your own opinions! (Louis Wu 19:09:24 UTC)

TweakedDev goes a-huntin'
Another piece of Tina Leyk art surfaces - this one was a birthday present for a friend - his furry avatar, clothed in spartan armor. Fun! Check it out on her fan art page. (Louis Wu 02:03:17 UTC)
