The Halo2CE Project - Spotlighted
There is a MASSIVE piece over at Bungie.net about HaloCE, and one of the most ambitious teams out there working with it - SketchFactor sat down for some serious in-depth interviews with the folks behind the Halo2CE project. NiTrOuSoXiDe, Mrs. Doublefire, Farsight, Kornman00, JamesD, Stefander, Kerr Halla, Supreme Taco, ZexGX, and rec0 all talk about how they got started, what they do for the team, and why they're at it. Their two major projects - New Mombasa (a recreation of the E3 2003 level, complete with Halo 2 weapons and armor) and Zanzibar (a near-perfect replica of the Halo 2 level) are out or updated this evening - visit the website to download copies. (They're 25 mb each, and this story is going to get a LOT of reads at B.net... so be patient.) Beyond the interviews, there's a whole chunk of info about Halo CE and what it's all about; longtime readers of this site might not need this recap, but there are plenty of folks who found Halo after Halo 2 was released; a summary of what's out there for the PC is a good thing. Go check it out! (Louis Wu 02:59:20 UTC)

Happy Winter-een-mas, Bungie!

They call it 'sport'...
The 2004 Winter Pentathlon is over... and the writeup has been posted at Bungie.net. A masterpiece of spin, written by Newbies and Middle-schoolers attempting to downplay the TOTAL CARNAGE that was Old-School this year... it's a fun read. Check it out. (I gotta say, though, the Karaoke vid starring Cher O'Donnell is... disturbing.) (Louis Wu 03:36:12 UTC)

One Bag for Two
Dennis Powers writes to point out a new machinima series he's begun - it's called 'The Halo CE Chronicles', and follows a "hapless Spartan stationed to a distant Outpost Station and his relationship with the station's AI." Currently, there are two movies to see - a short trailer, and a 3:49 Episiode 1. The movies are in Flash format, so all you'll need to see them is a browser. Powers does all the voices to date. Check it out! (Louis Wu 21:07:33 UTC)

Foundation Hopping
MrJukes has updated his Jumping Guide again - this time with a 6 minute treatise on Foundation. Some of the tricks are more fun than useful (they require overshield to survive, for example), but man... the guy's got style. Check it out! (Louis Wu 19:26:32 UTC)

Now THAT'S Art.
prometheus has updated his site devoted to Halo Environmental Art, The Halouvre, with new 1600x1200 (and smaller) HUDless Halo 2 screens... and a tutorial on how to make your own. (I gotta say... it looks HARD. Or at least time-consuming.) Check it out! (Louis Wu 17:47:44 UTC)

Weekly What's Update
After taking a week off for Thanksgiving, Frankie is back with another Weekly What's Update, a service in which Bungie answers questions posed by Halo 2 fans during the course of the week. One question asks about non-flaming ninjas - you can create your own using our new Multiplayer Emblem Generator (if you don't like those colors, feel free to change them!) - another declares that the cliffhanger ending of Halo 2 was intentional (which is about as close to an admission that the next Halo is in the works as you're going to get, I think). There are many others - discussion about clipping issues in multiplayer maps, answers about bugs and their fixes, explanations of obscure gaming references. The one thing I didn't see (that I expected to) was a mention of the 'Cable modem standby button cheat' that made the rounds this week; maybe that's coming. A great read - go check it out! The Flood
Last week, David Galindo made a name for himself with three separate videos - one which took you on a tour of some of the prettiest places in Halo 2, a second which looked at your compatriots, the Marines, and a third which showcased the Covenant. He's back with a fourth film - this one looks at the Flood. As usual, fantastic camera angles, nice blending of video and music. It's available in WMP9 format (19.3 mb) from both mythica.org and bungie.org, and QuickTime format (16.3 mb) from mythica.org and bungie.org. Nice work! Update: David's own website is back online, and contains some pretty cool information, including a tutorial on how to make movies like this. Check it out! (Louis Wu 10:58:36 UTC)

Ode to Bungie
Ryan 'Mhaddy' Matthews, over at the Junkyard, has started up the 'Write a Poem for Bungie' contest - well, actually, it starts up on Monday. No Haiku, unfortunately... but pretty much everything else is fair game. Lots o' schwag for prizes. Check it out! (Louis Wu 18:50:38 UTC)

Stats tools look to ROCK - soon.
Whoa. Remember that Flash/Coldfusion contest we mentioned yesterday? The deadline had been today... but it's now extended two weeks, to December 3. One person taking advantage of the extra time is another Macromedia employee (not eligible for any prizes, but dang, I'm looking forward to the final product anyway) - Kevin Hoyt released a screenshot and a featurelist for Halo Reader 1.0, which looks AWESOME. Check it out! (Thanks, Mike.) (Louis Wu 20:19:31 UTC)

Halo 2 Live on haloTV
News is gonna be really light tonight, with a bit of a supplement in the morning - most of tomorrow is going to be news-free. Before signing off, though, there are a few things to point out. First up: haloTV will be sending out a live multiplayer-only broadcast, direct from an Xbox, showing off Halo 2 to anyone not lucky enough to grab their own copy at that hour. Check it out! Artwork from a master
Tina Leyk stopped by last night with another fantastic piece - this one was done with acrylics, on canvas, then scanned. (She's pretty unhappy with the scanwork; the picture, in her opinion, loses a lot in the translation. I'd LOVE to see the original, because the scan is gorgeous.) Check it out! Nice (subtle) Mullins tribute, even. (And stay tuned... there might be more cool artwork on the way today.) (Louis Wu 16:47:26 UTC)

Steve Vai Recording Sessions - on tape
New content at Nilerogers.com - they've put up video recorded during the Steve Vai sessions. Streaming vid (Flash format) - a great look behind the scenes! Check it out. Update: Oops! In my haste to mention the video piece, I neglected the new audio snippet also available - Connected, by Hoobastank. The snippet is 1:20 long, and 1.3 mb large, and sounds very different from everything that's come before it. Go listen (and check out the new mini-screen on the Listening Station Flash page!).
