The old guy's still got stuff left.
Hehe... and the egg-like things continue. Yesterday, Argos noticed that 'Rock Anthem for Saving the World', a high-energy piece from the Halo Soundtrack, was exactly 1:17 long. Not only does that match up nicely with the Master Chief's Spartan II designation... but expressed in seconds, it's got a length of 77. Marty made it clear that this wasn't an accident. The Halo Soundtrack's been out for 8 months now, you'd think someone would have noticed sooner... (Louis Wu 19:37:46 UTC)

Where'd that come from?
Heh - pu1l found a NEW .fortune message (if you don't know what a .fortune message is, check the Easter Eggs page). We like this one. (Louis Wu 10:11:29 UTC)

Go ahead... touch my nose.
Heh - you ever find yourself getting a bit loud at a Halo LAN party? Seems like the Penny Arcade boys did... (Thanks to Ross Mills for the heads-up.) (Louis Wu 17:18:35 UTC)

I can buy a WHAT?
Hehe - Cheerio noticed this item on eBay - hurry, you've got 8 hours left to buy an advance copy of Halo 2. (Of course, you'll pay at least $69.99 for it, and there's absolutely no guarantee you'll get it any faster than you would by going down to your local EB Games... but hey! You can say you were first in line!) Caveat Idiota. (Louis Wu 21:20:05 UTC)

Game of the Year poll
Dang... managed to format this, start posting it, and forget to finish, about 4 hours ago. The BBC has an article on the change in video gaming ('it's not just for breakfast any more' - wait, that's orange juice), and while Halo isn't mentioned in the article itself, it is one of the 5 options for best game of 2002 in the poll included with the article. There doesn't seem to be any way of seeing the results now... but go vote! (Thanks to Andrew Czereyski for the heads-up.) Update: Andrew Katz points out that you can see poll results... but they're not very promising right now. Halo has 22.6% of 6200 votes... trailing Medal of Honour: Frontline and GTA: Vice City. Have YOU voted? Update 2: Deimosœ, of Subnova, noticed that it's a Mac/PC thing... if you vote from a PC, your vote is counted, and you're shown the results. If you vote from a Macintosh, your vote is ignored, and you can't see the results (without following the explicit URL above). I SMELL A FIX! Update 3: hehe - maybe I should actually do some testing first. Turns out it's a browser issue, not a platform one. IE can vote - Mozilla (and its variants) cannot. Still fishy... Update 4: lol - should have kept my mouth shut. Works for all browsers, all platforms. Deimos™ suggests that a Vice City fanboi was cheating, and the BBC page maintainers went overboard on the lockdown at first. Seems quite possible. In any case, go vote, and only vote once. PA plays Halo - and has fun
Heh - the Penny Arcade boys played a bunch of Halo last night... and their attitudes are definitely changing. (Even Gabe - though he hastened to point out that even though he really had fun playing multiplayer, he still thinks the solo campaign is 3 times too long.) Thanks to Skeletor for the heads-up. Blondie ain't got nothin' on MC
Heh - Inky, from Crocodile Bungie, has a dirty Halo disc. It still plays... but he gets some bizarre artifacts. Rather than gripe, though, he squeezed his lemons... and came up with Disco Halo, a 1:33, 9.4 mb film showing some bizarre texture problems. (The Glass MC at the end is AWESOME.) Aside from the flashbacks the music induced, this film is a lot of fun. We've mirrored this at mythica.org, just in case. Update: thanks to Pez, for allowing us to add one more mirror of this flick. Drink away! Drink away!
Heh - Bungie's showing off the newest additions to their merchandise line (hopefully to be available soon in the Bungie Store) - the webcam this afternoon is displaying a Grunt mug. (The black mug behind it is also relatively new - it's the Seventh Column mug.) Thanks to Boss "Wart" Hogg, who first noticed it. (Louis Wu 20:19:03 UTC)

What you DON'T want on your table...
Heh - I had every intention of taking the whole day off... but I came down to check for email from a couple of guests, and I saw this Thanksgiving offering from Doggone. I couldn't pass it up. Enjoy the day, everyone! (Louis Wu 14:59:36 UTC)

The Mod Squad Strikes!
Heh - check this puppy out. You can see some static pics on •M's spnkrghol gallery page - a Myth-to-Aleph One conversion that seems to be taking a side trip or two. (I found the first link in this post on the Marathon's Story page forum.) Bungie fans are great. :) (Louis Wu 18:04:04 UTC)

Audio all around
Heh - Xbox Live is launched officially TOMORROW... and already there's a web page up that shows you how to split the audio signal so that your friend, visiting your house and playing as a guest, can join in the verbal fun. Not sure how happy MS will be about this (they're kinda hoping that the Guest accounts will convince people to buy their own XBL account, since the guests don't get audio, normally)... but all the parts are off-the-shelf (and require no physical modification of any MS-supplied hardware). Radio Shack part numbers are included. Thanks to kiro69, who posted this to the Marty Army Chapter of the 7th Column. Update: Mr. Poke discovered a 3/32" splitter at Radio Shack, obviating the need for a couple of adapters recommended in this article. As for part number 274-948, and you'll save about $6 in extra parts. (Louis Wu 14:10:45 UTC)

PlanetGameCube checks out Xbox Live
Heh - another Xbox Live Bootcamp writeup comes online - this time from Billy, at PlanetGameCube. It's an interesting view of the whole shebang; he picked up on a lot of negative stuff I never even saw, one of the advantages of multiple viewpoints and backgrounds. It's Halo-related only in the fact that some of the pics have Bungie personnel in them. (The picture labeled 'Inside Bungie' shows Chris Butcher giving an impromptu talk on the Halo 2 AI, with Marcus Lehto (seated, all the way in the back) looking on. That's Ed Fries right in front of the big geeky-looking old guy. There's also a shot of Marty that should never, ever have seen the light of day. Thanks to Freewill (and Infininight) for pointing this puppy out. (Yes, the HBO writeup will be up soon. Really.) (Louis Wu 14:36:43 UTC)

Halo for UT 2K3
Hehe - you knew it had to happen. Kayas pointed out a map for Unreal Tournament 2k3 called 'SOT Bloodgulch'. The screenshot shows a bit more... um, scaffolding than I'm used to, but the concept is great. (Louis Wu 20:46:18 UTC)

Screens Bonanza
Recently, Bungie posted the eighth chapter of their Legendary Walkthrough at the Tru7h and Reconciliation site. It included a whole passel of the now-legendary (hehe) Bungie-quality screenshots to illustrate the text. We've added these to our Screenshots database; you'll find the 43 shots shown on that page, plus 9 others that didn't make the cut. Go crazy! (Louis Wu 03:09:28 UTC)

Rockin' Warthog Jump Flick
The October cover disc of the Official UK Xbox Magazine contained a Warthog Jump competition. They solicited innovative warthog jumps from their readers, then rated them on Height, Landing, and Originality. The 18 jumps included in the video ranged from a score of 12/30 up to a pretty impressive 27/30. Even the duds are pretty funny. Yes, the Warthog Jump has been done a bit (hehe), but consider this a swan song to the genre. And the last jump has to be seen to be believed! (Thanks to Griffon for making this video available.) We'd LOVE mirrors - currently, you can find it at mythica.org and the psyjnir.com hotline server. It's 18.5 mb, in QuickTime 5 format. (It's almost 5 minutes long.) Enjoy! Update: Eclarap writes to say that Halo-Game, in France, has put up a mirror for this movie. Thanks, guys! (Louis Wu 20:02:24 UTC)

Football and Halo in Texas
Heh - in an article from the Houston Chronicle's Sports 2 section front page last Sunday, tossed into the middle of a pretty funny discussion of what happens when real-life football players run up against their electronic doppelgangers is a tidbit of Halo goodness.

On the other side of the room, a group of offensive linemen were involved in a four-player game of Halo, the most popular game in the locker room next to Madden. The game involves the deployment of a cyber-enhanced soldier whose mission is to keep a threatening alien race from Earth.

"I can't believe I killed myself," McKinney yells.

"I survived that crash?" guard/center Chad Overhauser says.

The game gained popularity among the Texans during training camp, when tackle Jimmy Herndon and Chad Overhauser brought an X-box to training camp.

Better believe it - athletes know where the REAL competition is. :) (Thanks to Alex "Atoyot" Philips for the heads-up.) (Louis Wu 10:06:46 UTC)

A weekend of editing
Lots of art bits submitted recently. We'll start with the miscellaneous art - there's an airbrushed MC, a Halo box, and an MC with a sword, from XAL, Jack Smith, and Chris, respectively. You'll find these in our Miscellaneous Art section. And then there's a new banner in our Banners section, and two new logos in our Logos section, all courtesy of Michael Frank. Heh - that should clear out the inbox for a few minutes... (Louis Wu 15:11:46 UTC)

I want my grunt plushie, dangit!
Heh - Roger Wilco did a little digging at the US Patent Office; it seems Microsoft was thinking ahead about Halo merchandising. Check out his post for the things covered by their trademarks on the word Halo! (Louis Wu 00:58:26 UTC)

Work or Die posted
Heh - the family edge wins out. A new video has been posted at Blackstar Productions - it's called Work or Die, and is a highlight film of a lanfest held right here at HBO HQ a bit over a week ago. 40 megs, 640x480, 3:43 long... with a pretty funny soundtrack. (A few too many clips of me dying, but such is life. Or something.) If bandwidth gets tight over at BSP, we'll find a mirror or two... but for now, check it out there (and enjoy the site's new layout!). I learned about this from Rampancy.net. No, you a scrub
Heh - head on over to Penny Arcade - looks like Tycho is apologizing for all the nasty things he said about Halo. (Well, actually, just that he's not willing to judge Halo 2 by those nasty things.) Funny strip. Thanks to Zypper for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 16:25:31 UTC)

Master Chief - tomorrow?
Heh - this story has been floating around for a while, but the comic-book-ripoff angle is new for me, and pretty amusing. The US Army solicited proposals for a nanotech suit for the soldier of the future. (The concept art looks vaguely familiar...) If you want to read some background on the project, see this article at the New Scientist. MIT won the grant ($50 million)... but now have a little bit of trouble explaining how a comic book hero ended up in their design proposal. Thanks to Bowser for the heads-up! Guess my weight!
Heh - gotta love it when they write the news for you. :)

The Psyjnir Complex is giving away three Halo Soundtracks to the people who can predict the winner of the Halo National Tournament Finals.

Go to the Psyjnir 7th Column Chapter to enter.

So? What are you waiting for? (Louis Wu 01:48:34 UTC)
