Co-op Love
Speaking of comics, today's guest One One Se7en comes from forum regular hehbo2k3. He looks at the PC coop issue. And what an issue it is. (Louis Wu 04:02:20 UTC)

Gearbox DID add eggs.
First easter egg in Halo PC - confirmed. 'halo fan' sent in this image he captured while using the 'walk on walls' mod. Remember that the designer of Timberland is David Mertz - and his response to this discovery was amusement:

Hehe, it was a matter of time before someone found it, its hard because you have to go really, really high.

They actually are not jumping out of Timberland, Timberland has a really, really high maximum ceiling height so that the player can arc Fuel Rod Gun shots without them hitting the sky box.

I'd never noticed that last tidbit about Timberland... but then, I'm usually using the fuel rod gun to take out warthogs, not shell the enemy base. Good to know! (Louis Wu 10:15:38 UTC)

Blood Gulch mod available
Hehe - didn't take long... the first PC mod has been released; it's a 5.3 mb download, and it's a modified version of Blood Gulch. Some of the vehicles have new skins, and the LAAG fires unlimited rockets. This sort of thing will be much easier once Sapien is released... but it's nice to know that folks are already on the case. Thanks, [[[-X-]]]. (Louis Wu 02:40:17 UTC)

Please leave a beep at the message.
Hehe - bourwa points out that the Red vs Blue crew have created a few quick answering machine messages (Sarge, Donut, Church, and Caboose) that can be used if you're REALLY a die-hard RvB fan. (If you're not... or your callers aren't... these won't make a lot of sense.) They're not listed anywhere except in the thread they were posted in; visit the Sponsors forum, and search for a thread entitled 'Red vs Blue Voice Mail Message'. (Yeah, you have to be a sponsor.) Top 10, Baby! Oh, wait...
Hehe - Gamespy has been running a 'Top 25 Most Overrated Games' feature... and Halo made #10. They felt there were too many problems for it to have received so many near-perfect ratings; they wonder what these reviewers are going to do with Halo PC and Halo 2. Interesting read. They're consistent, at least; they were the first review to score Halo less than 9/10 (they gave them 85/100), and they incurred quite a bit of wrath from Halo fans at the time. This judgement isn't coming out of nowhere. Thanks to Harry Al-Shakarchi for the heads-up on this. (Louis Wu 20:19:42 UTC)

A High Trajectory, Indirect Hit Weapon.
Hehe - once again, Stuntmutt points out the danger of overestimating your weapon in today's One One Se7en. Remember, folks... use the right tool for the job. (Louis Wu 15:37:05 UTC)

Gephyrophobia... or Gastrorophobia?
The third Guest One One Se7en from Germain Couët - hehe, it made me laugh, anyway. (Louis Wu 12:09:22 UTC)

You want fries with that?
Hehe - you can put him in a starship, and give him control of the fate of the human race... but he's still a burger flipper at heart. xbill (gone for oh so many months) comes back with some texture-injected PoA shots. (Louis Wu 11:46:54 UTC)

Don't seem so lonely to me...
Hehe - Gearbox's Projects page lists a total of... one remaining work item for Halo PC. I wonder what it could be (and how long it'll take them to clear it)? Look for the game to go Gold pretty soon now... (Louis Wu 10:08:06 UTC)

Offsite Halo art
A bunch of Halo-related artwork over at Elfwood, including this comic, an interesting concept piece, a grunt, and a spoiler for those still waiting for Halo PC. (hehe) Thanks to Hamid Djangi for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 13:38:05 UTC)

A Dogfight by any other map would fly as sweet
Gearbox has swapped out its dogfight-on-Death-Island screen that was posted this morning with a much wilder (and never seen before) shot of Banshees dogfighting on Gephyrophobia. WAY cool. (Hmm... wonder if the comment I made earlier had anything to do with this...?) Kudos to Fein for noticing. Update: Hehe - rule number one: never let your ego get too big. cartesian over at the Gearbox forums noted that the two Banshees in the first shot were on the same team... a far better reason to swap the pic out. (Louis Wu 00:06:41 UTC)

Hehe... Hamid Djangi points out a Suzuki concept car that sort of resembles... a Grunt? Bizarre. (Louis Wu 09:05:12 UTC)

Just takin' her out for a spin...
Hehe - what happens when you swap the wartog model for a pelican one, instead? You give Foehammer a smoke break. (The 4.1 mb QT movie is mirrored by Break Point, as well, if c0ld's bandwidth is running low...) It's pretty funny how the marines don't like it much... (Louis Wu 10:04:09 UTC)

Forum Fanstock writeup moves to PC IGN
Hehe - almost didn't notice... firestorm225's Fanstock writeup has gotten a new, more prominent home; it's now an official IGN PC article. (As of this writing, it's not Insider-only.) Take a look! (Louis Wu 02:04:53 UTC)

People who fly in glass Longswords...
Hehe... folks have always wondered what's under the MC's helmet; the final cutscene shows him removing it just before the camera moves out of range of the window, tantalizing you but not actually showing you anything. c0ld vengeance and BOLL teamed up to build you some X-Ray Glasses... and it's pretty surprising what you find. (Louis Wu 04:00:30 UTC)

Hogs... WHERE?
Well, he can't drive to save his life, but he's a pretty dang good hacker... Pfhorslayer has made a small (2.2 mb, QT) movie showing warthogs on Hang 'em High. We've put up a local copy of it, because his bandwidth won't hold out. A novelty item for sure! Update: Macegac has provided a mirror, as well. (Louis Wu 22:04:23 UTC)

Aural Overload
Massive updates at Bungie.net today. (Yeah, yeah, you all know about it already - that's what happens when I'm away from the keyboard for 6 hours on a Friday afternoon.) Lessee if I can get all of it into one post:

  • Part III of the Making of E3 demo article has gone up; Sketchfactor interviewed Marty O'Donnell and Jay Weinstein about the cool sounds you hear in the demo. Awesome behind-the-scenes info... must-read. (Fantabulous artwork, too.)
  • A new Halo Voice Dialog Archive has come online. Because they know we'll beat 'em into the ground with quantity, they cheated and added a bunch of clips you can't even TRIGGER in the game. (Just kidding - it's all good. Awesome stuff, and in a few days, when they're not looking, we'll add these to our Dialogue Databank.)
  • Halo 2 voice outtakes; things that never, ever had a chance of making it into a game, but are fall-down funny...
  • The Halo manual, in PDF format, has been added to the FAQ/Info section. (Hehe - yah, it's been available at xbox.com since November 2001... but you know Bungie.)

Rockin' stuff. Go grab it all. (Well, maybe not the manual.) (Louis Wu 02:10:29 UTC)

MC Goes XL.
Hehe - you knew this would happen, didn't you? Today's One One Se7en shows pretty clearly why the MC needs to get his sorry self back out on the battlefield... pronto. I blame Jason. (Louis Wu 16:51:31 UTC)

MJOLNIR. Now With Headlamps.
And here's a comic from a site that IS work-safe, for the most part - Friday's installment of One One Se7en. Hehe - now that I think about it, even THIS one is sex-related. Dang. (Louis Wu 02:56:22 UTC)

Help wanted - no, NEEDED
Hehe - there's a Help Wanted notice up over at Bungie.net; they want someone who can help build the next iteration of Bungie.net. Ironically, the link to the Jobs page doesn't work... because the Web Developer description isn't up yet. Guess they need a web developer to post it, so that... hmm. Anyway, if you're interested, visit the Jobs page; I'm sure there'll be something there soon. (Louis Wu 02:27:34 UTC)
