Arnie to buy 50 Warthog-humvees
Hehe - a LAN party site wrote up a list of predictions about what would happen after Halo 2 is released. It's pretty funny. Thanks to The Friendly Greek for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 10:10:12 UTC)

Awards, awards...
Last January, Xbox.com put together their Hall of Fame, in which all major awards for Xbox products are listed in one place. (I never noticed it before; thanks to CuBaNo for the heads-up.) Halo DOMINATES the page. Heh. (Louis Wu 12:34:37 UTC)

Get Joyride to build him!
Hehe - BOLL has put out yet another enjoyable Halo-inspired creation. It was for an intro course in animation... the main character may not LOOK familiar, but he sure SOUNDS familiar. (2 mb, QuickTime format) I love this guy! (Louis Wu 18:34:13 UTC)

The Treachery of Bits
Hehe - we almost forgot to mention... several hours before WE came back online, another casualty of digital corruption, Subnova, came back up, sporting a database that's two months old. It must have gone through the Blue Base Teleporter... (Louis Wu 21:13:55 UTC)

This Egg's for You
Hehe - pretty cool... come up with a cool phrase or quote, and it might make it into Halo 2 as an easter egg. Want the details on this fun little contest? Go read the news story at Bungie.net. Thanks to PanZer for the heads-up on our forum. (Louis Wu 03:36:32 UTC)

Whoa - ten levels?
Got a TI 83 (or better) calculator? Then check out this game in the TI games archives - hehbo2k3, who pointed it out on our forum, says it's a pretty fun game. (Unfortunately, it won't run on my trusty HP 28S, so I can't tell you what it looks like.) Update: Griffon points out a couple of screenshots; one from the original version, one from the new. Check 'em out. (Scroll down to 'First Halo83.5 Screens!') (Louis Wu 09:09:46 UTC)

Spread the Love
To show his appreciation for the astounding goodness that is the Halo 2 spread in the Official Xbox Magazine this month, bikeman704 triggered the Megg... and added a bit. Cool. (Hehe... he's still got four bullets left...) (Louis Wu 21:32:32 UTC)

Chupa-thingy at E3.

E3 is just 2 weeks away and as it gets closer so does the Bungie Fanfest. As is the tradition from previous fanfests, there are going to be exclusives that only folks that attend the event will get to experience. Hey, Bungie has to reward those of you that are traveling far (some from Italy!) just to sniff Chucky's sleeve.

SketchFactor has already announced that a surprise mystery guest will attend. Who do you think it is? Speculation is running rampant. heh :)

But on to today's new announcement: It is Bungie's great honor to welcome the guys behind the RedvsBlue videos. Not only will they be around to sign your girlfriend's breast, but DVD-quality versions of their videos will be playing on the big screen! And here's the kicker: They are working on a special video just for the fanfest. The premise for this "Special E3 Video" is so funny that even the folks at Bungie can't wait to see it!

This is truly shaping up to be the Fanfest to beat all Fanfests. How will Bungie top it next year? One can only wonder, but I'm bringing my galoshes.

Hehe... those guys can FLY
Another movie for ya - Fight or Flight, from Dancing Grunt Productions. 4:30 long, this movie is full of fun little snippets, mostly from single player or coop. From it, you can see stuff like coordinated marine rolls, cheating death by using vehicles, and some nicely timed warthog tosses (one into a blue beam - it's tossed right back). It weighs in at 20.9 mb, and is hosted by mythica.org, with a backup on the Psyjnir Complex Hotline server. (More folks should take advantage of this resource - transfer rates are high, and the collection of movies is enormous.) Enjoy! (Louis Wu 00:00:13 UTC)

Warthog Jousting - on the beaches of today!
Hehe - Dark Helmet found a real-life Warthog (made by Peugeot) on the Xbox.com forums. It's pretty slick-looking! (Okay, it'll probably cost too much to make Warthog Jousting feasible... but it's still a nice dream.) (Louis Wu 23:45:28 UTC)

More Web Comics (old ones this time)
Hehe - Cybrfrk found a pair of web comics from last year that everyone here seems to have missed. Check out TrueNuff for January 9, 2002, followed by January 11, 2002. Now THERES a Halo fan. :) (Louis Wu 16:35:01 UTC)

War, the Stock Market... and Halo 2
Wow. The 'Not in 2003' news on Halo 2 is big enough to be reported by Reuters. Now that's impressive for a videogame release date status update... (Thanks to mnemesis for the heads-up.) Update: Griffon points out that it made the BBC news, as well. When was the last time you saw this sort of coverage for a videogame development status update? Update 2: Hehe - just to be complete, poena.dare (whose day it is not) has compiled a sizeable list of news sites that have grabbed this story. Wonga. (Louis Wu 13:20:50 UTC)

Hehe... BOLL is building a new desktop, and needs help with a caption. Do your stuff. Update: Looks like BOLL changed his mind - he doesn't want captions. (The pic is still worth looking at, though...) (Louis Wu 10:45:47 UTC)

You gotta be quick...
Hehe - Cybrfrk has been capturing Bungie webcam images automatically, and this morning, it paid off. Apparently, someone put an MC action figure in the picture for ONE FRAME - Cybrfrk noticed it while reviewing recent captures. You can find details (and the frame) on his site, linked from his forum post. (Louis Wu 19:02:38 UTC)

More short notice - big money
Hehe - speaking of late notice... Jacob McCarthy writes to point out the 2003 Northwest Regional Festival and Tournament, sponsored by the International Video Gaming Federation. Online registration is closed... but On-Site registration will be available on Saturday morning. The event covers a bunch of games, but the Halo portion has a $50 entrance fee, and a first-place prize of $8000. Gameplay rules are rather bizarre (first to 30 kills? How are they going to judge that?), but hey, the money's good. It's a two-day event (Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 2), and 'Come and Watch' passes are available for purchase as well. This will take place in Bellevue, Washington - more details are available on IVGF's website. (Louis Wu 17:52:09 UTC)

Book details emerge
More information about Halo Novel #2 at Ballantine:

The Human-Covenant War, a desperate struggle for humankind's very survival, has reached its boiling point on the mysterious, ring world called Halo. But the fierce Covenant warriors, the mightiest alien military force known, are not the only peril lying in wait.

As the fortress world of Reach and its brave defenders were bombarded to rubble, a single cruiser fled the carnage with the battle's only human survivors-Captain Keyes, his crew of a few hundred Marines, and the last remaining SPARTAN super-soldier, the Master Chief.

With the cruiser's artificial intelligence, Cortana, concealed in his battle armor, the Master Chief crash lands on Halo in the midst of a massive Covenant occupation. Curiously, the alien soldiers appear to be searching for something hidden on the ring. Built by a long-dead race, Halo harbors many deadly secrets, but one overshadows them all. Now the Master Chief must lead the scattered troops in a brutal race to unravel Halo's darkest mystery-and unleash its greatest source of power. . . .

Heh - one of the topics that's come up a lot recently on our forum is whether the Forerunners are actually gone or not - this text suggests they are, but is it just random copy written by someone who doesn't look as closely at the story as some of our visitors? (Thanks to Aaron Charles for noticing the new copy.) (Louis Wu 13:52:43 UTC)

Not Just Fighting Foos
Heh - disappointed with the 'NSync-related Halo sighting we posted a month ago, Brandon Thomas pointed out that Dave Grohl, guitarist for the Foo Fighters, puts Halo on the shortlist of hobbies (up there with skeet shooting and speeding in residential areas). That's a pretty wide swath of the popular music spectrum playin' Halo! Update: Jester reminds us that the latest Foo Fighters album (One By One) actually has a song called 'Halo' on it.
