Overkill Extermination Mongoose Mowdown
thehomeland ran across someone bragging that they'd gotten an extermination with a mongoose; he didn't believe it, but the film is still in gizmo777's fileshare. (It's slot 1, labeled "WTF!!!") thehomeland decided to make it more accessible to those without access to the film, so you can watch it on YouTube, or you can download higher-quality versions from us (WMP9 or QuickTime, both a bit under 15 mb). Pretty nice! (Louis Wu 17:19:08 UTC)

Marty O'Donnell - Style Setter
The UK's Times newspaper has a bit in its online News in Brief this morning about Universal Music that caught my eye:

Universal Music, the record company whose artists include Amy Winehouse and Eminem, is advertising for monks to record an album of chants after the popularity of the Halo computer game. Dickon Stainer, from Universal, said: "It's going to be a challenge. You can't open Yellow Pages and call a monastery."

Heh. (Louis Wu 13:59:32 UTC)

(Re)spawning your life away
Heh - a couple of guys worked out a script that calculates the amount of time you spend waiting to respawn in multiplayer, assuming an average 5 second respawn. Gives you pause... Thanks, BuckHijo. (Louis Wu 20:07:05 UTC)

Next game - Invisible Pistols on Sandtrap
This week's Halo Humpday Challenge was against the SBG clan - and it shows how flexible Halo 3 really is. The first game was a straight slayer game... and Bungie got DEMOLISHED. Pummeled. Beaten into the ground. Crushed like grapes in a winemaking machine. How did they come back? Heh - they used a technique we here at HBO approve of fully - whacky gametypes! Game two was called 'Nades and Spades' - you only got points for grenade sticks or beatdowns. SBG almost won this one, too... but not quite. Game 3 was a special Bungie variation on Sandtrap with lots of big vehicles... and again, knowing the terrain was more than half the battle. Bungie bottled 'em up and kept them from using their far-superior shooting skills. Final tally - Bungie wins, 2-1. Go read. (Louis Wu 22:35:41 UTC)

Tiberium trailer - homage, or just laziness?
Heh - Kotaku thinks that EA's Tiberium trailer takes more than a little inspiration from the Halo 2 Announcement Trailer (yeah, the August 2002 one). Decide for yourself! (Louis Wu 14:59:30 UTC)

Black is the new Grey
Heh - Bungie hasn't had a 'Black' option in your armor customization choices since Halo - but there IS a 'black' option in the 'Force Colors' team options for multiplayer games. So Gravemind took advantage of it to create a Halo 3 Spec Ops Elite. Nice! (Louis Wu 15:18:21 UTC)

Working for the Man
Almost certainly not Halo news (heh), but Psychophan7 noticed a bunch of new job openings on Bungie's website. Are you good enough? (Louis Wu 16:45:33 UTC)

Brighten up your morning
Heh - TruToast created an Ode to the Sword, and Terrab let the Bungie.net forums know about it. Cute. Thanks, InAmb3rClad. (Louis Wu 14:37:45 UTC)

Wow, they must all be Level 60
Heh - Kotaku.au got hold of a screen from Halo 3 matchmaking that suggests that the algorithm that counts online players might have... some problems. (Remember that Xbox LIVE just passed 8 million total subscribers a few weeks ago.) (Louis Wu 19:47:03 UTC)

New art from Bryn Casey
Bryn 'ofthehi77' Casey let us know that he'd created four new Halo images - we've added them to his Gallery section here. Check out Arbiter, Sierra117, Tunnel, and Feet First into Hell. Wow - these would look wonderful on your wall! (Louis Wu 11:49:41 UTC)

The Fine Art of Suiciding
Heh - this is pretty cool; Evlmidget25 built a Foundry map in which he and a plasma grenade start at the same point, take entirely different paths, and end at the same point. It's a pretty complicated suicide. Check it out! (Louis Wu 12:10:49 UTC)

The Ghost of Foundry
Heh - unlucky17 was forging away, when suddenly he was attacked - by a totally random grenade. Thrown by nobody. Pretty funky! Thanks, Morpheus. (Louis Wu 16:31:31 UTC)

Forge Maps db opens at R.net
Heh - yesterday, I mentioned that the community could really use a searchable database for Forge creations - and today, Rampancy.net opened a Forge maps database. You can browse/search/download maps without logging in, but you'll need to have an account to submit them. (They need to know who they belong to, after all.) Ask, and ye shall receive! Psst... buy your NYC VGL tix early
Hmm... not totally sure about this, but... cannon1iron let us know that tickets for a New York City performance of Video Games Live next April go on sale tomorrow, officially... but you can get in on an internet presale by using the password HEHALO on this page. I checked, and there are some great seats available! (Well, right NOW.) Beat the rush - prebuy now. Update: Mig has an opinion you might want to read. (Louis Wu 16:10:49 UTC)

Foundry Sketchpad
Ooh, cool. Bungie's posted a Foundry Sketchpad - a PDF of the level, with some blocks for scale. You can sketch out your ideas while you're at work/school, so as not to waste your non-Forging time. Heh. Thanks, Avateur. (Louis Wu 22:21:13 UTC)

Foundry Shenanigans
Heh - #Butcher has attempted to recreate Midship, using Foundry. Color scheme's all wrong, and the edges aren't rounded... but it looks like he did a pretty good job! (For those without a sense of irony, my criticisms are in jest.) Grab a copy and check it for yourself. (Louis Wu 20:13:05 UTC)

A pain in your...
Heh - Rubbish Pixels has an article on the biggest annoyances (that's not the word they use) in the video game universe - 343 Guilty Spark makes the list. I won't disagree! Thanks, Usul. (Louis Wu 12:09:20 UTC)

What will you put on your tombst- erm, tree?
Heh - I'm guessing there'll be a lot of Christmas trees this year which have a Legendary helmet on top, in place of a star or an angel. We've already had word of a pair of them - S Assassin sent us pics of his tree, and Ross Mills found one on Digg. (Louis Wu 12:55:05 UTC)

An even easier way to do Tsavo.
A week or so ago, we posted a tip for getting through one of the tougher areas of Tsavo Highway - it involved bringing a Warthog across the broken highway, and required a gravity lift to work properly. Today, YaYap the Great sent us a trick that gets you a Chopper in the same area - with no grav lift. You can download the film from his FileShare (it's called 'Tsavo Highway')... or you can just watch a short flick, showing you the trick. We've encoded both QuickTime (8.4 mb) and WMP9 (9.4 mb) versions - grab the one that works best for you. Update: Heh - looks like goatrope did this with a Warthog, too. (I'm not really sure how; I've never had a gap that big when I played, but... I'm not goatrope.) And so did Simpsons Rule and Psychophan7. Thanks, Cody Miller. (Louis Wu 18:36:27 UTC)

Zen-like Simplicity
A column known as The Unreasonable Stance (not without reason) has taken the position that Pac-Man beats Halo in every gaming category. Heh. Thanks, Anton P. Nym. (Louis Wu 11:36:45 UTC)

A pretty elaborate suicide
Heh - Ice V spent considerable effort setting up a Rube Goldberg-style suicide on The Pit; the saved film doesn't seem to be available, but the YouTube version's still pretty cool. There's a forum thread started by a friend of his at Bungie.net, for comments - thanks, InAmb3rClad. (Louis Wu 15:33:23 UTC)

Are you spoiled?
Heh - fun editorial over at FileFront - has Halo 3 spoiled you for other games? (It's not just about the gameplay... it's about the options.) (Louis Wu 11:40:52 UTC)
