Mjolnir Mix downloadable for Guitar Hero II?
Wow. The hot rumor of the morning seems to be that the upcoming Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II will have Halo's 'Mjolnir Mix' as a downloadable song later this spring. Coffin Joe saw it last night at Xbox360Fanboy, but today you can find it at CVG, Xboxic, XBOX 360 Wire, MyGen, GamingNexus, OXM UK (thanks, Onebitrocket), TeamXbox - and almost certainly your favorite gaming news outlet. No word on whether it's TRUE, though... (Louis Wu 15:21:33 UTC)

Jungle Trigonometry 4
sodaGoD's Jungle Trigonometry 4 was released today, and I must say... it's some bizarre filmmaking. That's not to say it's bad - because it's far, far, FAR from bad. It's great, in fact. Just bizarre. Tiny Feet, for example... wow. Just... wow. The Frenchman... I loved it. Kraken... that rocked. In fact, the whole thing rocks. As always, fantastic effects. Great use of mods. Great voices. I was sure... yes I was. You can visit the official thread on the Machine Enema forum, or you can just grab a copy from us, in WMP9 format (112 mb) or QuickTime format (117 mb). Update: trigger119 points out that GamingTV has local mirrors (including a self-encoded H.264 QuickTime). (Louis Wu 02:50:37 UTC)

Every Figure Ever Made - Now For Sale
Wow. cctobias41886 stopped by our forum to let people know that 1) he has a collection of every single Halo and Halo 2 action figure ever made by Joyride... and 2) he's selling it. If you're interested, send him email (his email is in the forum post) before he posts it up on eBay. Wow. That's gotta be a big collection! (Louis Wu 02:13:26 UTC)

Machines of War, Episode 1
Wow. We got word from SodaGod that he'd released the first episode of a new machinima series, Machines of War. It is the story of Spartan 104, cursed to survive when his comrades do not. This was filmed in Halo 2 Campaign, and the imagery is spectacular; he does an astounding job of getting the perfect shot for the moment. 9:25 long, 77.6 mb in WMP9 format, 78.7 mb in QuickTime format. Absolutely worth a download. Update: trigger119 lets us know that GamingTV is mirroring the WMP9, and has encoded their own h.264 QuickTime (54.7 mb). Great filesize - but be warned, it's pretty processor-intensive; it stutters badly on my dual 2GHz G5. If your processor is beefy, it's probably great. (Louis Wu 15:51:30 UTC)

Perky As A Dew-Kissed Kitten
The Bungie Weekly Update is available now at Bungie.net - tasty news about Jen Taylor, plus new weapon details, multiplayer tidbits, AudioBooks, and upcoming playlist info. And a really, really, really bad t-shirt idea. Thanks to goatrope, on IRC, for the heads-up. (Even if he DOES play far too much WoW.) As usual, there's a forum thread in which to discuss this, and a local version if you'd rather read it here. (Louis Wu 01:18:39 UTC)

From Bears to Bullets... to eBay
Wow... remember the bear suit guy who made a Mjolnir-like suit for soldiers? Looks like nobody wanted to buy it from him - so he's selling it on eBay. Bit over a week left, current bid is $5100 US (reserve is not yet met). Ouch! Thanks to Planet Halo for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 15:37:53 UTC)

When Game Journalists Get Silly
Wow. I'm not sure what to say about this editorial at IGN - it basically says "Bungie better make sure the beta is PERFECT, or it will derail the Halo 3 Hype Machine (™®©) and kill the entire game." Yeah, whatever. Thanks, I guess, to AfroRyan, who noticed it. (Louis Wu 14:53:04 UTC)

The Heretic Action Trailer
Sbear sent word that the Heretic Action Trailer has been released - this is the second of two trailers released for an upcoming series from Edgeworks Entertainment. This one should pump you up... and you don't have to wait long for start of the actual series - release date looks to be [censored]. Update: Wow. I was told that I was ruining the surprise release date by posting it here - because the page we linked to (see above) I guess was more subtle. I've removed the date. You'll have to go elsewhere for it. (Louis Wu 23:25:17 UTC)

Last year called... it wants its update back.
Wow. Is it 2007 already? If you're just waking up from a dream about gods bowling, and you're wondering what happened in the Halo universe since 2005... check out the new top story at Bungie.net. KP's laid down all the important happenings for 2006. Well, except for all my eBay purchases - where are those, I ask you? Go read. (Louis Wu 19:59:37 UTC)

MLG vs WSVG - Pros in the middle
Wow. Remember last week, when the World Series of Video Games announced that they'd made a deal with CBS Sports to broadcast Halo 2 gaming on the network? Yeah, well... the WSVG finals are this weekend, and four top MLG teams were supposed to be competing. All sorts of conditions had already been agreed to (they will be wearing MLG shirts during the tourney, and their gamertags will all be prefaced with 'MLG')... but things got ugly when the WSVG asked the players to sign a release allowing footage of them playing to be broadcast at a later date. (Read GotFrag's take, or Amped's take.) MLG told them not to do it, and for a little while, it looked like the MLG players might be locked out of the tournament. The GotFrag article has an update that suggests the two sides have come to an agreement... but it's interesting to read the player reactions in the Amped article; many of the mid-level players feel betrayed by MLG for daring to make money in a different venue, while the top players seem to think it's WSVG that's pulling something shifty. We'll see how it actually plays out, later today... (Louis Wu 12:06:14 UTC)

Halo3.com is live - sort of
The Halo3.com website works - if you're on a PC, using Internet Explorer. If you're using anything else, you might have trouble - you can try this URL instead (thanks, TehCubed). There's not much there yet - but that's where info about the beta in the US will show up, we assume. Looks like SolarStance was first on our forum to notice. Update: It's fully live now - if Halo3.com doesn't work for you, use this link. US and Canada only, sorry. Update 2: Wow. It seems a direct link to the .SWF worked for a little while... but it doesn't work any more. (At least, that seems to be the consensus of those posting about it.) If you're willing to bypass the page that describes the requirements for this signup (access to a 360, an XBL Gold account, and a Passport account, as well as a minimum age requirement of 18), you can go to this page - it seems to work for everyone. Again - US and Canada only. (Louis Wu 17:46:50 UTC)

Immortalized in Halo 3... You.
Wow. Every year, Penny Arcade's Gabe and Tycho host a Charity Auction Dinner for Child's Play, a charity they began a few years ago to get games to kids in hospitals. This year's auction is December 13th, and today Gabe posted a list of some of the goodies you'll be able to bid on during the event. On the list:

A tour of Bungie and a line of dialogue in Halo 3.

Yep - you'll get to hang out at Bungie's offices... and you'll have a line of dialogue recorded and included in Halo 3. Thanks to MinkOWar for the heads-up. Update: Oops, looks like Bagre let us know first, via email - my bad! (Louis Wu 20:42:48 UTC)

New screens... a bit early
Wow... seems like every time there's a big coordinated content release, and European gaming sites are in on it, stuff gets leaked before the official release date. It's out there now - so you might as well check it out. Be aware, though, that this material was distributed to LOTS of gaming sites, all at the same time - and the ones that aren't showing it to you are following the rules. (Won't matter much soon - Bungie will likely put up official versions on their site asap, since it's already out there... but you gotta wonder, why is it just the European sites breaking embargo every time?) The screens originally showed up on the Swiss site GameCity, and have been picked up by Halo Base, in Germany - who've got things nicely organized into screenshots, renders, and concept art . Update: Halo Base has pulled down their mirrors until the screens are officially released. (Louis Wu 20:20:01 UTC)

Halo Movie Postponed
Wow. Looks like the Halo movie is on hold at this point. A press release (quoted by both Ain't It Cool News and the Halo The Movie blog, though not, apparently, available on the web anywhere) from Peter Jackson and Wingnut Interactive states that they've agreed to "postpone making a feature film based on the Halo video game universe until we can fulfill the promise we made to millions of Halo fans throughout the world that we would settle for no less than bringing a first class film to the big screen." This is not a cancellation of the project - but it does put a kink in a 2008 air date, that's for sure. Check both sites above for more details. (Louis Wu 13:37:39 UTC)

Original HGN artwork - for sale on eBay?
Wow. I have no idea about the background of this seller, or whether this is normal for this industry - but it seems like a pretty awesome opportunity for the right collector. BARBARIC_RAGE noticed an eBay auction, ending tomorrow night, for what purports to be a page of the original Simon Bisley artwork used in the Halo Graphic Novel. Gorgeous! If we get more info on this, we'll pass it along. (Louis Wu 22:09:25 UTC)

Elite vs Elite Eps 1, 2, 3
Wow. eternalscrappy submitted three short films to the MPRRS yesterday - Elite vs Elite 1, 2, and 3 - and all 3 passed, in short order. They're in the style of Spy vs Spy (if you grew up reading Mad Magazine), and they're pretty funny. Short and sweet - if they're not your style, we didn't waste much of your time. You can grab each episode in either QuickTime or WMP9 format - your call.

Ep 1 WMP9 (14.3 mb) | QT (13.8 mb)
Ep 2 WMP9 (12.9 mb) | QT (12.5 mb)
Ep 3 WMP9 (12.6 mb) | QT (11.4 mb)

Them Joyride Guys... They're Serious.
Wow. Stephen Loftus has been known for a while as someone who goes to great lengths to measure the Bungie Haloverse. Recently, he sent two images to be attached to his Scale Comparison article (a UNSC Weaponry Scale Chart and a Covenant Weaponry Scale Chart - these are both recreations of existing images, but with a twist; he's photographed all the accessories that come with the Halo Action Figures. I'm telling you... for toys, it's amazing how much effort went into making sure they were to the proper scale! Check these out. (Louis Wu 15:30:52 UTC)

Universal, Fox Pull out of Halo Movie Deal
Wow. Big news this morning involves the Halo movie - looks like Universal and Fox have both pulled out of the deal, citing fears of ballooning costs, and an unwillingness on Microsoft's part to budge on the existing deal. According to Variety, where I read this story (thanks, runnersdialzero), this doesn't spell the end of the project; work continues at Weta Digital while new distribution partners are courted. There are similar stories at Cinema Blend, CanMag, Joystiq, and Voodoo Extreme (thanks, Rampancy.net) with differing takes on the situation. The Halo Movie blog has put together a bunch of links including video footage of Jackson discussing this on NZ television, as well. As more details become public, we'll let you know! Wow. Rooster Teeth has released Episode 80 of Red vs Blue, 'Baby Steps', WAY early (by their normal timeframe) - sponsors can grab a copy right now. They seem to have fixed the Video Archive issue, as well... thanks, KP. (Louis Wu 20:03:37 UTC)

When Artists Want to Mess With Your Head
Wow. Bungie fans are nuts. Omega was scanning over some hi-res promo pics, pixel-by-pixel, it seems, when he ran across a Marathon logo tucked into a corner of the Halo 3 Assault Rifle. On an image that's almost 2500 pixels tall, the logo takes up a square that's 18x18 pixels... meaning that on a 720p screen, that puppy would be all of 5 pixels on a side, and on a (far more standard) 480p screen, you're looking at 3 or 4 pixels on a side. Absolutely, totally invisible in-game... but CLEARLY there. (I redid his picture, and made the reference file available, for anyone who wants to look for themselves.) I'd call this an honest-to-goodness egg... nice find! (Louis Wu 11:18:37 UTC)

Halo: Mobile Portal Code - Cracked
Wow. So the letters on the news page (I'll be yanking them soon, so look now) were noticed by two separate groups within 60 seconds of going live. (Probably more - but c0ld vengeance mentioned them in IRC's #hbo channel, and Pratch sent mail about them; nobody else pointed them out to ME.) c0ld started a thread on the forum, which got a lot of decent speculation... and then on irc, Decommissioner (with a little spelling help from Konrad) nailed it down - half an hour after it went live. The hive mind works well! The Portal code, for those who can find the Vault on their Verizon phone, is 'GRAVEMIND' - courtesy of IN-FUSIO and the HBO community. Enjoy! (Louis Wu 17:12:34 UTC)

Halo Wars and Wingnut - Details
Wow. Tons more info on Halo Wars and the new Peter Jackson project is now available at Bungie.net - go read! (There was an amazing trailer shown at the end of the X06 press conference, of Halo Wars - this should almost certainly be available for download soon, from Halowars.com.) Update: It's up now - in three resolutions. GO DOWNLOAD! (Louis Wu 18:19:02 UTC)

Halo Sucks.
Wow. Ferrago has a story about online gaming, and mostly, it's just a screed about how crappy Halo 2 multiplayer is, how many problems it has, and how silly Bungie is for not having figured out how to fix those problems yet. (They also blame some of the problems on the "lack of an established and mature fanbase". Face it - you guys suck.) Wow, I guess Bungie wishes it were more like Team Ninja - since they (according to Ferrago) got multiplayer right, with DOA4. I'm trying to figure out what might have happened to the author to generate so much hate... (Louis Wu 11:54:01 UTC)
