Team Carnage - more popular than you might think
Wow. Ninja 0n Fire posted stats for the various playlists on XBL as of today... and Team Carnage is nearly tied with Team Snipers in number of games played. Read the whole list in his forum post on Bungie.net, or in KP's on our forum. (Louis Wu 20:02:54 UTC)

Girls are more fun.
Wow. There's an article at AOL Games called 'Men are from Mars, Women are from Halo' - it's about a male staffer taking on three members of the PMS clan (yes, all female), in various games. Despite the piece's title, Halo was NOT one of the three games. (Yes, I know that this makes the Halo link pretty tenuous... I'm posting this because the whole article amazes me.) He plays three different girls, in three different games... and he's paying more attention to their shampoo types than to their gaming skillz. The article is ostensibly about how men don't need to be chauvinistic about women gamers any more... and it's being written by an astounding chauvinist. Irony abounds. Thanks, Redstevo. Halo Director Announced
Wow... according to Xbox.com, a director has been chosen for the Halo movie... and it's a newcomer. Neill Blomkamp, who has a history of short films and commercial ads, will direct the Halo film as his first full-length big-screen project. Intriguing choice! Cornballer was first to our forum with the news. (Update: Whoops, looks like the Xbox.com page has been pulled. I guess that means that the unconfirmed nature of this bit is now even more firmly unconfirmed. Or something. - mnem) (Louis Wu 16:58:28 UTC)

There's something wrong with those...
NeuroKoNeza stopped by to point out a rather bizarre HaloCE creation... evil Teletubbies in a death arena. Wow. (Louis Wu 11:56:31 UTC)

Halo Angel
Wow. Pinkuh took a stab at the Christianity references in Halo 2 with a new piece of art - there's a tutorial coming later today or tomorrow. In the meantime check out this pretty amazing picture (just under 300K). It's also available in her local Gallery. (Louis Wu 11:57:18 UTC)

Cheapest Halo... ever.
Wow. Circuit City is having a huge July 4th week sale, and if you visit Cheapassgamers.com (registration required to see the list), there's a list of games scheduled to be part of this sale... and the Halo Triple Pack (Halo, Halo 2, Halo Multiplayer Map Pack) is on the list. $9 - don't miss this! Thanks to Konrad for posting this on our forum. Update: Derik Olsson found a no-registration-needed list. (Louis Wu 16:53:54 UTC)

1.25 Mil for Top Gamers
Wow. Over at Gamasutra, there's a story about the new deals signed by MLG with the top Halo players - Team Final Boss and individual Tsquared; each of the five players involved will be paid a quarter of a million dollars to play exclusively in MLG competitions. Walshy's comment is great:

"Three years ago I never could have imagined that I'd be making more money than my parents playing video games!"

Interestingly, this news is not on MLG's own site yet. Update: It's now up at MLGPro.com - the contracts are 3 years, which makes the money quite a bit more reasonable. Thanks to ZoneManWilf for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 16:30:38 UTC)

Plagiarized Cover Might Become a Collector's Item
Wow. I wouldn't have expected this... but the latest word on the 'Halo gun on a non-Halo book cover' story has taken a new twist; the author posted this morning that as of now, the publisher is planning on printing future copies (including the paperback edition) with a different cover. (This is unofficial, in the sense that someone could reverse that decision before anything new is actually printed... but it makes sense - and it shows the power a fan community can have, ESPECIALLY if they conduct themselves appropriately.) Wow, does that look good!
Another one of our poster winners, Indutiomarus, just got his prize back from the frame shop... and wow. (He says the angle's to avoid the glare.) Makes me wish I'd entered! (The pic is by Mike Hill, if you don't recognize it.) (Louis Wu 07:32:48 UTC)

He's in a better place now.
Wow. JakeDaGreat told a story, in pictures, of what happened to Mister Chief after he was assembled from Frankie's origami stuff in the latest BWU. Read the whole thread - there are updates, and side stories, and... (other pictures, too, thanks to Bluegrunt and Greenskull.) Update: There's more of 'em, here - this batch from Bluegrunt. (At some point, we're gonna have to let you find 'em on your own; these have the potential of taking over the front page. Consider this the last official update.) (Louis Wu 08:27:48 UTC)

Dustbowl Megabattle
Wow. rockslider has discovered a new, untapped location for a megabattle in Halo - the dustbowl in Truth and Reconciliation (just before the gravity lift area). Go read up on it at the Bad Cyborg site! (Louis Wu 11:57:40 UTC)

The Best Game Evar? Or Just No Competition?
How long will this keep up? Today marks 77 weeks since Halo 2's release. And the number one game on Xbox Live, according to Major Nelson? Yep. Halo 2. Wow. (Louis Wu 11:18:01 UTC)

White Fur and Soap in Hand
Wow. There's so much new content on the Halo-related blog Dead Man's Hand that I can't even list all the new articles, much less summarize them. The most recent item is an interview with Stuntmutt that's definitely worth a read - but there's plenty of other stuff; I liked the Legos to Halos rant, for example. Check it all out - and thanks to Dweezle86 for dropping by our forum to let us know it was there. (Louis Wu 14:18:29 UTC)

For those who love Halo art...
Wow. Bungie's Weekly Update is certainly worth reading this week... they've announced what looks to be a pretty darned spectacular product, coming this summer... a Halo Graphic Novel, put together by some amazing names. Go read it; I can't do it justice with a news post. (It's at B.net, of course, but it's also local, in the BWU Archive.) If you're wondering about that link name... check this forum post from earlier this afternoon. Moral of the story - Frankie can be petty, don't cross him. (Louis Wu 01:36:38 UTC)

Honored by a real Talent
Wow. Elnea's latest avatar... is for me. Awesome piece of work, in fact. I'd tell you to go read about its creation in her RvB journal - but RvB seems to be down right at the moment... so maybe try again later. But in the meantime... thanks, Elnea! (Louis Wu 11:36:43 UTC)

MPD - You CAN be cured.
Wow. Mothergoat took some time out of his busy schedule to put together a Public Service Announcement yesterday; he looks carefully at MPD, a treatable disorder affecting a large percentage of the over-24 gamer population. I think even Green Day would approve. Swing by his forum post for download links (we've provided local mirrors, both of his original WMP9 and a QT version for those who need it). Then laugh a lot. What was that spike?
Hrm... Slacker Entertainment posted a new tidbit, called 'Heroes & Heretics Flashback #1: Flatulon the Uncorked', on their website, recently. It's... wow. It's something else. I guess this is what happens when you put a bunch of psychologically unstable soldiers together in a remote location, without ammo. Available in lots of formats. Thanks, TheWereSloth. Needler Crystals
Wow. Someone built a needler - and is selling the crystals for it on eBay. Pretty cool-looking! Thanks to BARBARIC RAGE, who pointed out the listing on eBay.co.uk - but it's on the US version, as well. Currently at about $60, with a day and a half left in the auction. (Louis Wu 18:14:44 UTC)

ARE Videogames really death trainers?
Wow. For a few years, I've been openly scornful of the attitudes of Jack Thompson, the lawyer who's made his career suing videogame companies for wrongful death; I've felt that his arguments are specious at best, and maliciously deceptive most of the time. Well, the guy just got a helping hand from a surprising source - the Washington Post. (Don't forget that bugmenot.com will help you read that, if you don't have an account.) It's an article in which both soldiers, and those who train them, state plainly that the videogames they play help them both in battlefield tactics, and in breaking down the barriers to shooting another person. Yeah, there are a couple of paragraphs in the story devoted to soldiers who were NOT made insensitive to death by video games - but it feels like a tacked-on afterthought in an attempt at 'balanced coverage' to me. Any way you cut it - you can be sure this article will turn up in court, in Jack's briefcase. Lots of people pointed this out to us - looks like Paul Marsh was first. And while Snowy_Duck was 10 hours behind Paul, he did start the first forum thread on the topic. Go discuss. Update: Same article is available without a login at msnbc.com - thanks, Dry Ice. The Marty Army Music
Wow. A note came in last week, I spaced on posting it, the submitter was kind enough to send it again (politely), I spaced AGAIN. Someone needs to hire a real news guy for this place... the one we've got ain't cutting it. ANYWAY, the note was from Andrew Matlock, who is a member of the Marty Army, as well as someone interested in facilitating interaction among musicians inspired by Halo. He's set up a website which offers to help you share your Halo-related music, in addition to keeping track of composer profiles and music product reviews. All genres and styles are welcomed - the only common thread must be inspiration by Marty. Check out the upload page... submit your work... and when there's some content to show you, we'll be sure to mention it! (Hopefully in a more timely manner than this newspost.) Chaos on the Creek
Wow. We fixed the MPRRS upload problem, and in short order 6 movies entered the system. The first one in was the first one out - successfully. jamie98s (previously known primarily for his 'Oh So Beautiful' series) created 'Chaos on the Creek', a story of two factions that decide they can't live together. Cinematography is awesome - watch this one for the camerawork alone, even if you don't like the story. (Which is pretty good in its own right.) Grab it in WMP9 format (29.1 mb) or QuickTime format (28.3 mb). Awesomeness. (Louis Wu 01:52:39 UTC)
