HSH Roundup
RC Master kindly sent along a summary of some of the cool new content at High Speed Halo:

  • There's a 3:51 Legendary speedrun of Nightfall, by Ignatius - with no shots fired, no enemies killed. Wow.
  • Ensnared Cadaver and BishopOfAngst did a lot of co-op ODST speedrunning: NMPD HQ on Normal, Kikowani Stn. on Normal and Easy, Kizingo Blvd. on Normal, and Tayari Plaza on Heroic. Busy guys! (The runs are pretty slick, and worth watching.)
  • Ensnared Cadaver also has a solo run of Kikowani Stn. on Heroic.
  • Finally, Gocnak ran Uplift Reserve on Legendary, in a Zero Shot Pacifist Vidmaster Classic run... in 2:26. That's insanely quick.

He also wanted to remind you that Awesome games done quick starts tomorrow, and Cody Miller will be running Halo in between his Portal and MGS2 runs. Tune in! (Louis Wu 19:31:14 UTC)

Don't bore Emile. He doesn't like it.
Wow... I knew Emile could be crass, but... Thanks to T07WRX5 for the find. (Louis Wu 15:43:58 UTC)

The most inconvenient convenience EVAR
Wow. ElzarTheBam pointed out an article at Joystiq about a Noble Map Pack pre-order deal from Gamestop that has me reaching for the duct tape... (We all need to keep our brains in our skulls SOMEHOW.) (Louis Wu 19:19:46 UTC)

Talkin' 'bout videogames
Wow... so there's a company who monitors web discussion of video games, and reports their results. (That's odd.) And for the month of September, Halo: Reach was the most talked-about game online. (That's not quite so odd.) If you want more details about Overtone's GameVoice report, go read the press release. (Louis Wu 10:56:40 UTC)

Halo CE News Roundup
Our man in the field send us a list of some cool goings-on in the Halo CE community:

Sort of incredible how much stuff is still happening - and how much of it is GOOD. (Louis Wu 21:48:50 UTC)

A Fistful of Arrows
Wow. Just... wow. Leviathan is back with a new comic - this one involves Noble Team a bit before Reach starts. Page 1 is in this forum post, Pages 2-3 are here. Images are quite large... but worth the download effort. Wow. (Louis Wu 22:38:22 UTC)

Testing the limits of the Lock
Wow. Armor Lock doesn't work like I thought it did. Check out The Armor Lock Files, courtesy of The WorkPLace and Squeaky Boot Productions. Thanks, Pete Rock. (Louis Wu 16:44:45 UTC)

Two new trilogies and a movie? Wonga.
Hmm... during a panel discussion at New York Comic Con last night, Jeff Gomez, President and CEO of Starlight Runner, a PR company, previewed a slide showing some of the upcoming stuff from the Halo franchise - "two new trilogies starting in 2012/2013 with a major motion picture set for release by 2014." Wow... that's a lot of content. Thanks, Exanubisleader. (Louis Wu 20:16:01 UTC)

Slipping through the cracks
Wow. RC Master posted a film showing off a snippet from a SLASO run on Nightfall that lasted just 4:15. (The WHOLE RUN lasted that long, not his video.) That's... absurd. (My Legendary run of that level - with just cosmetic skulls on - took 83 minutes.) Go see how to speedrun this puppy. (Louis Wu 21:24:31 UTC)

Fan Coverage in Unlikely Places
Wow. So a website devoted to materials handling, "ForkliftAction.com", has an article about the new forklift in Reach. How's THAT for fan coverage? (You can only read the article if you're a member of the site, so if you're interested, but NOT a part of that industry, we'll save them their bandwidth and the headaches of unnecessary signups and show you this screenshot. Forky Forever! (Louis Wu 17:23:34 UTC)

Chocolate Spartans... mmm
Wow. Someone used a McFarlane Spartan figure to create a silicone mold... and then used that mold to make chocolate Spartans. Hawty McBloggy, of course, makes it all as sexual as she possibly can... but the bottom line is, this is really cool. Check it. Update: apparently, you shouldn't try this at home - 405th bigwig Adam Grumbo chimed into the comment thread with this: "oh boy. rebound 25 is not approved for food consumption. but cool stuff." Hadn't even thought about that! (Louis Wu 15:26:52 UTC)

Random Halo Goodies
Zen Volta pointed out a couple of Halo links we hadn't seen before - OXM Online posted a list of the Strangest Multiplayer Secrets, and ODST was the first game on their list. (I learned a couple of things.) And some guy on the internet figured out how to kill himself... during the opening sequence of the first Halo game. Wow. (Louis Wu 15:03:24 UTC)

I love creative Halo fans.
Wow. Swing by Hawty McBloggy's for a really, really cool piece of stained glass art - someone created a version of the Halo Legendary icon. I want. (Louis Wu 14:40:43 UTC)

Vidmaster Classic - in 2:31
FunkyFunkyFunky set a Guinness World Record for the fastest running of the Vidmaster Classic in Halo 3: ODST - what's funny is that the run on Bungie.net's front page has been beaten by two seconds (again by FunkyFunkyFunky, a couple of days ago), but the video's not rendered yet. 2:31 to finish Uplift Reserve on Legendary... wow. Update: Rendered now. (Louis Wu 16:36:06 UTC)

Unboxing Reach
Another video is available today on Bungie.net, or watchable on YouTube; it's 3 Bungie bigwigs, showing off all the new retail goodies you'll be able to buy on September 14. (To my knowledge, Bungie's never done this before... but Reach is a slightly different beast than the games that preceded it.) They perform a full unboxing of the Limited and Legendary Editions of the game, with commentary... along with the unboxing of the brand-new Halo Reach Special Edition Xbox 360 Slim. (That puppy's pretty slick-looking...) The bundle comes with the 360, 2 custom Reach controllers, and the game, and will sell for $400 - but only for a limited time. Wow. (Louis Wu 10:01:31 UTC)

Build your own Oonsk
Wow... Belakor built a cardboard Oonsk, and then created a papercraft template for the little guy, so you can make your own. I know some folks who might be unhappy about that... (Louis Wu 14:44:52 UTC)

TDSpiral unveiled the fully-colored 'Headhunters' (a submission he's making to the Evolutions Art Contest) - and I have to say... wow. Go look. (And... that's it for the news today. Time to enjoy our freedom!) (Louis Wu 14:52:54 UTC)

Reach Firefight Customization Options
Inside Gaming did their own interview with Brian - plus grabbed footage from Lars' presentation during the Reach event last night. A good view of the customization screens in Firefight! Thanks, MattDratt. Update: FyreWulff went through and transcribed all the readable customization options - check 'em out in this post. Wow... just wow. (Louis Wu 21:57:26 UTC)

Elite Comparison
Riceatron took a bunch of high-res screenshots of an Elite in both Halo 3 and Halo: Reach, and stuck them all together in a monster image, so that you can get a feel for how the Elite model has been upgraded. And wow... it's been upgraded. I mean, that's been clear for a while, but this image shows you EXACTLY how impressive the changes are. (Louis Wu 18:04:56 UTC)

Wow. If you want all the goodness that is Reach Beta information, in one place... you couldn't do better than GhaleonEB's thread-starting post for the Halo: Reach Beta Thread on NeoGAF. Now THAT'S some nice summarization. (Louis Wu 15:00:08 UTC)

what is this I don't even
Good lord. Over at High Impact Halo, slYnki has launched a Scorpion tank to the top of the Banshee Pillar on AotCR (actually, above it, but it's the pillar that's ridiculous). What did it take? 250 grenades. Just... wow. Thanks, Ducain. (Louis Wu 14:27:15 UTC)

Empire (a UK film magazine) put Frank O'Connor's comments about a Halo movie to music - Beyonce's Halo, to be precise. Nice! Thanks, MC_Leprechaun. (Louis Wu 15:29:59 UTC)

There's a new Tag and Release feature up at Bungie.net - the term is 'owned', and the sample screens are pure ownage. Can you find better ones? Give it a try. (Louis Wu 17:13:05 UTC)

Project Lumoria
Wow. There've been a few forays into single-player gameplay with Halo: Custom Edition - but mostly they've been recreations of the standard Halo PC campaign levels, or small tests. Check out Lumoria - a full campaign experience from the TM Mapping Team. It's not available for download yet, but the link above should show you where they're going. Exciting stuff! (Louis Wu 14:06:23 UTC)
