Halo Wars Demo - on film
Wow. Denmark's NextGenReport has posted a huge (almost 40 minutes long) recording of the Halo Wars Demo, due to be released next week to the public. If you want to watch what you'll be able to do... go watch. If you'd rather experience it for yourself... hold off. Thanks, CrazedArabMan. (Louis Wu 20:06:54 UTC)

Pro-tip - don't try to escape in a Banshee
Wow... ANOTHER Plasma Pistol montage? I'm amazed there's enough footage for ONE, let alone two. (This one, unlike the last one, actually has people fighting back... which makes the deaths all the more funny to watch.) Go check out conor2020's HD ode to the blobshooter. And hope you're not in the next one. Thanks, urk. (Louis Wu 14:53:58 UTC)

Halo on PS3 the Easy Way
Wow. Some guy gutted a PS3, and filled it with the innards from an Xbox 360... he's calling it a PS360, and it's pretty much the only way you'll ever play Halo 3 on a PS3. Me? I'm wondering why you'd trash a $400 box to fill it with a $200 box... Thanks, Buttskunk. (Louis Wu 18:19:07 UTC)

Update on a disturbing shooting in Ohio
I... wow. I don't know what to say about this. Cleveland.com has an update on a court case that began last October, when a 16-year-old boy was barred from buying Halo 3 by his parents. In retribution for this, the boy shot both of his parents in the head, killing his mother and wounding his father, a pastor. It's difficult to look at the facts in the case and say "the parents did a bad job", or "the boy clearly had problems that weren't being addressed" - from the details available in the original story, it would appear he was a normal kid with a normal life. Would something else have driven him to this extreme if it hadn't been a video game? It's impossible to say... but it's a frightening case that should make you think a little bit about violence in our society. (Louis Wu 17:00:53 UTC)

Silent Cartographer SPV2 gameplay, with commentary
Wow. The team working on the campaign modifications for HaloCE has released a video showing off SPV2 Gameplay footage, specifically the beginning of the Silent Cartographer level. I must say, I'm stunned. Go watch (the commentary is great). Thanks, Botolf. (Louis Wu 22:09:26 UTC)

Great Prices on Halo Figures
Wow. I don't know how long this deal is going to last... but Amazon is having a huge sale on Halo goodies; if you haven't bought Christmas presents yet, now's a good time. Some figures are as much as 70% off. Go look! (Louis Wu 18:43:02 UTC)

Recondary.
Wow. So remember how last week, the Legendary Map Pack was on sale for 400 MS Points? Turns out if you played any Matchmaking that used it (so, anyone who bought it last week, or anytime before that, and actually USED it last week), you made yourself eligible for some free Recon armor. Out of the 'hundreds of thousands' of unique gamertags that played, they picked a 'sizeable selection of winners' at random. Were you one of them? Only way to find out is to check your perms when you get home! (Louis Wu 23:11:17 UTC)

Song of the Clan
Wow. A long time ago, Elnea wrote an instrumental piece - a sad song about a group of Elites preparing for a battle they know they'll lose. It was recorded as a duet with piano (Elnea) and oboe (OboeCrazy), but never released. Later, she expanded the piece with lyrics - and a friend (Felicia Quinn) recorded it for a student recital. You can listen to the instrumental version (50 seconds) on Elnea's mac.com site. The expanded version is there as well - but it was recorded from the back of the room, and is very hard to hear; I normalized it a little, and you can listen to that version here. (Elnea's page is definitely worth visiting - she's got backgroud, lyrics, credits - the whole shebang.) (Louis Wu 22:18:49 UTC)

PreGame Lobby Ep 8

Classic Halo Tricking
Wow. Ducain sent word of a thread over at High Impact Halo, started by Lone Starr - it contains a bunch of clips of Halo 1 tricks that are really, really impressive. Stuff I've never seen before - and we're now more than 7 years on! Go grab 'em and watch. (Louis Wu 17:32:17 UTC)

Splazed.
Wow. urk, over at Bungie, found a 'Splasertage' from a guy who's got more than 18,000 spartan laser kills under his belt. According to Halo3.junk.ws, I've only got a few thousand kills more than that... with EVERY weapon, combined. (This one really benefits from the higher-quality YouTube version... and the writeup there says 21,000 kills, not 18,000.) (Louis Wu 15:03:23 UTC)

Fairfax 'n' the Chief
Wow... I'm floored. Hawty McBloggy enlisted the help of a LOT of friends to create an amazing montage of pictures showing off Fairfax the Bunny in a variety of Halo-related situations. Photoshop for the win! Fairfax is Marissa's Bunny, and he's out there to build awareness for infantile spasms - Hawty has shown that when a good cause is on the line, the Halo community can really step up. Check out the pics, leave your comments in the thread, and then visit Marissa's Bunny's page and see how you can help! (Louis Wu 18:06:22 UTC)

I don't know what to say.
Wow... this thread made me very, very sad. A denizen of the Bungie.net forums was served divorce papers this week... because he spends more time with video games than with his wife. (I think what REALLY threw me for a loop, though, was the response - when faced with the loss of his wife and child, he posted "well, more quality time on Halo now!!") The thread is locked; you can't follow up there (either with commiseration or ridicule), but I thought it was worth pointing out. As much as I love Halo... please remember, it's a game. People are way more important than games. Thanks to Tyrant for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 13:26:01 UTC)

The man's a machine.
Wow. Just... wow. Back in July, we pointed out that Pahis had destroyed the 'Million Point Challenge' set up by High Speed Halo back in October 2007 - using only three levels. His total score, at that point, was 2.2 million. He'd also completed the full game in SLASO mode in four and a quarter hours. Cody Miller stopped by to announce that Pahis has shattered the 3 million point milestone for Campaign scoring... and he's down to just over three and a half hours for his SLASO speedrun total. Pahis - holder of both High Score and SLASO Speed records, for every level in Halo 3. As Cody says... Inconceivable! (Louis Wu 18:19:54 UTC)

Extra Life - a charity event for kids, from gamers
O L sent us a note about a charity called 'Extra Life', a 24 hour gaming marathon, where people can pledge money for each our a gamer participates. It's being supported by two gaming communities that have Halo ties - Sarcastic Gamer and Achievement Hunter. This isn't really Halo-related... but proceeds go to the Texas Children's Hospital. Swing by and check it out! Update: Wow. RvB community members Peenutty and Greatmumphry have committed to matching the first $1000 collected by this team through their wonderful mexican food company, XLNT Foods. They're already at $680 - another $320 and the total will jump $1000 more. Don't you love this community? (Louis Wu 14:17:19 UTC)

MC and Grunts - it's over three thousand!
Wow. The Master Chief and Grunts Silver Statue auction ended last night - and the final price jumped $1300 in the last 40 seconds, leading to a final sales price of $3,050. The other three auctions are still going - Master Chief and Arbiter ends Wednesday night (it's at $1669.69), Master Chief and Flood ends on Friday night ($1328), and Cortana ends on Sunday night (it's at $1500 right now). Count on these going MUCH higher. (Just think how much better that news headline would have been if the price had tripled...) (Louis Wu 14:07:45 UTC)

ComicCon - for everyone who didn't make it
Wow. Over at Bungie.net, CrypticGuardian created an 8-part vidoc of the Halo Panel discussion (and other Halo-related material) at ComicCon last week, along with lots of still pics. Videos are hosted at YouTube, and have official sanction. If you couldn't make it out there yourself... this is the next best thing! Thanks, DHalo. (Louis Wu 12:37:35 UTC)

Some great Halo fan art at DA
Wow. onebitrocket pointed out this artwork of an Elite (and some Brutes), done by Chase-SC2 over on DeviantART. Amazing! (He also did a pretty nice ODST image.) Check 'em out! (Louis Wu 13:47:46 UTC)

Solo, Legendary, All Skulls On. Yeah, Baby.
Wow. NOKYARD sent word that Pahis (Pahat Pojat) has done some amazing Campaign work - first up, he beat the Million Point Challenge using just three levels; The Ark (443,175), The Covenant (415,230), and Cortana (168,075). (This blows away the first instance of that challenge being beaten, back in October - that one needed six levels.) Go read the news post at High Speed Halo for download links (or grab the runs themselves from Pahis' FileShare). That October news post, with the challenge getting beaten the first time? I asked if anyone wanted to try for two million points - Pahis has done that, with a combined total of 2,243,974 points for all nine levels. These runs are done Solo, Legendary, All Skulls On - as of May 2, only two people had completed the game in this mode. According to NOKYARD, he holds the High Score record for all Campaign missions, the SLASO record for each mission, and has completed the entire game in SLASO style in 4:13:22 (though not in a single sitting). Insanity. Go watch some of it. (Louis Wu 18:50:27 UTC)

Someday-Night Grifball... sort of.
Wow. I missed it, because I was out all afternoon... but Someday-Night Grifball was broadcast this afternoon, and the game was XTR3M3 vs L.I.E. (the winner to play Team HBO in Round 3 of the Sword League Playoffs). Looks like L.I.E. took the match - but I'm having trouble actually seeing it (the JustinTV feed is about 1 frame per sec, and the downloadable version seems to be corrupted, or maybe not fully uploaded yet). Maybe check back later! (Louis Wu 23:31:14 UTC)

Room to grow
Whoa. Remember when we mentioned a large area outside of Blackout that could be used by Forgers to build new open-field layouts? It's been hard to get a sense of how big that area really is; you can't see it, after all. pete_the_duck made things easier for us by outlining the edges with boxes... and yeah, it's pretty huge. Wow. (Louis Wu 15:13:19 UTC)

Halo 3, single segment, 77 minutes.
Wow. XBmaster has become the first person to complete Halo 3 in a single run, without dying. It's on easy, and it took him 77 minutes (well, and 3 seconds, but we'll forgive him those three). You can watch it over at High Speed Halo. (It's also available as Fileshare-hosted film clips, so you can use Bungie's timestamps to confirm that this was done in one sitting.) Thanks, NOKYARD. Update: Sunburned Goose points out that this is not a 'no deaths' run; He dies jumping off the Scarab at 5:20 through the Storm. My bad, sorry. (Louis Wu 15:17:44 UTC)

Be careful who you anger.
Wow. Over at DLSReports.com, there's a story about a guy who does (well, did) tech support for Comcast who got cheated on while playing Halo 2 - and he took his revenge by using Comcast's internal tools to find the cheater's home address and phone and calling the guy's father. The DSLReports story focuses on the inappropriate use of proprietary information - but the lesson stands; you're almost never as anonymous as you think you are. Thanks, Z (who apparently undeleted the post linked to at the start of the story, since I can read it there again). (Louis Wu 11:13:03 UTC)

BELIEVE Spiker for sale tomorrow
Wow. If you've got REALLY deep pockets, the Spiker from one of the Believe commercials is being auctioned off live, tomorrow - starting bid is $3500, with an expectation that it might reach $5500. (I've never participated in a live auction on eBay before - but apparently, they get to charge a premium on top of your standard bid - realize that whatever you SAY you're bidding, you'll be owing 20% more. That means starting bid is actually $4200...) Thanks, x Zero x. (Louis Wu 22:32:08 UTC)
