There are so many different search areas - news, art, forum, updates - or maybe you just wanna find posts by your friends. Or maybe you want better access to the subsections of HBO, without having to go to the main page first. Well, BOLL is here for you. He's created the HBO PAL, a small popup window that gives you access to an enormous swath of HBO info in one little strip of real estate. Stick it in a corner of your screen, see if it makes your life any easier. (If it doesn't... hey, just close it.) Don't forget to thank him. (Louis Wu 00:40:35 UTC)
September 6, 2004 Link to this post Poor kitty :( Resident flash monkey BOLL has posted his own take on the Gamestar event. At least *some* people got to play the right version of Halo 2... (Count Zero 21:11:14 UTC)
August 4, 2004 Link to this post Always Outnumbered. Never Outpunned. Wow. 200 strips. And that doesn't count Sundays, or Holidays, or Guest strips, or Archived strips. There are a lot of things you can say about Stuntmutt, but fly-by-night isn't one of them. Today's One One Se7en has got to be one of the worst puns EVER. Update: That BOLL just COULDN'T leave well enough alone, could he? (Louis Wu 10:07:44 UTC)
August 1, 2004 Link to this post Fonni Indeed Do you love Misterchief? A tribute, from BOLL. (Louis Wu 14:10:29 UTC)
July 14, 2004 Link to this post Happy Birthday, BOLL! BOLL turned 22 today. How many people give YOU a present on THEIR birthday? BOLL gives you this cool wallpaper. Enjoy. (Louis Wu 11:44:02 UTC)
July 10, 2004 Link to this post Mommeee! He did it again, mommie. Make him stop. Make that bad BOLL man stop. (Move your mouse around if this post confuses you.) (Louis Wu 13:23:09 UTC)
July 5, 2004 Link to this post More Megabattle pics The Megabattle technique pioneered by n00bles last week has been played with by other fans - it looks like fun! BOLL got started recently (that's a 299k JPEG - I'm guessing it's only the beginning), and yesterday VALENCE posted some shots on our forum. If past experience is any indication, I'm guessing that a flood of new visual content will be pouring out of the community soon. Update: Looks like MereCatfish is getting into the act, as well. Very nice set piece on Fissure Falls! (Louis Wu 08:23:56 UTC)
July 2, 2004 Link to this post Game Crossovers... over the top A week ago, Ross Mills challenged our forum to come up with some Halo-related game crossovers - alter a picture of Halo by bringing in elements from another game. There were a number of entries - a couple quite funny - but BOLL, as usual, can't be satisfied with a simple picture - he has to make a PLAYABLE GAME. Starts easy, but it gets hellish around 100. (Louis Wu 15:42:28 UTC)
July 1, 2004 Link to this post A Halo movie - in German? Weirdness. Carlo Zottman has discovered a German site that claims to be in negotiations for a Halo movie. Boll Kino-Beteiligungs-GmbH & Co. KG (no relation whatsoever to our resident Flash maniac) has a prospectus on their download page (everything is in German - no English anywhere) that lists, on page 29, movie licenses for existing game properties that are 'currently in negotiation' - and Halo is on the list. If you poke around the site, you'll find links to existing movies they've done... and I must say I'm not sure I'd be happy seeing them do a Halo movie... but this is one rumor that simply won't go away. June 4, 2004 Link to this post The man is out of control. Spideroptics might have said it best - "It's Bungie vs. BOLL. Who will win? Stay tuned." BOLL's latest shot over the bow is a custom 3d screenshot... and all I can say is WOW. (Hit left or right arrow, and watch the large plasma bolt's leading edge crackle.) Because BOLL's ISP sharply throttles traffic outside Scandinavian countries, you might want to look at our local mirror of this file (6.1 mb, Flash format), rather than the links in BOLL's forum post. (Louis Wu 02:13:35 UTC)
May 30, 2004 Link to this post 3D screenshot for folks who hate QuickTime Yesterday, Rip-Saw posted a note about an option to view the 3D screenshot Bungie posted Friday for those without QuickTime - he created a 2.1 mb, 320x240 animated gif. Viewing it took a little work; there's no .gif extension on it, so many browsers don't know what to do with it. BOLL came to the rescue, with a more elegant (though quite a bit larger) solution: a 7.4 mb Flash version (640x480) that reproduced the rotational options of the 3D QuickTime VR version. There is a problem with that version, though - it's a really, really, REALLY slow download outside of Scandinavia. He's uploaded an updated version to our servers; this one remembers your starting point (multiple rotations aren't quite so jarring any more), and he's added an auto-rotate feature (left and right arrows, down arrow to stop). View it in our Miscellaneous section. (Again, if you've got the hi-res QuickTime version, and it works for you, you don't really need this - it's for the QuickTime-impaired.) (Louis Wu 13:23:51 UTC)
May 23, 2004 Link to this post Halo 2 Logos, packaged for use A couple of days ago, Owl created a pretty huge standalone Halo 2 logo. Yesterday, Fury Three posted a standalone rendered version... and BOLL posted his own stuff (extracted from the official site's content). Between these, you should be able to find a version you can use for your web creations... (Louis Wu 15:38:27 UTC)
May 10, 2004 Link to this post Tool becomes more accessible One of the utilities distributed with Halo CE is Tool.exe, a small app that converts data exported from outside apps (3ds max, for example) to a format that the Halo CE tools can work with. It's command-line driven, though, and some modders are already getting into making it more friendly/useful to the novice. BOLL has created a short document with some of the most common commands, in reference form, so you don't have to dig through the HEK Tutorial for what you need. (This is the sort of document we'd LOVE to add to a full Info section on Halo CE - with permission from the author.) And Stuart has begun work on a GUI for the app, for folks who like buttons more than -options (thanks, Wraith). This is only the beginning! (Louis Wu 09:50:29 UTC)
April 30, 2004 Link to this post Bill Murray's coming by later to sing. What's a birthday without presents? Some HBO regulars put together a small collection of presents for Stuntmutt to celebrate the One Year Anniversary of One One Se7en. Of course, there are plenty of others that feel like this might be the perfect time to hang up the pencil... but hey, never listen to the naysayers. They'll just say nay. (Louis Wu 18:12:10 UTC)
April 29, 2004 Link to this post I smell a SA-type contest coming on... Deanero asked a reasonable question on our forum, concerning the energy balance of Halo and its denizens. (Personally, I think Speedy's answer is the most likely, and not just because he took a totally gratuitous shot at KP in formulating it.) BOLL, however, went in a different direction... hrm. (Louis Wu 17:38:43 UTC)
April 22, 2004 Link to this post 20 MORE Desktops? Ouch. As promised, we have another batch of 20 desktops for you today; 23, if you want to count the BOLL variants. (Even more if you count the SIZE variants... but BOLL's are actually image variants.) Check 'em out in our Wallpaper section! There's still more in the queue, both wallpaper and miscellaneous art... coming soon! (Louis Wu 15:33:10 UTC)
April 15, 2004 Link to this post And The Winners Are... Nothing ever goes as planned - but we've finally (FINALLY) finished tallying up the results from the Win A Date With One One Seven contest. The five lucky winners of the Halo 2 Calendars are: - Taylor Cartwright, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
- Aaron Bayley, Sandbach, Cheshire, England
- Austin Drake, Maize, KS
- Ryan Luevanos, La Jolla, CA
- Jeffrey Howe, Lubbock, TX
It was tough picking through the more than 3,500 entries... huge thanks to Stuntmutt and BOLL for finding the time to make this happen. The winning strips - and 36 runners-up - can be seen in this section. Way to go, everyone! (Louis Wu 02:56:49 UTC)
April 8, 2004 Link to this post Win a Date with One One Se7en Short notice, I know... but sometimes, you just gotta grab the bull by the horns. We've got a new contest for you: come up with a brilliant one-liner using BOLL's Automagic 117 StripMaker, and win a cool prize! To help you along, BOLL has added 31 new panels to the collection; let your creativity go wild! All details can be found on the Win A Date With One One Se7en page - be sure to note the closing date of the contest. You've only got a few days! (Louis Wu 20:19:16 UTC)
April 4, 2004 Link to this post Now THAT was a long puzzle. Back in mid-January, a puzzle was kicked off at Yahoo Groups by Skavenger, BOLL, c0ld vengeance, and MorningStar. We just received word from MorningStar that it's come to a close... and the winners are ModdedCyborg, Sgt. Bigglesworth, and Gutupio, in that order. Congrats, guys! (Louis Wu 03:40:34 UTC)
April 3, 2004 Link to this post Stuntmutt's Frankenstein - now with more bolts! BOLL, never one to rest on his laurels, has added yet ANOTHER cool feature to his AutoMagic 117 Stripmaker - now you can choose the background color! Specify it via the sliders, if you want... or just type in the hex code you're looking for, if you know it. Changes happen in real time. (All of this requires Javascript; if you have it disabled, you'll still be able to generate strips, but the ONLY way to set the strip background color is by knowing the hex code. There are plenty of online references for colors, though, like this one at Webmonkey. Without javascript, you'll also have to count manually to find strip numbers...) In any case, if you leave either the strip value or the color value blank, they will be randomized, so you'll get a useable strip no matter what. Update: BOLL, the man who cannot leave well enough alone, has added another 20 panels to the collection you can use to make your funniez. Go to work! (Louis Wu 11:59:07 UTC)
April 1, 2004 Link to this post HBO Sweden. And the march continues. BOLL has turned halo.7708.net (home of HHHT, a powerful Halo hacking tool, and some sweet media), over to the HBO conglomerate. We are Halo of b.org - you will be assimilated. (Louis Wu 20:08:27 UTC)
April 1, 2004 Link to this post AutoMagic 117 Stripz BOLL has created a new utility - it gives ANYONE the ability to create One One Se7en strips with Stuntmutt-quality artwork (mostly because it IS Stuntmutt's artwork). It's primary purpose, right now, is to provide our forumgoers with a way to communicate via pictures. A more complete explanation of how to use it (especially ON the forum itself) has been posted here, to save room on the front page. Give it a try! (Louis Wu 12:14:39 UTC)
March 30, 2004 Link to this post Not Just Another Pretty Flash Face BOLL wrote an interesting paper for school recently; it's called 'Analysis of Halo: Combat Evolved using Game Design Patterns'. He uses a methodology developed last year by three Scandinavian researchers to break down gameplay in Halo, and determine how well the game would work without the patterns found. It's an interesting read, so we've posted it in our Miscellaneous section. If he fails the class, we'll probably yank it. (Louis Wu 20:24:10 UTC)
March 30, 2004 Link to this post Of Warthogs, and Launches To all the people pointing out that BOLL's Warthog Launch game is now on Ebaumsworld, or AlbinoBlackSheep, or any of several dozen other sites - we know, thanks. HBO served over a million copies of the game to viewers in the first two and a half weeks it was online - and we're still serving more than 100,000 copies a week. It was monstrous before those sites picked it up, and at least when it was here, BOLL was getting credit for its creation. It's unfortunate that these sites feel that it's acceptable to simply hijack a Flash game without asking the creator for permission - but I guess that's the internet today. (Louis Wu 11:14:05 UTC)
March 28, 2004 Link to this post HHHT updated BOLL points out that HHHT 1.40 has been released; The Helpful Halo Hacking Tool has a few bug fixes, and some nice new features. There are also some (untested) spawn patches for download. See what you can find! (Louis Wu 16:56:34 UTC)
