I can see my house from here!
A few days ago, The Invisable O posted a challenge on the forum: Has anyone ever mapped the entire inner surface of Halo? BOLL took him up on it, and managed to capture some great images of the ring, which he posted in the original thread, along with additional images and explanation. Every time someone declares tricking dead... (Count Zero 15:30:39 UTC)

The Fat Lady has Sung
Wow. That didn't take very long. About 20 hours ago, I posted a note about a contest sponsored by gwdp....to, involving getting in to the separated room on Chill Out. Almost 2 hours ago, Macegac posted a movie (with BOLL's hosting help) showing the completion of that challenge - and this is something that folks on our forum have tried to do, on and off, for almost a year. Guess sometimes it just takes cold hard cash to motivate the hardcore. Nicely done, all around! (Louis Wu 21:39:49 UTC)

The Official Unofficial Halo Drinking Game
Thanks to dolbex and BOLL, who together got the forum back to 4BitterGuys.com, and a Halo drinking game (complete with artwork). I wonder if the RvB guys ever played this? (Louis Wu 16:25:59 UTC)

Oddball Juggling
Anyone who's played Oddball knows that if you release the ball when another player is standing in front of you, they will involuntarily pick it up. So what happens when there are a LOT of balls... and they're all between a pair of players? Devin Olsen asked the question on our forum - and BOLL made a short film showing Oddball Juggling. (If his link goes down, you can find another copy right here. The local version is only 2.7 mb.) (Louis Wu 14:05:19 UTC)

Still more easter eggs to find!
A couple of days ago, SouthPaw posted a note on our forum, asking about an odd shape on the top of the pistol. Shishka grabbed a pic - and identified it as a Japanese '7'. (BOLL later got a better shot.) Looked like an egg... and lo and behold, that's exactly what it is. Check this post by SketchFactor for the history behind its creation. Nice going, folks! Halo Hide and Seek - resurrected!
c0ld vengeance and BOLL have put together another Halo Hide and Seek; identify where, in Halo, you'll find the images posted. There are currently 12 images, in 4 separate posts (to keep from totally overloading dial-up visitors)... in the half-hour since the contest went live, already 2 of the 12 images have been identified! Jump in now for your chance to win! (Louis Wu 18:04:28 UTC)

Pelicans Away!
Thanks again to BOLL - the Flash Pelican game is once again online, though now without a high-score option. Play it for fun. :) (Louis Wu 14:06:38 UTC)

Pelican Flash Game - down for now
Apologies to all who were enjoying the Pelican Flash game (or, more accurately, attempting to get on the high-score list for the game). There were so many of you playing at once (and submitting scores at once) that the server's been bouncing up and down like a yo-yo. For the sake of the REST of HBO, I've pulled it offline for a while. I'll try and figure something out with BOLL so that you can play this without killing the site. I'm sorry... Pelican Fun - now against your friends!
Okay, it's not COMPLETELY done yet... but it's good enough for government work. A few days ago, BOLL released his Pelican Flash game... and folks loved it. It was only one level... but check out the thread of folks nailing that high score. Made us happy enough to crank it up a notch. BOLL went back to the drawing board and added 4 more levels... and I added a high-score backend for the website. Now, when you play the game, you pick your level... at the end, you add your name, hit 'submit', and you can check out how you compare to other site visitors. It's a work-in-progress; BOLL might add more levels, and I'll probably be adding more features to the high-score list (stuff like 'number of times played', that sort of thing)... but it should work, as is. Give it a try! Warning: your score will be ignored if you hit submit without adding a name. Keep that in mind. (Nothing says you have to submit at all; there's a restart button right under submit, you can try again without putting the score up.) Update: There seem to be a LOT of you playing this game, mostly at the same time. (There are a few thousand new scores in the database already...) If you get an error upon submission, it's likely because the database is being updated by someone ELSE at the same time. Sorry about that. (Louis Wu 02:56:12 UTC)

Flash is Fun
BOLL has been a busy little beaver recently; there are two new Flash toys for you to play with. The first is a game he created over a year ago (but forgot to polish until recently) - Fly the Pelican through the cave system, trying your best to miss the walls. The Flash file itself is only about 150K. The second item is a pretty cool clock; time is kept by items (vehicles, and the MC himself) on Blood Gulch. Check it out; it'll become clearer when you see it. The Flash file is 650K, so give it a second to load. If you'd rather run it locally, BOLL has provided standalone executables for both Macs and Windows boxes; they run about a meg each to download. Enjoy! (Louis Wu 18:30:31 UTC)

A panoply of panoramas
BOLL has added 16 new panoramas to his Halorama collection - you can see them here. These are all multiplayer maps, and they (mostly) include players. There are some pretty cool ones in there! (The Flash interface is still not useable; the last two collection exceeded the maximum number of files it could deal with. BOLL's working on it.) (Louis Wu 20:53:55 UTC)

Cold Metal available again
A few weeks ago, we posted a note about a movie that was being hosted by BOLL, temporarily. It was only up for a day or so... nukedude has come to the rescue, and if you're interested in the film, you can grab it there. (Louis Wu 17:58:29 UTC)

Get Joyride to build him!
Hehe - BOLL has put out yet another enjoyable Halo-inspired creation. It was for an intro course in animation... the main character may not LOOK familiar, but he sure SOUNDS familiar. (2 mb, QuickTime format) I love this guy! (Louis Wu 18:34:13 UTC)

Another round of fanfest photos
Skeletor has put up a dozen and a half photos from the E3 Fanfest last week (the perils of non-digital cameras...). Check 'em out... some good flavor stuff in there. (There's a forum thread about this - which is where I learned of it.) You can finally see the 'Boll Says Hi' shirt at the fest! (Louis Wu 09:07:30 UTC)

That Reclaimer pic rocks.
Six images for you today in the Miscellaneous Art section, including four by Mugetsu (very high quality) and a couple of funny photo manipulations. Check 'em all out! Update: Oops, somehow I missed one. (It was hiding. I swear.) Check out BOLL's commentary on Bungie's Halo Babies... (Louis Wu 18:02:57 UTC)

HaloRAMA lama ding dong
BOLL has added another 20 panoramas to his HaloRAMA collection. You can view all images in the default mode, or you can check out just the new images. There are some stunning ones in there! (The Flash interface needs to be updated - by BOLL - before it can show these new images, so for the time being, it's straight html for you...) (Louis Wu 01:23:25 UTC)

Halo Half-Life mod - up for grabs
Some time ago, BOLL started work on a Halo-related mod for Sven Co-op, itself a Half-Life mod. He's decided to give it away, because he no longer has time to work on it. You can read the details in the Sven Co-op forums... or simply download the existing package. Update: BOLL clarified that Sven Co-op actually allows custom models to be built right into maps; BOLL's project, although including custom models for monsters and weapons, is still just a map. (I think we're simply describing the same thing with different words... but he's right, we should be more accurate in the description. :) ) (Louis Wu 15:22:28 UTC)

The in-air seat changes are pretty neat...
SniPeR and -nEo-Atomic have put together a short film called 'Cold Metal Flat Pedal', which shows some warthog flipping stunts. We've chosen not to host it, but forum regular BOLL has kindly stepped up for this one. (Get it soon; it might get pulled during school hours in Sweden, which start at maybe 4 am eastern time.) 3:04 long, 4.8 mb big, in WMP7 format. Update: pulled, for bandwidth issues. Sorry, folks! (Louis Wu 00:17:39 UTC)

More pretty artwork
The miscellaneous artwork submission is smaller than the desktop one today; just one image. Again, there was more, but it came unattributed. Nothing we can do with it... Anyway, check the Miscellaneous Art section for BOLL's fun take on what to do about lamers... (Louis Wu 12:25:48 UTC)

More cool panoramas
BOLL has updated his HALOrama collection with 15 new images, from both campaign and multiplayer levels. We've split the page up a bit to decrease loading times, and also made a more obvious link to his own nifty rotating Flash viewer. Check out the new stuff! (Louis Wu 20:31:16 UTC)

More pretty pictures
Non-desktop artwork - we've got three for you. A cool collaboration between Postman and Dogsounds (posted on our forum a while ago, but only approved by both recently), another bizarre comic from Hack Trio (this is the last one we'll post in Misc Art - any more submissions will have to wait for the opening of the HBO Comics section), and a pretty cool chip BOLL yanked from my neck. You'll find all three in the Miscellaneous Art archives. (Louis Wu 10:49:55 UTC)

I like to sit... and spin.
A little while ago, we put up a page dedicated to BOLL's cool panoramic Halo shots. Recently, he built a wicked-cool Flash interface for viewing these... so we've dumped it into the directory here. Use the plain-vanilla page we built... or BOLL's much slicker viewer. (Benefit of ours, I guess, is that downloading the files is much easier.) (Louis Wu 00:13:38 UTC)

HaloRama - in spades
A week ago, BOLL came up with a new technique for creating cool panoramic views from Halo. He's continued to create, and the current collection is up to 31 images. We've built them a home in our Miscellaneous section, and will add new images as he creates them. (Warning: the current page has more than 30 images on it... it might be slow-loading on modem connections, and even some broadband connections. If things get out of hand, we'll take steps to reduce the load.) Make good use of these images... they're really slick. (Louis Wu 23:01:40 UTC)

Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky?
HBO was down while this was going on... but BOLL started a thread a few days ago in which he posted a series of panoramic views of Halo. (These were created, as you'd find by reading the thread, by standing in one place and rotating slowly... then running the resulting movie through a homebrewed program that stitches together the same column of pixels from each frame.) Count Zero turned a few of these into QTVR panoramas; the end result is a nice 360° view of Halo in several different places. Oh, the ingenuity of fans... (Louis Wu 19:58:31 UTC)
