Copies are in the wild.
BOLL noticed this blog post at destructoid.com - looks like advance copies of Ghosts of Onyx are beginning to arrive at reviewers' doors! (Louis Wu 13:28:26 UTC)

Console Wars
BOLL found a series of vids called 'Console Wars' - they're remakes (hehe, sort of) of Star Wars films, with video game characters sort of grafted on. The Master Chief has a pretty big part. They're pretty funny. (Louis Wu 13:10:42 UTC)

MC, Sketched
Wow, cool. BOLL found a site called 'TheDailyDrawing.com' that has videos showing someone ('J.W.'?) drawing stuff - and today's artwork is the Master Chief. The video is 4:21 long, and was filmed at 2.5x speed, so this pic took about 11 minutes to complete. Pretty fun to watch! (If you're reading this news post at a later date, I'm not positive whether the movie will be available on the site; there are some movies listed, but almost no information at all, so it's not clear if ALL films are archived, or just some; the direct YouTube link is here, and will get you back to TheDailyDrawing in any case.) Enigmatic Observation.
The One One Se7en guest strips come to a close today - the final strip was created by BOLL. It requires a bit of knowledge of the Halo novels (specifically First Strike) to make sense... and, like all stuff BOLL does, is more than it seems at first. Enjoy. (Louis Wu 16:42:17 UTC)

BOLLing for soup-erman
Over at Bungie.net, there's a very cool interview with BOLL, a community member who tends to stand out if you pay any attention to community members. Go read about what makes him tick - I apologize that somehow, I can't find an original picture of his elite carving; I remember telling him to mail it to us as an entry for the Pillar of Art contest. (He decided it was too expensive to ship.) And what would a BOLL piece be without a cool Flash tidbit? Go read. Update: Heh - good to know at least ONE person kept that original stuff. Here's a screenshot of Battleground: Halo's front page (they're now HaloPlanet) when BOLL's carving was featured back in 2002, and here are the three cam shots (0902 | 0903 | 0904). Ah, memories... He's at it again...
BOLL tossed up a simple (but rather disturbing) Flash comparison of... well, go look. (Louis Wu 13:01:43 UTC)

I hope he wiped his feet.
BOLL, known around these parts for his Flash skillz, came through the US last fall - he just found one of the photos of his visit to my house this week. Check it out. (Louis Wu 18:43:33 UTC)

Where's Ctrl+C On This Thing?
Stuntmutt recently hung out with some clanmates (in a bar, where else?), and they discovered why there are only three strips a week. Check out today's One One Se7en to see for yourself. (We'd like to apologize for the accidental posting of Friday's strip, for a short time; I blame me. Well, actually, I blame BOLL - but he's gonna say he's not even part of the staff here, so... Anyway, that strip will be up on Friday, as planned.) (Louis Wu 21:27:00 UTC)

Trash Talk.
Recently, Uwe Boll has spoken out about his opinion of the chances that the Halo movie will succeed. Stuntmutt tosses his two cents on that subject into the pot with today's One One Se7en. (Louis Wu 17:06:04 UTC)

Live at the Hollywood Boll
I lied. There are some tasty morsels at Rampancy.net - you should read them before I'm through tonight. Uwe Boll (filmmaker extraordinaire, you betcha) has predicted that the Halo movie will be a failure (and you should read this, too, for a laugh)... and Narcogen has taken it upon himself to try and explain why Boll continues to make movies. (If you really want to be cynical, there's always Stuart Woods' theory...) What does all of this add up to? For me - it's that SOMEONE was smart enough to keep that man FAR away from the Halo script. UPDATE: Son Goharotto points out an article at 1UP where Boll calls it quits for videogame movies. (Louis Wu 05:27:11 UTC)

No Halo Movie Director Chosen Yet
Yesterday, the IMDB entry for the Halo movie was changed - with the inclusion of Uwe Boll as Director. This caused no small amount of uproar on Halo forums around the net - even sites like Joystiq speculated on whether this was true. It's not true. Joseph Staten, Halo 2's writer and the Bungie employee who is currently most involved in the movie negotiations, had this to say:

"Nope. Absolutely not true. Trust me, when we've got something big to announce about the film (such as the director), we won't just be sneaking it onto IMDB."

Hopefully, this will put the rumors to bed... thanks, Joe! (Louis Wu 21:17:12 UTC)

Suffer THIS!
That's pretty much the end of updating for the day. An internationally-attended lanfest (notables include Stuntmutt, c0ld vengeance, BOLL, and Canada's Anton P. Nym, as well as US-based folks like Ducain, Warbow, and Shishka) kicks into full gear - it's been going for a while now, but the largest number of attendees will be here today. A game of folks who wanted to make it, but couldn't, was played yesterday - hats off. We'll be back in full swing updating tomorrow - for now, enjoy your Saturday! (Louis Wu 15:42:59 UTC)

Clan News
HBO Clan news - lots of it, it seems. c0ld vengeance has decided that he doesn't have what it takes to be clan overlord for the HBO Helljumpers, and has stepped down, turning over the reins of power to BOLL. (The Helljumpers website has been hacked by the same folks who took over the forum for a short time a couple of weeks ago.) The HBO Lekgolos have become the Lord British Shishkabobs - you gotta love that new logo. (Makes 'We'll Eat Your Bones' take on a whole new meaning...) As far as I know, the Sentinels, the Spartans, and the Forerunners are just fine today. (Louis Wu 11:38:38 UTC)

Bolling for a Halo Movie
New strip over at Halo Babies... Gruntsbane makes clear his opinions of at least one possibility for a director for a Halo movie. Ouch! (Louis Wu 09:24:25 UTC)

Helljumpers in the Cutscene Library
One last bit before I leave for the day: we've got the next entry in our Cutscene Library for you. It's the Helljumpers cutscene, the beginning of Delta Halo, and there are two files: there's the cutscene itself (2:30 long), and a small composite file that shows the one change that occurs, depending on the difficulty you're playing at. It's a very short bit, so I didn't think it was worth releasing 4 separate versions of the cutscene - it made more sense to simply snip out the difference. As the Covenant guard the ancient ruins, there's a short clip where a Jackal dances in front of a Grunt - and what the Grunt is doing depends on how hard the game is for you. On Easy and Normal, he's just rubbing his hand in the dirt. On Heroic, he's playing with fire. And on Legendary, he's fiddling with what looks like a Grunt doll - maybe the fabled plushie that never got made! Thanks to BOLL for the difficulty help, and as always, thanks to Sniper 058 for getting this section started in the first place. And that - as they say - is that. I'm gone. Update: Ename nep (among others) pointed out that it's not just a Grunt doll that Grunt is playing with... his left hand is holding a Master Chief doll! Nice. (Louis Wu 16:50:30 UTC)

Odd NTSC/PAL issue
When we posted the 'Hot Pursuit' cutscene (with the Heretic escaping in a Banshee), Jillybean mentioned that whenever SHE watched the scene, the Heretic crashed into a wall before flying away. I'd never seen this - but a couple of other Europeans agreed, that's the way it was for them. This seems to be a timing issue, based on the PAL/NTSC differences. (I thought Bungie had removed that particular constraint from the game... guess I was wrong.) BOLL was kind enough to send along some footage - I've put up small versions of the PAL cutscene (QuickTime and WMP9), so you can see the difference. Weird! Update: At least two PAL users have chimed in to say that the crashing does NOT happen on their Xboxes. Bottom line - we have no idea why he crashes for some people. (Louis Wu 12:13:14 UTC)

A Whisper in the Storm
The Cutscene Library has been updated again - a bit later than intended, sorry. A Whisper in the Storm is a pretty dark scene - and as such, was tricky to convert to a watchable level. We did the best we could. (Special thanks to BOLL on this one.) Again, it's available in 4 flavors - grab the one that suits your needs (and your bandwidth) best! (Louis Wu 01:02:11 UTC)

More Panoramic Shots
That BOLL... he won't stop. We added 25 new images to the HALOrama collection of Halo 2 panoramic shots - but then he sent us another set. Since the section got featured on Xbox.com's Community page yesterday, as well, I figured it might be worth actually posting the new ones - so go take a look! (Louis Wu 17:17:55 UTC)

Halo 2 Icons Redux
A couple of weeks ago, we posted some MacOSX icons from Edwin Davis - he's now created a version for Windows. (I haven't compared them to the ones BOLL did back when we first posted these; if you're interested, you'll have to just grab them all.) They're available from Edwin's site, or from our server (368K). (Louis Wu 12:48:30 UTC)

I got a Dancin' Jones...
Hmm. A couple of days ago, Mr. Mojo Risin posted a note on our forum about a sighting of a nearly-naked Jason Jones in a cutscene in Halo 2. (Full details are in the forum post.) It wasn't until today that BOLL managed to snag a decent screenshot of this... and with the help of Tsmola, who pointed out the origin of the image, another Halo 2 egg is fully revealed. (Also, BOLL pulls down the coveted PostTacular with this news item - 4 in a day.) Warning - the thread contains story spoilers, to some degree. (Louis Wu 22:14:50 UTC)
