WorthPlaying looks at Halo PC
WorthPlaying.com put up a Halo PC preview on Friday - they got in on the gameplay we saw at IGN and GameSpot last week. 10 new screenshots, all at 1024x768 size... nice! Pretty PC-oriented (as in, anti-Xbox)... but then, it IS a PC preview, so what the heck. Heads-up came from Konrad9, on our forum. (Louis Wu 14:04:22 UTC)

IGN looks at graphics
IGN continues their Halo PC coverage with an article about Halo Graphics. (It's available to all, not just Insiders.) It includes a five-question interview with Randy Pitchford about the visuals. (They say 4, but there are 5. Weird.) Interesting tidbit - "I tend to run in 1600x1200, but the game can go higher." That's definitely new - at E3, 1600x1200 was max, and the game ran in slideshow mode at that res. Nice! Thanks to Infininja for noticing. (More Halo PC content coming tomorrow, they say.) Halo: First Strike cover art
Very nice find by Eclarap, of Halo-Game... the entry in Random House's database for Halo: First Strike (the next Halo novel, again by Eric Nylund) has been updated with what looks to be real cover art. (On the off chance it's NOT real, a local copy has been added here.) Nice! (Louis Wu 14:00:29 UTC)

Grunts first - we're smaller!
Wraith writes that Halo: Shadow Ops is up and running over at Forerunners.org. The hook? Check out the Sounds page, with 45 genuine Grunt WAV files, recorded in-game. (7mb download.) Nice! (Louis Wu 22:23:02 UTC)

CPL, Halo PC, Dallas, December - mucho cash
The CPL Winter 2003 Championships has been announced - Dallas, TX, December 16-20, 2003. Three tournaments, including a $30,000 Halo PC (team) tournament. Nice! (Thanks to kappa, who noticed it on Cached.net.) (Louis Wu 22:06:55 UTC)

Going it alone - together
Gamespot has posted a list of their choices for the top 10 cooperative games of all time. (They're not ranked among the top 10 - "They're all equal in our eyes, you might say.") Halo makes the list. Nice! Thanks to DT for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 02:48:00 UTC)

Play Halo, win a shirt
Cool details from AEG, a PR firm that works with Microsoft:

Fragmasters and gamers alike are encouraged to get in on the Halo PC action at E3 for the chance to win a coveted Halo PC T-shirt. Gamers who attend E3, the annual video game convention taking place in Los Angeles from May 14 through 16, will get the first chance to play the new Halo PC multiplayer in the Microsoft booth (#1246). Winners of each four-player match will receive a Halo PC T-shirt and earn bragging rights over their friends. The competitions will take place throughout all three exposition days.

Nice! Gonna be a lot of people running around in Halo T's... (Louis Wu 23:02:31 UTC)

Picked up a WHAT?
Now HERE'S a weird one. Stefander dropped off a short movie he made, showing a small oversight on Bungie's part. To reproduce it, you need a modded Xbox. Play the Maw right at the start - kill off the first wave of Flood that bust down the door. The second wave is just two guys - bump one (after it passes the broken door). Wander for a bit... and you might see this (1.6 mb, QT format). No graphics for the weapon... but it clearly used to be there. Nice! Credit to Goatrope, apparently, as well. Forum Update
Thanks To Ciarán Walsh, our Forum search features just became more useful. Before today, if you were looking for a specific snippet of text, you could search for that text, or you could search for the author of that text - but you couldn't do both. If you knew you were looking for a post about banshees, from, say, Red Loser... you could search for 'Red Loser', and manually check almost 800 posts... or you could search for 'banshee', and sort through almost 1300 posts. Now, however, you can search for both, and pare your results down to a manageable 54 posts. Nice! It's a simple checkbox in the Search window, and it's been added to the forum archives, as well. (If all goes well, there will be more enhancements in the not-too-distant future.) (Louis Wu 12:19:41 UTC)

More Bungie Schwag
A couple of forum threads (here and here) and an email from Broony all point out that according to the Bungie webcam, the latest offering from the Bungie store will likely be hooded sweatshirts. Nice! (Louis Wu 18:37:43 UTC)

Cool beans!
A couple of days ago, we posted a wallpaper from Lexicus, which also acted as a teaser for the trophy for a then-upcoming fragfest. The contest is now over (won by Nate)... Lexicus has sent in an image of the trophy. Nice! (Louis Wu 08:12:35 UTC)

Halo for free
In Germany, Microsoft has decided to sweeten their standard Xbox-plus-two-apps bundle with a free copy of Halo, for all bundles bought between December 11 and December 31. Nice! You can read about it at IGN Xbox. (Thanks to ragereset for the heads-up.) (Louis Wu 09:32:11 UTC)

Random Halo Sighting
op_ivy found an interesting article about a new breed of gaming center... and though no games are mentioned by name, the mockup of what the place will look like has a huge (and I mean HUGE) wallscreen showing... Halo. Nice! (Louis Wu 15:28:09 UTC)

Look! Up in the Road! A Head!
ThetaDot sent in a rendering of the MC's helmet. He never finished the rest of the body (or, indeed, the helmet), but what's there is pretty nice! Check it out in our Miscellaneous Art section. (Louis Wu 10:25:53 UTC)

True, True
Halo in your local pub? Narcogen, of Rampancy.net, found an interesting article describing a new marketing deal between Microsoft and Anheuser-Busch which will get Xboxes into bars. Promotional schwag, including Xboxes, will be given away during the initial phase. Nice! (Louis Wu 12:21:02 UTC)

G4 highlights on the web, someday
Whoa, very cool - Jester, over at psyjnir.com, contacted G4 Media, the folks who filmed the Halo National Championship finals... and G4 is intending to release a highlights film on the web, at some point. Nice! (Louis Wu 17:51:06 UTC)

New Truth and Recon content
Mnemesis is just full of it today... good info, that is. He spotted a couple of new entries at Bungie's Tru7h and Reconciliation site - the next level of their Halo Legendary Walkthrough (this time done by Dave Candland), and a new desktop, based on the T-Shirt logo. (It's the very bottom entry at the moment.) Nice! (Louis Wu 20:56:20 UTC)

New Wallpaper Built
Xcruiser has created a new desktop image, using some of the extra features of the Halo Font submitted recently. The shield and Font were created from scratch - and they look pretty nice! He's said he's happy to create other sizes of this, if there are requests - just send 'em to him. Meanwhile, check out the piece in our Wallpaper section. (Louis Wu 09:20:50 UTC)

PoA... for C-S
A month and a half ago, bikeman704 submitted a rendering of the Halo pelican in a Counter-Strike format... today, he brings you two screens of a level based on the Pillar of Autumn. You'll find 'em in our Miscellaneous Art section. Nice! (Louis Wu 15:38:07 UTC)

Japanese Halo site up - nice!
Nice find by protexts... The Official Japanese Halo site is up, and it's not simply a copy of the US site (as so many others are). Nice Flash layout, nice music, good screenies (if a bit too small). Now if only I could read Japanese... (Louis Wu 10:23:03 UTC)

Legendary Walkthrough of PoA posted
Whoa. No7orious has written a Legendary Walkthrough for the first level of the game, Pillar of Autumn... and Bungie liked it enough that they put it up at their Tru7h and Reconciliation site (along with 25 screenshots illustrating some of the finer points). Very nice! Check it out if you're having your... um, head handed to you on a platter when trying to play through this level on Legendary. (And as Yeroen says in this news item, maybe this will start a trend!) Thanks to Acrappa, of Rampancy.net, for pointing this puppy out. (Louis Wu 01:12:56 UTC)

Detail rundown at Xbox365
Xbox365 ranks vehicles, weapons, and baddies in Halo (in lieu of a review) - don't read the baddies list if you're paranoid about spoilers, but mostly it's safe. The headline sums up their attitude about Halo: 'I Lost A Week To A Starship Trooper'. Nice! (Thanks to Narcogen, at Rampancy.net, for uncovering this. (Louis Wu 10:08:04 UTC)
