HBO Needs Your Help!
So one of the things I did at PAX last weekend was to collect a few signed prints, for folks who weren't able to make it to the show. I snagged a total of 25 prints - 23 of them are signed (some by multiple people). I just need some help in coming up with ideas about how to give them away! We could do the random thing, but that's dull. And there are enough that a single 'skill' contest (art, or music, or whatever) would be silly - but multiple contests would be WAY too much work for me. So... any suggestions for fun ways to give these away? Post your ideas here! (Louis Wu 16:25:25 UTC)

Halo 3 Mishaps - lots of 'em
A discussion a couple of days ago over on the NeoGAF forums turned up a few interesting 'mishap' vids created by MiniWaz - they're not that new, but they're a lot of fun. Some lag, some silly mistakes - good watching. You can find a large two-parter on YouTube (Part 1 | Part 2), and a smaller (just under 5 minutes) montage on GameVee. Always fun to watch WTF moments! Hail to the Chief
Spartanx5 noticed an article on IGN that comes up with their Top 10 reasons Halo 3 is Back on Top (of the Xbox LIVE leaderboards). Some are silly, some are solid. Check 'em out! (Louis Wu 10:14:30 UTC)

Deus Ex Machina - um, the next part
DigitalPh33r has posted Deus Ex Machina Episode 9 - "Doomstay (Part 2 of 2)" Act 3 (yes, the numbering's getting a little silly) - John's fight against his robot duplicate comes to a head... and he meets up with an old nemesis. Thanks, Mags89 SBG. (Louis Wu 12:08:16 UTC)

Maxim says we have a hero.
xupaosso found a slideshow on Maxim (pages aren't SFW) showing off their choices for The Greatest Video Game Heroes of All Time. Master Chief is on the list. Update: oops... this is OLD. (I thought it was old when I saw it - but I didn't find the original, so I assumed it was faulty memory. Silly me.) Thanks, J23. (Louis Wu 09:53:36 UTC)

Anybody want a Halo 3 HotPocket?
Okay, this is just silly. Hawty McBloggy found an auction on eBay where someone's selling a donut hole that looks like a Master Chief helmet. Well... it's SUPPOSED to look like a Master Chief helmet. (I don't see it, myself. Looks like a Dunkin Munchkin. Munchkins cost about a quarter each. Remember that when you realize that starting bid on this puppy is $25 with shipping.) People will sell anything... (Louis Wu 12:23:36 UTC)

Stiched
FireDragon04 sent word of Stiched (not a typo) - a bunch of silly skits and lots of teabagging. He's looking for feedback - leave a comment! (Louis Wu 14:27:09 UTC)

More DixieLAN Jazz
A few days ago, we mentioned a thread with writeups from pooberry's DixieLAN event - pooberry added his own yesterday, but since he started a new thread, I feel obliged to point it out again. Silly man... but a silly man with an overactive camera. LOTS of pics. (Louis Wu 14:12:20 UTC)

Marathon Man Ep 6: DoomsDrake
Sniper2477 is back with another episode of Marathon Man - this one is called 'DoomsDrake', and is ostensibly the last in the series. Once again, the story's a bit week, and (again) there's at least one gratuitously silly scene, but in general, the filming is well-done, and the action at the end is nice. (Louis Wu 13:11:46 UTC)

Marathon Man - A New Beginning
Sniper2477 stopped by to announce Marathon Man - "A New Beginning", the latest episode of his ongoing machinima. I had a little trouble with the story, and one gratuitously silly scene, but otherwise a fine effort. (Louis Wu 15:37:36 UTC)

Monochromatic.
Crap. It's been one of those days. I nearly forgot to post today's Another Halo Comic Strip entry - which is silly, because I talked to ZZoMBiE13 about it this morning. Anyway, it's funny, and you should go read it. (Louis Wu 22:48:12 UTC)

The Heart of Dorkness
Digikid pointed out that Spriggs Episode 7 has been released; currently there's only a DivX download available, but more is coming. 16 minutes, 87 mb, the story is getting far more coherent. (No less silly - but that's not necessarily a bad thing.) Go watch! (Louis Wu 01:13:26 UTC)

Spriggs: Unloaded
Digikid let us know that Spriggs Episode 6 is up for grabs. I gotta say... it seems like it's getting pretty silly. Maybe I'm just having an off day, though. Watch it for yourself. (Louis Wu 17:09:46 UTC)

How long does a 'best of' take?
gloob.tv put together what they call the 'Best Fan-Made Halo 3 Videos' (seems sort of silly, given that the game's only been out for 4 months, but...). Go see what they've picked. (Nice collection, actually.) (Louis Wu 13:35:03 UTC)

Don't cut yourself.
Bah. Hawty McBloggy sent this to me last night - somehow I forgot about it. Which is silly, because it's pretty darned cool. She found a stainless steel Energy Sword on eBay - starting bid is $125, and there are 6 days left in the auction. It looks pretty deadly! (Louis Wu 18:54:10 UTC)

A.I. - Artificial Ignorance
Many people have complained about some of the silly behavior that your marines engage in when battling alongside you in the Halo 3 campaign. But has anyone actually thought about what this means for the Master Chief? I mean not YOU... but MC? Well, ZZoMBiE13 has. Check out today's ep of Another Halo Comic Strip. (Louis Wu 21:11:19 UTC)

RHC Apocalypse
Leader of Blind let us know that Abyss Studios has released RHC Apocalypse - you can watch it on their site, download it from Mythica, or stream it from YouTube. It's five minutes of tiny clips (plus two minutes of credits) - many are silly, but they're all short, and some are pretty funny. (The 'Will It Blend?' parody made me laugh.) Go watch! Show me the money.
Narcogen found a story at Kotaku about a really, REALLY ugly Halo-branded shoe... and speculates that absurd licensing deals might be the rationale behind Microsoft's allowing Bungie to become independent. After all, if Bungie were still fully in control of the Halo IP, would they ever allow the Halo name to be attached to this silly-looking sneaker? Update: Mikey-san points out that the shoe featured in that Kotaku article is fan-made; it's not an official Nike - or Microsoft-endorsed - product. (It was created by a guy who goes by the nick Rebelaire; he's made a number of custom shoes.) While Narc's general point (that it's possible that Microsoft was willing to let Bungie become independent because it meant they could sell the hell out of the Halo name) is valid... this isn't a great example of it. Der Berliner Mauer
Leader of Blind sent us links to a movie he and AxS Kamikaze made for school, about the fall of the Berlin Wall. It's pretty silly, but has a few fun moments. You can watch it at YouTube, or download it from Mythica. (Louis Wu 17:40:39 UTC)

Hat Trick.
Bungie has taken to awarding the Recon Helmet to people who make them happy. This has led to people doing all sorts of silly things to try and make Bungie happy. (This will never work; they've said, very clearly, that the easiest way NOT to get the helmet is to ask for it.) Stuntmutt looks at this bizarre phenomenon in today's One One Se7en. Halo Repair
1UP has revisited an article from 2005 which discussed the ways in which Halo 2 'was broken'. They looked at the charges leveled in that piece against Halo 2, to see whether they were addressed in Halo 3. The upshot? According to 1UP, Bungie fixed most of what was supposedly wrong in 2005 - but broke a bunch of new stuff. Interesting sidenote - when that article was first published, I was significantly less dispassionate about it than I usually am about news bits; it seems that it actually offended me. (I actually lost respect for 1UP when they published it, because I didn't think it deserved the space it got.) Unfortunately... some of the new complaints are just as silly as the old ones. I'll agree with them on the spawn point issues, but the rest of the second page seemed like filler material. Thanks to Narcogen, at Rampancy.net, for finding this. (Louis Wu 19:30:38 UTC)

Joe Staten talks about Contact Harvest
IGN has a podcast called 'Three Red Lights' - Episode 12 contains an interview with Joe Staten, about Contact Harvest (which is officially released today, don't forget!). The interview kicks off about 53 minutes into the podcast, and has a lot of info about the book and how it was written. There are some silly questions ("While you were writing it, were you working close with the guys at Bungie?"), but mostly it's a pretty interesting interview. Go listen! I found out about this at Planet Halo. (Louis Wu 15:57:39 UTC)

And it doesn't make me breakfast, either.
I just love articles like this one: MyGEN (an Australian gaming site) put up the "Top 10 Things Bungie Screwed UP with Halo 3". After stating that "in no way are we anti-halo or anti-Bungie", they go on to complain about stuff like glitches in Bungie.net site integration and weapons nerfing with comments like "they honestly plain old suck", "collision detection is shocking", "shoddy net code", and "bungie totally screwed it up". Yeah, that's definitely the sort of language I use when I'm trying to provide constructive criticism to a company I love. While some of their points have merit, many of the complaints are downright silly; it's hard to take any of it seriously when they complain that in the two weeks since Bungie announced it's separating from Microsoft, "we have not seen a single improvement to the reliability of matchmaking or their website." I hesitated posting this since it seems to be designed more to generate web traffic than to actually discuss problems with the game... I found this at N4G. (Louis Wu 17:04:32 UTC)
