They're back with a second episode of their newest series, 'Selfies in the War Zone' - and the guest this time out is Pete Cooper, superfan whose biggest claim to fame is a full-size Warthog he built for a live action Halo video. He talks about Telekos Protocol and Drone, two graphic novel series he's been building for a few years. It's a great discussion, and Damian Lacedamian shows that the format still works wonderfully! Check it out. (Louis Wu 20:34:16 UTC)
September 30, 2014 Link to this post Selfies in the War Zone kicks off with Zombies We got word from DamianLacedamian - This Spartan Life, a staple of the Halo scene in the Halo 2/Halo 3 days, is back! The newest season is called 'Selfies in the War Zone', and the first episode has an interview with Arthur Suydam, a cover artist for a number of Marvel titles. (It also has an interview, of sorts, with David Cross...) Go watch! (Louis Wu 20:14:45 UTC)
April 21, 2012 Link to this post This Spartan Life Episode 7 An old friend has returned! This Spartan Life has been quiet for a bit (the last episode came out just under a year ago) - but they're back with Episode 7! Today's interview is with Tiffiniy Cheng, co-founder of Fight for the Future, and one of the organizers of the January internet blackout to protest SOPA and PIPA. It's a fascinating discussion - but Fyb3roptik is not participating, because he's out hunting Lt. Minderbinder (and trying to stay alive). A little something for everyone! Go watch. It's not often that Halo machinima is combined with sophisticated political discussion. (Tom Van Sinden 19:50:01 UTC)
May 24, 2011 Link to this post Cause I'm Skeeeee, Skee-ballin'! Don't forget to check out Waypoint today, where you'll find an awesome new episode of This Spartan Life, featuring masters of the Forge. Our very own pete the duck is highlighted, who also brought it to our attention. Awesome stuff, go look! (GrimBrother One 14:56:28 UTC)
March 14, 2011 Link to this post TSL: Extending the Agony of Success
Achievement Hunter's Geoff and Jack hung out with This Spartan Life's Damian Lacedamian - the resulting 10 minute interview is up on Halo: Waypoint's website (thanks, pete_the_duck, who's also in the movie). Great talk, great challenges (they're playing TSL, not HORSE) - go watch! (Louis Wu 13:29:42 UTC)
January 9, 2011 Link to this post Waypoint - it's what's for dinner So I don't know how many of you have Halo Waypoint's website on your regular visit list... but if you're a Halo fan, you really should. As usual, there's a Weekly Wrap-Up post that lists all the goodies they've posted this week (highlights from there, for me, included the Cryptum Glossary Update (really useful for this content-rich novel), the Master Chief Pyrography (Kassie's got way more skillz than me!), and the MC Sneakers (gawjuss). There's plenty of other stuff there, though, that doesn't make the roundups - Chris Burke covered the World Cyber Games Holiday Heroes tournament, and (as This Spartan Life's Damian Lacedamian) interviewed Frank O'Connor and bs angel. Mr. Vociferous returned to his Vintage Fisticuffs series, with a piece called Grand Canyon, looking back at Halo's Two Betrayals level and a critical battle therein. (Glorious.) And Chairleg Productions (search our news for some of their past work) focused on the question "Should Games be Considered Art?" - the resulting video is a really fun 8 minutes. This is really just a small sample of what they've offered in the past week or so - so go explore! (Louis Wu 23:14:33 UTC)
November 21, 2010 Link to this post Catching Up with Halo Waypoint If you haven't been to the Halo Waypoint website recently, you've been missing a ton of stuff! First, let's cover the exclusive content you won't find elsewhere:
- Their latest Community Outreach video features Damian Lacedaemion and Fib3roptik, from This Spartan Life. They talk about what they do and what they like about Reach while killing grunts with rockets on Outpost. Fun!
- A Different Way to Campaign continues with 'Boarding Action' - how many Banshees can you board in a row? I remember people trying stuff like this in Halo 2... seems MUCH more dangerous now.
- The Arbiter, Part 1 gives you an overview of one of the central figures of Halo 2 (and an important character in Halo 3, as well) - if you raced through the games, this will help you understand what you missed.
When you're through with those, bs angel has done a marvelous job of summarizing the latest fan-created content Waypoint's highlighted over the past week - here are some juicy tidbits:
- The Waypoint Wringer highlights the woman who wore Kat armor to PAX 2010 - go check out the person under the plating!
- The Halo: Reach Map of the Week is 'Donkey Kong' - I'm not sure I understand how it works, but it looks rather insane!
- Frack19 built an Elite costume which looks pretty scary!
There's other stuff in there - go explore!

September 29, 2010 Link to this post TSL needs your help!
This Spartan Life's Fyb3roptik has got a Noble 6 Helmet Avatar code to give away - all you have to do is come up with an interesting backstory for why one of the characters' voices changed in the TSL series. Read the post for full details!

September 15, 2010 Link to this post TSL Blog Interview: pete_the_duck
pete_the_duck let us know that Damian Lacedamian posted a 4-minute interview with him on This Spartan Life's blog - it's talking about the map he made for the Waypoint interview TSL did with the band OK Go. Pretty fun interview! Watch it to see how pete_the_duck built that great Rube Goldberg map! (Louis Wu 20:48:01 UTC)
September 11, 2010 Link to this post This Spartan Life: Todd McFarlane
GLYPH let us know that he's put the most recent This Spartan Life interview, where Damian talks to Todd McFarlane, is up on YouTube (they're still working a few small glitches with the new Waypoint delivery system, and didn't want us to have to wait). Great conversation about action figures, fan creativity, and Spartan infidelity! Go listen.

July 11, 2010 Link to this post TSL Interviews OK Go As mentioned in the recent Podtacular episode with Chris Burke, This Spartan Life's interview with OK Go went live on Halo Waypoint yesterday. It's a fantastic discussion of the creative process, and how that's changing with social networking... but the highlight of the video, for me at least, was a spectacular merging of a cool remix of OK Go's 'This Too Shall Pass' with an incredible Rube-Goldberg map created by our very own pete_the_duck. If you've got a LIVE Gold account, go visit Waypoint - this one isn't to be missed. If you want to discuss this, Hedgemony started a thread on our forum. (His title, 'Pete the duck rulz!' is a direct quote from the video.) (Louis Wu 15:33:17 UTC)

If you visit Halo Waypoint on Xbox LIVE today, you can see a new episode of This Spartan Life - this one has Damian Lacedamian making me sound much better than I normally would. Cool community maps, too! Thanks to DEEP NNN for the reminder. (Louis Wu 15:25:15 UTC)

April 14, 2010 Link to this post TSL Rube Goldberg Machine Contest This Spartan Life has some interviews coming out soon, to be shown on Halo Waypoint - and they need your help! One of the upcoming episodes needs a Rube Goldberg map to serve as a set. You've got a bit under two weeks to submit your entry, and the winner (and a couple of runners-up) will win cool schwag, courtesy of the Waypoint crew. Read the TSL newspost for details on what they need - and get cracking! (Louis Wu 20:33:18 UTC)
October 16, 2009 Link to this post This Spartan Life - win a dream date with Amber!
Damian Lacedaemion is back with This Spartan Life - they're looking to raise some money by offering (virtual) dates with TSL cast members (Solid Gold Dancer Amber, Fyb3roptik and MC Aero are all on the menu) for those who enter a raffle. Swing by Kickstarter for a video that explains all the details - and help keep TSL online! (They're looking to raise $5,000 by November 15, so visit soon.) (Louis Wu 14:27:01 UTC)
September 21, 2009 Link to this post This Spartan Life - at PICNIC 09 It looks like This Spartan Life will be conducting a 'live' interview, on stage at the PICNIC 09 festival in Amsterdam this week. (I'm not 100% sure what that means - but it seems that Chris Burke and his guest, Dr. Gerri Sinclair, CEO of the Centre for Digital Media in Vancouver, will be on the stage, and Halo 3 - with their characters in it - will be on the giant screen behind them.) If you're near Amsterdam... check it out, and let us know how it goes! (Louis Wu 15:53:56 UTC)
July 19, 2009 Link to this post This Spartan Life Episode 6
It's been a long time since we've heard from Chris Burke, and the machinima series 'This Spartan Life' - but Episode 6 has been released, in advance of the completion of Episode 5. (Sometimes these things happen.) The guest is Katie Salen, who works on game design (you can read more about her here), and the interview, interspersed with TSL's normal wackiness, is pretty interesting. It's 14 minutes long - swing by and watch! (QuickTime version is up now, WMV should be available in short order.) Chris is still working on finishing up Episode 5 - he's run into some snags with Microsoft licensing. Here's hoping they get worked out soon!

July 8, 2009 Link to this post This Spartan Community Podcast This Spartan Life was a machinima series that featured largely in the Halo community scene a few years ago, but we haven't heard a lot from them recently. Its community has decided to put together a podcast - and the first episode is online now. Thanks, Eaite Randjam. (Louis Wu 19:48:26 UTC)
March 12, 2009 Link to this post This Spartan Life - Coming (Back) Soon!
It's been a while since we've heard from This Spartan Life - but they're coming back! There's a new trailer up on their website, showing off their unique combination of interesting interviews and... well, bullets to the head. Thanks to finalcutmin for noticing! (Louis Wu 12:17:19 UTC)
November 4, 2008 Link to this post 2008 Mackies
This weekend, the Machinima Filmfest 2008 was held in New York City, and the Mackies were awarded to the best films. Although a number of Halo works were nominated (we mentioned them last month), only one came home with an award - congrats to This Spartan Life, winner of Best Series! (Louis Wu 16:09:14 UTC)
October 9, 2008 Link to this post Machinima Film Festival Nominations
Sgt_Hartsock let us know that This Spartan Life has been nominated for two Mackies (the Machinima Film Festival awards) - it's up for Best Series, and Best Original Music. If you want to learn more, he's set up a club for the show at 1UP.com. Other Halo content up for Mackies this year: Smooth Few Films' Bag Boy (we mentioned it in February) has been nominated for Best Short Format, Best Voice Acting, and Best Writing, and Without Providence (a film I'd never seen, but which you can find on the DouGroup's website) is up for Best Cinematography. (Jonathan Quail, which used to be hosted at GamingTV, received an Honorable Mention in that category.) Blackstone [Log 1], from Dispatch Films (we mentioned it in July) is up for Best Sound Design and Best Editing. And finally, Campaign Episode 1, from William Urbina (another new one for me) received an Honorable Mention in the Best Editing category.

June 18, 2008 Link to this post Machinima in Australia
Sgt. Hartsock was proud of the fact that his portrait of the 'This Spartan Life' crew was used in a Kotaku Australia story about the Machinima Film Festival that took place a couple of days ago in Melbourne. Lots of Halo content discussed there! (Rooster Teeth's Burnie Burns and TSL's Chris Burke, both of whom participated in a number of panels at that festival, are in Sydney tonight for the Sydney Film Festival, as well.) (Louis Wu 12:08:31 UTC)
February 13, 2008 Link to this post Virtual Puppetry
1UP.com has focused on Chris Burke, the guy behind This Spartan Life, in their latest installment of 'Take this Job!', a guide to finding jobs in the games industry. Go see how and why he does it! (Louis Wu 15:04:09 UTC)
