Important Contact Info
We get news in a bunch of ways - we find it on outside sites, folks post it in our forum, folks mail it to bungie.org email addresses. It's really important, though, that for the first two weeks of August, that you do not send email to the lwu address. It will not be read with any consistency (maybe not at all) between August 1 and August 15. Someone reported that they weren't able to mail to the halo@bungie.org address - if this happens again, you should post news in our forum. Halo pops up in lots of places
Anthony Vaccaro, who worked as an environment artist on Halo: Reach (and now works at Naughty Dog) started a thread on Polycount about a workshop he's going to be teaching, showing how to create game environments using modular assets. Halo 4 LE Console Custom Sounds, from Major Nelson
If you watched all the 343 panels from SDCC, you saw Kiki Wolfkill turn on the Halo 4 LE Console, and you MIGHT have heard the sounds that the console makes when you turn on the console, and when you eject a disc. (Adding these custom sounds to consoles started with the Reach console a couple of years ago - a nice little touch.) In yesterday's podcast from Major Nelson, these sounds were played in high-quality. If you just want to hear the sounds themselves, fast-forward to 1:09:44 in his podcast. If you would like a little bit of context (and a reminder of what you're about to hear), start a bit sooner (maybe around 1:09:10 or so). Thanks to Hypertrooper for pointing this out! Update: If you're too lazy to scrub through a long mp3 file, Legend from HaloBase tells us that he's put just the sounds themselves online in a YouTube video. (It's still 10 times longer than it has to be; it's 23 seconds long, while the sounds are about a second each... but hey, that's way better than a couple of hours!) Postmortem noticed an interesting thing - Ayelet Zurer, who plays Major Mehaffey in Forward Unto Dawn, seems to have also played a part in the 'Remember Reach' commercials released in the summer of 2010 to promote the upcoming Halo: Reach. (The character in the commercial was never named, but it's really, really unlikely that there's supposed to be a tie-in; after all, the two in-universe events are decades apart. High-quality Haven Gameplay Video
Inside Gaming seemed to get some direct feed footage (Part 1 | Part 2) from the after-hours Halo 4 event at SDCC - the gameplay leaves a bit to be desired, but the quality of the video is light-years above all of the off-center, offscreen footage we've seen this week. Telikos Protocol Needs You
This is completely non-Halo-related, but it's a new Kickstarter project from a Halo fan with some deep roots in our community, and it looks pretty amazing to boot, so we're tossing in some love. Pete Cooper stopped in to let us know that he and artist Adam Burn are working on a graphic novel they call Telikos Protocol. If you visit the Kickstarter page, you can see a bunch of the artwork (astounding) and a video explaining how they hope the project will work. They're looking to raise $9500, and one day in, they're more than a quarter of the way there. (That should tell you something about the enthusiasm of the project's fans!) Pete's good people, and this project looks spectacular; if you've got a few bucks, toss 'em into the pot! If they don't reach their goal, you're not out a penny. RTX Day 1 Halo 4 Roundup
Yesterday was CHOCK-FULL of goodies from RTX. Let's see if I can summarize what's out there:

• The RTX Live Feed has archived most of the Halo 4 stuff - unfortunately, it's not all separated. This video (which is 7 and a half hours long) contains the HORSE competition starting around 5:10:40, some convention shenanigans at 6:40:30, and the Rooster Teeth vs the Community Halo 4 matches at 6:51:00.
• Those last two matches were actually pulled out into this video, as well.
• A fan did a really nice job of putting up the 343 Panel (including Forge), the PIG competition, and the Q&A with the audience in a YouTube video.
• The same fan captured the second of the two community games, also on YouTube.
• Bravo posted a live commentary vid on some Infinity Slayer on Haven - thanks, CyReN.
• A fan captured a full FFA game on Adrift (offscreen) in two parts (1 | 2) - thanks again, CyReN.
• The Halo Forge Epidemic put up a group impressions video of the new Forge reveal - if you're looking for comments from folks who use this stuff every day, watch this. Thanks, Gabotron ES.

The video summarizes a bunch of the tidbits and notes that Bravo had been wanting to get out there that he just hadn't gotten to (and then does some nice commentary on a game that Neighbor played at E3). wwm0nkey pointed out where Microsoft is hosting the music file that goes with the Expertzone quiz found recently; if you have trouble reading .ogg files, I've converted it to .mp3 for your convenience. Method Studios, the FX house behind the Halo: Reach 'Deliver Hope' dazzle, was tapped again for the live-action Halo 4 trailer that showed at E3 this year - and if you swing by their website, you'll find a fantastic summary of the process of building that trailer.
