This Spartan Life: Travelogue
Swing by This Spartan Life for Episode 3, Module 2: Travelogue. It's a really quick overview of some glitches accessible in Halo 2 levels. If you're a regular at High Impact Halo, you won't see anything new - but the composition is quite nice. There's another new ep coming soon, as well! (Louis Wu 19:08:42 UTC)

MLG NYC Pics
Nice. MLGPro.com has put up a gallery of photos from last weekend's National Championships; 434 pics of people playing Halo. Go look. Thanks, 3Suns. (Louis Wu 23:27:16 UTC)

Four on One
After Stat wrote to point out a video over at Final Supremacy - it's called 'Four on One', and is exactly that - a nicely filmed game of slayer on Lockout, where all of the Blue team except for one quit at the start. I'm not sure where it goes - the resolution isn't nearly as clearcut as I'd expected it to be... but the angles are nice. 67 mb, in MPEG1 format. (Louis Wu 17:00:20 UTC)

Blow Me Away Nets Ten K
Had to head out for a couple of hours... and now it's all over but the shouting. (Well, the paying, I guess.) You guys rock: the items for the Blow Me Away charity auction went for a total of $11,717.97, which means you guys are contributing over $10,000 to the American Red Cross hurricane relief effort (as well as taking home some pretty cool schwag). A really cool side note is that almost half of the money has ALREADY BEEN PAID. Nice. As soon as I have information from Bungie about shipping, the winners will be notified with details... congrats to all! (Louis Wu 19:03:00 UTC)

Peter Jackson at X05 - now at GT
Nice. The taped Peter Jackson speech about how excited he is to be a part of the Halo movie, shown at X05 last week, is now available at GameTrailers.com - it's the same clip as JeuxFrance was serving, except without the JF watermark. You can grab it in QuickTime or WMP9 formats. Thanks, Mr.Cynical. (Louis Wu 20:53:51 UTC)

More Schwag for your Bucks
In an effort to help the free-market economy keep the money flowing, Bungie has updated their Store with some new merchandise. A carabiner keychain, and four new shirts. Of particular note is a very old-school Marathon shirt, faithfully re-created by Shishka. Nice. Check it all out! (mnemesis 18:41:15 UTC)

Nightmare Armor Update, Too
Wow, timing - we just got mail from Sid Garrand, of Nightmare Armor; there's news of their work in 2 upcoming movies (2006 and 2007, he says... intriguing!), but also new shots of their armor [deleted] Update: I'm not sure I would have posted these pictures had I known that Nightmare Armor has been served with a Cease and Desist order from Microsoft, with various legal followup pending, for unauthorized use of Halo intellectual property. Not sure how this is going to play out - but it sure seems like there might be problems! Update 2: Nice. Now I've been threatened with legal action from Sid for putting up this post. The pics are gone - I guess this is the last time Nightmare Armor will be mentioned here. Folks, remember - we're a fansite. We're really not interested in getting in the middle of your legal troubles... if the news you send is is going to cause you (or us) headaches, do us both a favor and don't send it. Red vs Blue Soundboard
HitManBobster pointed out a Red vs Blue Soundboard at AlbinoBlackSheep - clips from the various characters in the series, set up in Flash. Sound quality is lacking, but the organization is nice. (Louis Wu 17:50:15 UTC)

Seeker Firefox Plugin
Very nice. Prometheus has posted a Firefox plugin for Seeker, 3of9's new Halo-specific search engine. If you use FIrefox, now you can Seek right from the search bar! (Louis Wu 16:35:10 UTC)

Now that just ROCKS.
Shishka, covering for the missing Sketch and Frankie, has posted not one, not two, but THREE gorgeous 3D screenshots of Terminal - you'll need QuickTime to see these, but oh, they're so very nice. I'm loving the last one. Shishka, fresh off a victorious sword lunge, is about to become winshield splatter. w00t! (We got this first from B.net itself, but thanks anyway to 3Suns for the email heads-up.) (Louis Wu 23:20:15 UTC)

GGZ Post New Movies
Dennis Powers points out two movies at Gearbox Game Zone - the first is called 'They said it was impossible', and it takes a look at HaloCE, and shows what's been possible with it. (This might have been prettier had it been filmed on a machine with a more powerful graphics card - but the composition is quite nice.) Available in both WMP9 and QuickTime, 25-37 mb. The second is Halo Tron 2.01, a remake of Tron with some help from the Halo engine. Interesting idea! Again, WMP9 and QuickTime formats, 29.7 mb each. Go watch! (Louis Wu 10:48:40 UTC)

Wonderboy - again
Hehe. In mid-March, we put up a copy of a Halo 2 vid telling the story of Wonderboy, Tenacious D's mythical hero. It was the second Wonderboy vid we'd posted; the first went up in mid-2003. Now, there's a third. Team Legacy Productions has put together their OWN version... timing's quite nice. You can grab a WMP9 version (14.8 mb) or a QuickTime version (14.5 mb). Let the Wonderboy competition commence! (Louis Wu 14:57:51 UTC)

Searching has never been easier.
Hehe - nice. prometheus has whipped up a Firefox plugin that lets you search HBO's news archive right from your browser's search box! We're flattered. (Well, okay, I'm flattered. I can't imagine the rest of the staff cares.) If you use Firefox, grab this! (Louis Wu 20:03:02 UTC)

Wow, nice. CrowPath has written up a really nice tutorial on bumpmapping in Halo CE - the first 3 parts of the five-part tutorial are online now, with the last two coming soon. Check it out! Thanks, MasterGrief. (Louis Wu 23:05:14 UTC)

US Army vs Bungie - no contest
For some odd reason, it's not on Bungie.net yet... but an hour ago, Frankie posted a note on our forum pointing out a new Halo Humpday Challenge writeup. Bungie played the US Army... and lost pretty badly. Well, they actually lost pretty gracefully, if you read the writeup - they were beaten by a huge margin, but (in Frankie's words) 'in a strangely acceptable way'. Nice. (For what it's worth, these games were found this morning - and identified as Humpday Challenge games - by folks using the awesome power of the B.net stats system.) (Louis Wu 03:01:47 UTC)

A prize worth putting on the shelf
goweb reminded me that I neglected to post a note about a cool prize won by Flashman in a contest over at Xbox Resource. Very nice... he's not TOUCHING the wrapping on that! (Louis Wu 10:34:41 UTC)

Trained Monkeys and Tree Frogs
Bungie has posted the next in its ongoing series of Weekly What's Updates at Bungie.net. A long answer to the 'why is cheating so rampant?' question (but one that probably won't assuage the most angry among the players), along with a bunch of other stuff. One rumor we neglected to report this week was that Halo was being created for the Gizmondo - it seemed a little too far out there to dignify. Turns out that assessment was correct. There's some stuff about downloadable content (though nothing about WHEN to expect it). There are a bunch of questions that anyone who can find a FAQ link should already know the answer to (but then, evidence shows that that's not a huge percentage of those online). There's a solid answer to the question 'how come I can't have black armor in MP?', which is nice. And there's the scariest Mister Chief artwork I've seen yet - and that includes the bug-eyed thing from a couple of weeks back. Go read! (Louis Wu 04:53:06 UTC)

Helljumpers in the Cutscene Library
One last bit before I leave for the day: we've got the next entry in our Cutscene Library for you. It's the Helljumpers cutscene, the beginning of Delta Halo, and there are two files: there's the cutscene itself (2:30 long), and a small composite file that shows the one change that occurs, depending on the difficulty you're playing at. It's a very short bit, so I didn't think it was worth releasing 4 separate versions of the cutscene - it made more sense to simply snip out the difference. As the Covenant guard the ancient ruins, there's a short clip where a Jackal dances in front of a Grunt - and what the Grunt is doing depends on how hard the game is for you. On Easy and Normal, he's just rubbing his hand in the dirt. On Heroic, he's playing with fire. And on Legendary, he's fiddling with what looks like a Grunt doll - maybe the fabled plushie that never got made! Thanks to BOLL for the difficulty help, and as always, thanks to Sniper 058 for getting this section started in the first place. And that - as they say - is that. I'm gone. Update: Ename nep (among others) pointed out that it's not just a Grunt doll that Grunt is playing with... his left hand is holding a Master Chief doll! Nice. (Louis Wu 16:50:30 UTC)

Master Chief: Hero Final
Very nice. there's a new image over at DeviantART, created by Pinkuh - the Master Chief, saving a small girl (or using her as a human shield, if you read some of the more cynical posts on our forum). Great work. Thanks to SEspider for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 14:49:47 UTC)

Kiss It Goodbye.
Nice. Mackenzie noticed that if you drop the bomb when playing Bomb Assault, you can see one of several messages written across the bottom of it. BOLL was kind enough to snap pictures of four of these. Most of the rest of the thread is a debate about whether or not this constitutes an easter egg in Halo 2 or is just detail... I'm inclined to go with 'egg', simply because of the humor value of the messages. In any case, though, it's pretty interesting. Take a look! (Louis Wu 01:01:26 UTC)

Third Person View, FOV Increase
Wow, nice. Over on the Gearbox forums, bitterbanana has released a mod that works with both HaloCE and HaloPC - it expands your field of view (works nicely on widescreen monitors) and lets you view yourself from behind (third-person camera). Nice! Thanks, VerdaFolio. (Louis Wu 14:45:33 UTC)

Maclean's looks at Halo 2
Bah. ferory sent in a scan of the September 20th issue of Canadian Weekly magazine Maclean's this weekend - I forgot to put it up. It's up now in our Press Scans area. A one-pager on Halo 2 - in a pretty mainstream magazine! Nice. (Louis Wu 19:50:38 UTC)
