Going to CPL Summer Event? Play Halo PC!
Nice. Gearbox has announced that they'll be running a team competition during their workshop at the CPL Summer Event - if you're a registered attendee, you can play 5-on-5 Halo PC from 2-5 pm on August 2 against Gearbox and Bungie employees, with the chance to win prizes from Gearbox, Bungie, and NVIDIA. Props to kappa, who noticed a writeup at cached.net. (Louis Wu 17:55:22 UTC)

More new Halo PC footage - this time at IGN
Not to be outdone, IGN has put up a Halo PC preview as well. It's not 5 small clips - it's one mongo one, and it's only available to insiders. It comes in two flavors (400x300 QT, 84 mb and 320x240 QT, 55 mb), and it's 5:29 long. It's not all multiplayer footage - it's about half solo play, with a voiceover explaining why you're gonna want this puppy. (There are spoilers for those still keeping track.) The gameplay itself is great to see... but the info in the voiceover is also really, really nice. (Minimum specs for PC Halo as of now: 733-800 MHz PIII and a GeForce2. Definitely easily attainable - though don't expect to see the cool pixelshading effects he was pointing out if you run it on the minimum box.) They recorded this themselves, today - so the footage is totally different from what Gamespot is offering. Thanks to Infininja for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 02:41:03 UTC)

Super Death what?
It's bizarre... but it's small, so what the heck. synide created a sub-4mb movie (QuickTime format, now), showing (in his words, mind you) 'super death drop bomb melee charlie in the trees type stuff'. Timing's pretty nice. Check it out. (You may have to watch it a couple of times; there are fun views from both screens.) (Louis Wu 15:16:22 UTC)

Oooh... that's nice.
Cybrfrk captured a fleeting glimpse of an Elite action figure in progress that showed up on the Bungie webcam today. (More pictures in this forum thread.) (Louis Wu 20:20:55 UTC)

Halo in Tribes 2
Nice. vector40 points out a post at the Junkyard forums from someone building a Halo-based mode for Tribes 2. There are shots of the MC model, an Elite, and the assault rifle. (All need to be pasted into new browser windows to load properly.) Check it out! (Louis Wu 08:44:35 UTC)

Badger ATV... nice.
StormSinger is working on a new model for... well, for something. Halo-related, it seems. Maybe. Anyway, it's pretty interesting, and the thread it spawned is a great read. (Louis Wu 02:49:09 UTC)

Infinite ammo exploit
Short on ammo? Got a big gun, but don't know what to use your limited shots on? brad has discovered a pretty cool exploit - in a coop game, if one player is reloading at the time that the other player passes a checkpoint, the gun that is being reloaded will have infinite ammo. Don't manually reload, or switch guns, or the glitch is lost... but as long as you keep that one gun up, and don't hit 'x' (which means no vehicles, either), you've got as much ammo as you can fire! Very nice. (Louis Wu 02:36:57 UTC)

Rumor Control Database goes live at b.net
Ooh, very nice. Not that anyone will actually read it... Matt Soell has set up the Rumor Control Database over at Bungie.net. It does its part to debunk the worst of the internet rumors about Halo - the infamous Halo 1.5 rumor, misconceptions about cheats, and (of course) the "Halo isn't coming to the PC" rumor.

QÊ Is Halo an Xbox-exclusive, or will it ever ship for PCs/Macs as originally planned?

A There WILL be Mac and PC versions of Halo. Go back and read that sentence again. Notice the clarity and straightforward nature of the answer. Note that this answer comes directly from Bungie, the makers of Halo, and is posted on our official site.

That last bit (a note, written by Bungie, posted on the official site) should go a long way to shutting down some of the silliness. Anyway, check out the rest of the database - there's some good information there! (Louis Wu 21:27:27 UTC)

Geez, that wasn't nice.
Ouch - Penny Arcade has put up their Surly Aftermath to their Awards Ceremony for 2001... and Halo wins... well, go look. Thanks to Uriel for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 15:24:13 UTC)

PDF Halo Guide at IGN
Thanks to Acrappa, who noted on Rampancy.net that IGN Xbox has put up a PDF Halo Guide for its Insiders. This is just the previously posted Halo Walkthrough, packaged up as a PDF document - in fact, the HTML version (available to all, not just insiders) has screenshots the PDF version doesn't have. Still, the search function is pretty nice... As a side note, IGN has reported that Thursday evening, for about 24 hours, they'll unlock the Insider site and let folks look around - they're hoping that the taste of what's available will get you to want to subscribe. Whether this tactic works or not, realize that you'll have 24 hours to grab whatever content you've heard about in the past that you haven't been able to see... (Louis Wu 10:09:10 UTC)

Xbox Preview Guide goes up
Still using the oldest known screenshot, but with nothing but kind words, xbox.ign.com puts up an Xbox Preview Guide, and says of Halo:

Expected to make its Xbox debut at Gamestock 2001, this highly touted FPS title from Bungie is expected to change the face of action gaming with this Xbox-exclusive. This probably the best looking game we have ever seen, and the fact that it will be all about advanced AI, vehicle use, and more Online multi-player options than you can shake a stick at get us more than a little excited.

Nice to know that even without new material (nobody's seen anything new from Bungie since June of last year), they're still talking nice. (Thanks to PunkRocker for the heads-up on our forum.) (Louis Wu 14:11:13 UTC)

Gamestock's a go
Confirmation is always nice... When asked on the R.net forum whether Xbox Halo will actually be at Gamestock next month, Matt Soell responded

Unless Mt. Rainier erupts, covering us and our source servers in a thick blanket of molten death, we should be there.

Stranger things have happened... but we're betting it's a go. (Louis Wu 21:32:50 UTC)

Gamersyndicate Halo preview
Gamersyndicate.com has a Halo preview online. No new info (they start with the text from the E3 Halo movie brochure, and move on to some basics about the gaming environment), but the presentation is pretty nice. Worth a look. (Louis Wu 00:11:43 UTC)
