Stories and links For the Fan Fiction readers, we have two new stories: For the Fan Fiction authors, I'd like to take an opportunity to point out a couple of sites you guys should know about: - Zenith - a site devoted to helping Fan Fiction writers be better at their craft. Check it out.
- The Halo Fan Fiction Project - A collection of writers attempting to recreate Halo as a novel. The project officially starts tomorrow!
And now back to your regularly schedules Sunday activities... (Louis Wu 15:36:35 UTC) (permalink)
Halo Installation 004 comes online A new site for ya - Halo Installation 004. Lots of game info, gameplay tips, speculation. Not your average 'put up a bunch of screenshots and call it a site' site. (Now if only they didn't refer to us as 'official' in the links section... :) ) (Louis Wu 15:10:55 UTC) (permalink)
Bonk is Back! Gone for a long time, Bonk returns in style! Go visit iBonk.com, and check out the newest Teleporter Fun vid - pretty cool shooting, there... (Louis Wu 14:38:23 UTC) (permalink)

New Fiction function Quick Fan Fiction functional update: there's a new link attached to each entry in the Fan Fiction section; if the story is part of a series, you can now read the series in its entirety. (The old 'more by this author' link is still there... but in some cases, this will bring up much more material than you'd like to read.) Hope this helps some of you! (Louis Wu 21:43:21 UTC) (permalink)

Warthog Render submission Oddworld18 stopped by our forum to point out a warthog rendering he did. We've added it to our Miscellaneous Art section. The version available here is a QuickTime 5 movie - but the original is linked in the description (or in Oddworld18's forum post). (Louis Wu 14:01:56 UTC) (permalink)
Linkage... Vector40 ran across a couple of heretofore-unknown Halo links this evening... we've added them to our Links page. The first one contains one monster of a movie... but unless you're hell-bent on collecting every Halo movie out there, you can probably pass on it. (It's 440 mb, and it spends 28 minutes tooling around on Silent Cartographer. It's actually a pretty good display of what most tricksters have to go through at one point... I don't know how many times I said "hey, I did that!" when he died. :) ) The second one has general info (lots collected from here) and speculation. While we were updating the Links page, we added Ross Mill's Halo Ideas page, as well. (Louis Wu 02:30:04 UTC) (permalink)

Enough soundtracks to go around Heh - thanks to Psyrixx, who pointed out (in an oh-so-polite way) that the Bungie Store has restocked its supply of Halo Soundtracks - if you couldn't get your hands on one before now, go grab it! (Heck, if you already bought one, go buy another!) (Louis Wu 20:38:17 UTC) (permalink)
Will it fly high, like a bird... What makes the world go round? How about Halo... what makes Halo go round? (Jump in any time.) (Louis Wu 18:43:11 UTC) (permalink)

Now that's just cool. Inspired by a discussion on our forum, oldmano'theC drops off a desktop image with some pretty big intentions... check it out in our Wallpaper section. (Louis Wu 21:36:56 UTC) (permalink)
That Rescuing Weasel And it's Weasel to the rescue! That Weasel Television mirrors 'Vehicle Fun' by Black_Jackal, '16 Minutes of Halo Fame' by Assassin X and HiTmAn 101, and 'Tournament' by Warbow (in both the original QT and a new, 9.8 mb .wmv) - if you're having trouble getting these files, go visit That Weasel! (The Tournament mirrors page has been updated with these links, as well as with Blackstar Production's mirror - it shouldn't be hard to get any more.) (Louis Wu 21:22:00 UTC) (permalink)
Honor is Rising... New Fan Fiction from Shadow - Rise to Honor, part 3 is now available. Take a look! (Louis Wu 21:14:44 UTC) (permalink)
The evolution of a sketch Apologies for the delay - a few days ago, we received a sketch of the Master Chief... along with a series of images showing how the final product came about. You can find this image (and its evolution) in our Miscellaneous Art section. Interesting! (Louis Wu 20:58:47 UTC) (permalink)
More music, yah! Woohoo! 5 more musical outtakes, courtesy of Marty O'Donnell and the Bungie Online team - read all about 'em (and download 'em) from Bungie's Tru7h and Reconciliation website. Thanks to Clefton Twain for the heads-up! (With a little work, the Halo Love Theme Sketch could have made it into a Godfather sequel... okay, maybe not.) (Louis Wu 18:55:51 UTC) (permalink)
Warbow vs... who? Movies, movies, and more movies... there's no guarantee that the main server won't simply melt, but we've put another massive film up at mythica.org - this time it's Warbow's 'Tournament'. It's... well, you should watch it, it's sort of hard to explain. It's 18 megs, in QT5 format, and if you can mirror it, we'd love to hear from you. In the meantime, you can find it on the web at mythica, and on Hotline at the Psyjnir Complex. (Psyrixx, you rock, too. :) ) These, and hopefully more, links can be found on the Tournament Mirrors page. Let the downloading begin! (Louis Wu 17:20:45 UTC) (permalink)
News from the Xbox front Xbox news: Pallor points out a new book by Dean Takahashi called 'Opening the Xbox: Inside Microsoft's Plan to Unleash an Entertainment Revolution'. She hasn't read it yet, but has reason to believe that Bungie (and Jason Jones) might be discussed. Also - emildux points out an article at MSNBC.com that looks at Microsoft's willingness to stay in the Console War - a prediction of nearly 2 billion dollars lost in the next two years in the fight to dominate the market. Some interesting numbers in here... nice to know that Halo 2 will still have a console to play on by the time it arrives. (Louis Wu 04:22:33 UTC) (permalink)
Mongo Movie Madness Feel the love. Yesterday, we posted our new Movie Posting Guidelines, to (regretfully) explain why we couldn't continue to find hosting for every single movie made by fans. Today, 3 new movies find non-HBO-related homes, and two movies get MORE homes. You guys rock. Okay, to business: - Vector40, against his better judgement, risks tomorrow's dinner to bring you 'Vehicle Fun', by Black_Jackal - it's a 3 minute, 7 mb .wmv file showing lots and lots of vehicle flipping.
- Mad Cow risks the wrath of his cable company by setting up a server on a spare PC in his home, and providing bandwidth for a movie called '16 Minutes Of Halo Fame!'. Another .wmv, this one is (surprise!) 16 minutes long, and 27 mb big - it shows a series of gameplay stunts, with an unusual soundtrack; creators Assassin X and HiTmAn 101 discuss the tricks as they're playing. It has a 'reality tv' type feel to it.
- Dan Chosich points out his fifth offering (titled, straightforwardly, Halo Movie 5, but also known as Halo Assault) - 6 minutes of Blood Gulch carnage, nicely filmed and set to music. (For what it's worth, I'd say this is the best of his work so far...) It's available in four flavors - two QT5 versions, and two WMV versions, ranging in size from 30 to 65 mb.
- That Weasel, a longtime HBO bandwidth donor, provides homes for Scottish Hunter and the new H3 - links point to their mirror pages, which reflect the new entries. (Mad Cow has ALSO provided another home for H3 - and that's listed there too.)
All of these movies will make it soon into the Movies database... along with a couple of other recent releases we've neglected to archive. To all the hosters - you guys make this community hum. To the movie makers - it's wonderful to see that Halo inspires so many to such heights, and we're really happy our recent scaling-back hasn't hurt the creative spirit. Keep up the great work! (Louis Wu 03:59:54 UTC) (permalink)

How to Make Friends (For Dummies) Got Halo, but can't find any prospects for local LAN games? Never fear, the 7th Column is always there to help! Shaq Diesel and Skip Weasel, two Bungie employees (and, from the sounds of it, lonely guys) offer you tips on how to make friends, in the hopes of building up a critical mass for a Halo fest. Check it out! (Louis Wu 14:52:53 UTC) (permalink)
Keep your hands on the wheel! The movie deluge has begun - and we've been forced to change our policies. :( To the rather large number of people who submitted movies over the past few days - we've written up a set of guidelines for movie submission; they should help explain our position on this issue. For right now, though, we have a new file for you - and we need mirrors for it, because it's quite large. It's called High Speed Highway Halo, or H3 for short... and it chronicles the insane antics of Team H3 as they play the first (and only, we hope) game of multi-car Halo. (You may remember that we brought you some photos of their folly a couple of weeks ago - now watch as they setup, plan, and execute this risky stunt. It's available in both Windows Media Player and QuickTime 5 formats - both weigh in at a bit under 20 megs. If you can mirror this - please drop us a line. (There are more films in the pipe, and we're going to get swamped if we're not careful.) In the meantime, you can find the available mirrors listed on the H3 Mirrors page. Thanks to NsomniA for the creation of this film, and for all of his patience for massaging it into multiple formats! Update: DOH! Sorry, I'd put them in bad places... the Mythica.org urls should work now. Apologies! (Louis Wu 13:37:31 UTC) (permalink)

Clan listing, and contest for artwork Weekend link roundup - a site for 'X-Squad' was pointed out to us; they're a Halo clan that plays on Gamespy. Visit their site if you're interested in joining, or would like to challenge 'em. (Thanks, Griffon.) Also, Ross Mills writes to say that his Halo Ideas site was far more popular than he expected, and has decided to overhaul his site. To that end, he's set up a contest; he's looking for artwork for the new design. Details can be found on the site. (Louis Wu 13:35:24 UTC) (permalink)

Multiplayer viewpoints at xbox.com A couple of pieces from Microsoft's Xbox.com site which might be worth a read... Francesca Reyes, Senior Editor of the Official Xbox MagazineÊwrote an article entitled 'The Real "Halo" World', describing how multiplayer fests affect the interactions between co-workers... and Martyn Rose penned an article called 'Co-op Multiplayer Blast Fest!', which looks at why Coop is so much fun. (This latter article requires you to sign inÑthere's no cost to registerÑto xbox.com before reading it.) Take a look! Update: Eep! We forgot to mention the interview with Max Hoberman and Matt Soell about the Bungie Store! (It's not new, but we never mentioned it before...) Definitely worth a read. (Louis Wu 22:11:22 UTC) (permalink)
Fan Fiction doings... A new Fan Fiction story for you - KnightmareWolf's Fafnir Chapter 1. (This was actually submitted before the last update, but we managed to miss it.) Also, Kyo has submitted revised versions of both of his chapters (we don't encourage this - really) - you can read the new versions individually, or as a unit. Update: DOH! Didn't even notice the new chapter of Shadow's Rise to Honor series in our inbox as I was processing fiction. Check out Chapter 2: The Mission now. (Louis Wu 21:56:03 UTC) (permalink)
When Bungie stacks levels funny Caught again... miles did some fancy footwork in order to leave a nav-pointed grunt alive at the start of Truth and Reconciliation... and hence was able to measure the distance from the arrival bay inside the Truth and Reconciliation (where you end up after going through the gravity lift) and the starting point of the level... and the interesting thing is that the ship is BELOW the start point, not above it! Bizarre... (Louis Wu 17:51:55 UTC) (permalink)
MC Skin for Tribes 2 CENOBITE has created a Master Chief skin (in three sizes; the 'Light' size looks most like the Halo Master Chief) for Tribes 2. You can see what it looks like here, and download it from the Skinner's Guild. (You'll need to registerÖit's freeÖto download, so if there's enough demand (and if it's okay with CENOBITE), we'll host a copy here, too.) Update: CENOBITE has no problem with our hosting the file - so if you don't want to register at the Skinner's Guild, you can grab a zipped version here. (Okay, it's not technically HEREÖwe've put it into Mythica's mirror spaceÖbut the point is, you don't need to fill any forms out to get it.) The Skinner's Guild is still a great source of info and advice, though - if you have any questions, that's the place to head. (Louis Wu 13:48:00 UTC) (permalink)

3 stories to read Friday's Fan Fiction collection: (This is actually yesterday's fan fiction - they were ready to post then, except that one of the authors forgot a title. Rather than wait any longer, however, I've decided to post them as is.) (Louis Wu 20:06:44 UTC) (permalink)
The New Phone Books Are Here! Heh - a few days ago, Halo 2 was just a rumor in the minds of the hopeful. Two days ago, the news of its existence (as stated by J. Allard) was all over the internet. Today... according to the Magic Box, it'll be out in Japan by the end of this year. Don't you love how fast things change? (For what it's worth, we'd be willing to bet reasonable amounts of money that this is horse-pucky.) Thanks to Jon Chang for making us smile. (Louis Wu 19:53:22 UTC) (permalink)
Musical Outtakes... yeah, baby! Woohoo! Promised a LONG time ago, Bungie's Tru7h and Reconciliation site now hosts a Musical Outtakes article! Check these out - anyone interested in how a game's music evolves shouldn't miss this! (Louis Wu 19:08:56 UTC) (permalink)

YYMMDBATC - solved! Whoa - the Myth Total Soundtrack CD acronym has been solved! (Okay, okay, not really Halo news... but the search for acronyms has occupied our forum periodically recently, so maybe this'll spur attacks on the two new ones - the Halo GotY one (ABTFIPAS05) and the Halo Soundtrack one (SABABWL).) In any case, drop by the Marathon's Story Forum and see what Yeroen had to say about its origins! (For more information on the acronyms in general, visit Hamish's Acronym section of the Marathon's Story site.) Thanks to mnemesis for pointing it out... and thanks, actually, to Yeroen, for jumping in before anyone REALLY solved it. ('Tasty' was never a guess in the thread... or in fact in ANY thread on the subject, really... and 'Dwarven' is not the same thing as 'Dwarf'.) We're not going to argue too much, though... we'll take what we can get. :) (Louis Wu 18:40:06 UTC) (permalink)

Goodies in August OXM UK mag Griffon writes to let us know of the massive Halo article in the July issue of OXM UK (yes, it's been noted before), and to mention that the 'Making Of' videos can be found on the DVD with that mag (this is news, and good news for folks who can't get their hands on the freebie given away by the Bungie Store). Go pick up your copy today! (We'll be posting scans of the article as soon as the issue's off the shelves.) Update: A second article in the mag confirms the existence of Halo 2 - slated to come out (according to J. Allard, Xbox General Manager - remember Bungie's policy on release dates) Christmas 2003. You can read the text of this second article in this Team Xbox forum thread. (Louis Wu 13:38:48 UTC) (permalink)
Tales from the Dark Site Eep - go a few days without looking at the other sites in the Bungie realm, and you miss stuff. :( Stopped by Rampancy.net today, and discovered that - The Making Of Halo vids (at least the two 'new' ones) are now mirrored there - we've added links to our Mirrors page
- Forerunners.org is much closer to opening than it has been
- There's some crack-fueled speculation about the future of Halo - and even a new name for the hat containing potential Mac porting companies
Stop by, check it out! These guys should be on your rounds list, for sure - they're usually on mine, but life's been crazy recently. (Louis Wu 13:17:41 UTC) (permalink)

How lame is that? Last week, MacGamer put up a feature called 'MacGamer's Gaming "It" List' - what's cool and what's lame in the world of Mac Gaming. Bungie made the list - twice. First, for the lameness involved with arguments about whether Halo's coming to the Mac or not... and then, for the lameness of being bought by Microsoft. Who says Mac users aren't bitter? (Thanks to Jon Chang for the heads-up.) (Louis Wu 19:31:07 UTC) (permalink)

(There was some speculation about how many teams are working at Bungie - Lorraine clarified that there are currently 2. Phoenix is obviously one... and the Halo team is probably the other (working on Halo 2?).) (Louis Wu 17:52:26 UTC) (permalink)
Halo 2 - announced by a UK gameseller lol - Why You Should Never Believe Game Sellers, Part 77: Greg noticed that GamePlay is willing to sell you Halo 2 right now, as a pre-order. The funny part? Please note that as this title was just officially announced at this years E3, the pricing has not been set and as such the price here is higher than expexcted. For those who put their scorecards down for a bathroom break, Halo 2 was not officially announced anywhere—E3 or elsewhere. It's a good bet that it'll get made—Bungie would be foolish to pass up on the chance to make a sequel for the fastest million-seller in next-gen console history—but it sure as heck don't exist, "officially", yet. Just something to keep in mind, the next time you're talking to a salesperson in Babbages... (Louis Wu 14:04:57 UTC) (permalink)

Roger Wilco, unwilling to wait for Halo tools to be released, has added another few designs to his 'Halo Vehicles' page - the 'Warbow', the 'Lobster', and my personal favorite, the 'GNERD'... check 'em out. (Don't forget to follow the little movie icons at the beginning of each entry - they lead to short quicktime flicks showing a full 360° view...) (Louis Wu 02:46:09 UTC) (permalink)
Finishing time? Hmm. Taylor Helsper wants to know how long it takes to beat Halo - so he's set up a basic site ('Halo Times') to compile this data. There are a boatload of movies in our inbox - there's no way we can release them all at once. (Part of that is a bandwidth issue; the other part is that it's Father's day, and there just isn't time to process it all.) We'll start you off with Dave Driggs' Fragfest footage - a 1:38 romp through Blood Gulch, with some fun commentary. (He also made a nice little 'trophy' for the evening - check out the details!) Making Of vids now in QT format It's always good to get behind-the-scenes commentary from developers; you can learn some cool stuff listening to them, when they're willing to talk. 8 members of the Halo dev team talked last fall - they made 4 interviews for the 'Making Of Halo' DVD. Two of those 4 have since been released on the web - in streaming .wmv format. (Fans have converted that to various other things for the first one—the O'Donnell/Staten interview that went up at Microsoft's Halo site in September—but the end result was less than satisfying, and in any case, there were still three that were unwatchable in anything but .wmv, if at all.) For those interested in what these 8 Bungie employees had to say about the making of Halo, we've converted the movies to QuickTime 5 format, and put all four on the web. (Currently, the only mirror sites are Mythica.org and the Psyjnir Complex Hotline server... but we'd be thrilled to add your name to this list.) Visit our Team Interviews Mirrors list, and grab the ones that sound interesting! (Thanks again to Brian Towne and Psyrixx for the bandwidth...) (Louis Wu 19:08:27 UTC) (permalink)
He's got bigger ears than Dubya... One-Shots section gets massive update As many, many people have pointed out, we're way behind in processing submissions to the Gameplay Tricks page and the One-Shots section. Well, there are still almost 2 dozen tricks in the queue... but the One-Shots queue is now empty. 17 new images are available for your perusal. Because of the horribly long lead time on some of these, the original submission dates have been added to the images themselves. (To see it, you have to actually look at the picture. the 'Submitted' line on the main One-Shots page refers to the upload date.) Enjoy! (If you submitted an image, and it's not in this batch, it's probably because someone else already submitted something similar - look around for it. If you think we made a mistake, send us email - but please, DON'T resubmit the image (unless we ask you to). Thanks!) (Louis Wu 13:10:53 UTC) (permalink)

Marty Tribute Page at Music 4 Games Want to know a bit more about the the man behind the Halo Soundtrack (released yesterday, in stores everywhere)? Music 4 Games has put up a tribute page to Marty O'Donnell, with some bio information. (Most of this is already available elsewhere... but it's nice to have it all in one place.) Fiction for Fans Wednesday's Fan Fiction: foxhound suggests that, since so much time has passed between chapters 2 and 3 of Apollo, you read the entire series from the beginning. Dick Van Dyke + Halo = ... A fun little movie came in recently from Halo-Wannabe, an HBO forum regular. 6 megs, just under 2 minutes, in QT5 format - it should definitely make you smile. You can find it at mythica.org. Check it out! (Louis Wu 09:06:20 UTC) (permalink)
I know it's here somewhere... Foxx Wolf sends in an image which asks a question we've all wondered about, at some point... (admit it, you wanted to know, too) You can find it in our Miscellaneous Art section. Incidentally - Foxx was the person who asked 'Who's the oldest Halo player?' Marty O'Donnell writes By the way, my mother has played Halo and she's 78 years old. It's pretty clear that virility runs in that family, so maybe Mrs. O'Donnell shouldn't count... Images and Words New content over at Bungie's Tru7h and Reconciliation site - there's a pretty fun new 'Caption This!' section, wherein Bungie puts up great screenshots (warning: spoilers), and you write captions for them (and vote on other people's attempts)... and in honor of tomorrow's release of the Halo Soundtrack, there's an interview with Marty O'Donnell. Thanks to mnemesis and Ape Man for the heads-up on the screenshots section - even though BOTH of them missed the Marty interview... (he doesn't get no respect!) Check it all out. Good stuff. Halo Dog Tags on eBay In Japan, Halo dog tags and a case were given out with very early copies of Halo. (You needed the dog tags to get in to the Halo Championship.) Now, thanks to Team Overkill, you're being notified that a set of dog tags and the case are being sold on eBay - current bid is $24.99, and the acution ends in 2 days, 9 hours... Update: Seems $24.99 was the 'Buy it Now' price - it's not clear to me why the auction wasn't listed as over when I posted this, but it is now. Thanks (again) to Deimos™ for the heads-up. Press Scans up-to-date The Press Scans database has been brought up to date again. Another Halo Ad added, along with some mad ravings in last month's Xgamer, and a very interesting article from the last issue of Xbox Nation. (These last two were both mentioned some time ago - March 26th for the XBN piece and April 24th for the Xgamer bit - but we needed to wait until these were off the shelves to post them.) Remember - the quote from Alex S. about the relationship between Halo and Marathon was addressed by Matt in the aforementioned thread. Update: A couple of months ago, Subnova put up scans of an interesting interview with Jaime Griesemer, Halo Designer. We were so caught up in not posting it before it was off the shelves that we forgot about it altogether. Deimos™ kindly reminded us - it's been added now. (Louis Wu 15:46:35 UTC) (permalink)
That's a lot of jeeps, dude... Coolaid sends word that he's created a new Halo movie. It's pretty big (55 mb, zipped), in QT format. 6 and a half minutes long - mostly jeep flipping, set to music. You can find it on his Power Rangers clan site, or his friend's site. (Louis Wu 15:31:18 UTC) (permalink)
2000 Credits? I'll take one! Clint Wilkes sends in a new Mastercard 'Priceless' parody - you'll find it in our Miscellaneous Art section. (Nice nod to Foxx Wolf's mom! And to Stormsinger, as well...) (Louis Wu 14:13:14 UTC) (permalink)

Nice fins... One of these days, a new section will come online here at HBO - it'll house some of the cool mod-related artwork that's sprung up in the past few months. Until then, though, new submissions will continue to go into the Miscellaneous Art section... like this rendering of a Scorpion motion-tracking missile (described in 'The Fall of Reach', and featured in Stormsinger's upcoming Skyhawk model). Check it out! (Louis Wu 01:31:14 UTC) (permalink)
'Well, I just wondered, could I have a go?' The oldest Halo convert? Foxx Wolf sends in an account of getting his mom hooked on Halo - she's 63 years old. I spent a pleasant hour or so teaching her how to move around and play, what to do, the basic how's and where's of first-person games. She loved it! Despite her slower reaction times, and lack of any familiarity with the concept, she was smearing grunts all over the grass pretty quickly. I get the feeling she'll probably play while I'm not around! Do you know any Halo players older than this? (Besides Marty, of course...) (Louis Wu 01:16:22 UTC) (permalink)
Mirror movage - didja get all that? Night of the Living Mirrors... Vector40 writes to say that he's added The Repertory to the list of mirrors for the 'Evolution of Halo' vid. That Weasel writes to say that he's converted that movie to Windows Media Player format (it's now only 30 megs), and you can grab it from That Weasel Television. Brian Towne writes to say that the load on mythica.org for the Evolution movie has dropped enough that mirroring Dan Chosich's 'Halo: DV' movie isn't a problem... so we've added, deleted, and moved links. You should find the 'Evolution of Halo' mirror list and the 'Halo: DV' mirror list in order. (Louis Wu 01:12:14 UTC) (permalink)

Halo Gameplay vid released Another monster movie - Dan Chosich, who's already turned in a number of movies for our Movies section, has created a new one. It's available in both QuickTime 5 and Windows Media Player formats, in pretty high quality - the QT5 version is 36 mb, the WMV version is 47 mb. For the time being, they're both hosted on Dan's Twenty-Seventy Wired site - but mirrors are, of course, always appreciated. (When the demand for the Evolution of Halo drops off a bit, we'll add these to mythica.org, at least...) Dan's site has a full description of the video. Movies, movies, everywhere! Evolution of Halo hits the net At the Bungie Fanfest a couple of weeks ago, one of the highlights was a movie from Bungie called 'The Evolution of Halo'. It showed how Halo developed from its obvious Myth roots (the opening sequence of somersaulting marines is hilarious) to something resembling what finally got released. (The newest versions shown are actually close to 2 years old...) The commentary was provided by Bungie employees, and it was a fascinating view behind the scenes. Unfortunately, Bungie made it very clear that they would never release this movie - it was a perk for fans willing to make the trek to the fest. They didn't, however, stop anyone from taping it with a camcorder... and Deanero did exactly that. Video quality isn't great (hey, the camcorder was handheld, and not even set up in the center of the room), but hardcore Halo fans will still find the humongous download worth it. One important thing to keep in mind - Bungie made this film for the faithful - the folks who can tell the difference between a joke and an official statement. There are things said on the soundtrack that are NOT to be taken as official commentary by Bungie Studios - it's a bunch of guys who happen to work for Bungie, cracking jokes and reminiscing. With those caveats, go visit our Evolution mirrors page, and grab your copy! Major props go out to Brian Towne, of Mythica.org, Ryan 'sonicstorm' Foote, of Battleground: Halo, and Psyrixx, of The Psyjnir Complex, for their gracious providing of bandwidth for this massive file... and we'd like to put out a serious plea for more - a movie this big will strain ANY pipe, so the more we have, the better off we are! (Louis Wu 10:23:13 UTC) (permalink)

HBO opens a Legendary Walkthrough section A long, long time ago, Asmodeus (a longtime Bungie fan and HBO forumgoer) began to write up a series of Walkthroughs for the various levels in Halo, on Legendary. He had trouble getting Bungie to notice them, though, so he turned to us. We can be space cadets sometimes... so it wasn't until he sent in his sixth level that we remembered we were going to put these up. However, our spacing days are over, so head on over to the Legendary Walkthrough section of our Gameplay Tips and Tricks section, and check out the walkthroughs for 6 of Halo's 10 solo levels! (The other 4 are coming soon.) (Louis Wu 19:43:47 UTC) (permalink)

OXM Top Plays for June... And another movie... This one's been in the queue for quite a while, though. Distributed with the Official Xbox Magazine is a DVD with game demos, music, and (among other things) a feature called 'Top 10 Plays'. Each month they put together 10 of the top film clips users send them, of all Xbox games. The June disc had 3 Halo entries - they were 1, 2, and 3! Go and grab the 3.2 mb, 45 second QT5 clip now. Grateful thanks go out to Team Overkill, who sent us the film itself. (We needed to wait until the June issue was off the shelves before we brought this to you.) (Louis Wu 20:33:10 UTC) (permalink)
Little Fanfic upload Just a couple of entries for today's Fan Fiction offering: - Ascendant, Part 1, by Archangel's Blade
- Another Pair of Poems, by Anthony Coronado
The two poems were originally (accidentally) included at the end of the last Roughneck Two-Zero chapter... my fault. Update: DOH! Somehow, I missed the fact that three segments of 'Ascendant' came in recently, not just one. You can read Part II and Part III separately... or you can read all three as a series. Old Spicy McHunter... Looks like this is turning out to be Movie day. We'll start with a submission from Djoey154 - it's called Scottish Hunter, and we'll warn you now, the music is mature-rated. He originally submitted this as a Windows Media Player file (11.8 mb) - but with some coaxing, submitted an .avi which has been converted to QuickTime 5 format (12.9 mb). Currently, they're both on mythica.org - but we will almost certainly need mirrors for this - please let us know if you can put this up. (I''ll be adding a Hotline version for both of these in the next couple of hours, at least.) Take a look... Update: A mirror list has been added for this film - hopefully we can populate it soon! All movies from the last few days have been added to the Movies database - and while you're there, you might notice an extra data chunk; movies with spoilers are now labeled in red, near the bottom of the entry. There's currently no way to REMOVE spoiler-laden movies from the list... but there will be, eventually. (Louis Wu 09:40:26 UTC) (permalink)

Canadian Halo Commercial available A couple of days ago, we reported that a new Halo commercial was airing on Canadian television. Well, Bill Maguire managed to tape this for us... and his brother Bob did some nice converting to a digital format. (We had to crunch down his original submission, because it was pretty big - but the resulting versions should be quite viewable. Any compression artifacts were introduced by HBO meddling, not Bob's original conversion.) Thanks to the HBO Bandwidth Angels (a spur-of-the-moment name for some of our bigger bandwidth donators), you have 4 mirrors to choose from for each of four flavors of the movie - there are two sizes each of a QT5 version and a WMV version. Other mirrors will, of course, be gratefully appreciated, and added to the list. Enjoy! (Louis Wu 16:37:16 UTC) (permalink)
