Travelogue: The Search for a New Stage
This Spartan Life has posted Episode 5, Module 4 - a travelogue that continues the storyline from earlier modules, which uses the new Halo 3 maps to great advantage. Nice camera angles! More details can be found on their front page, and their Episodes page. (Louis Wu 12:35:47 UTC)

Machinima Makers - Read This
Okay, so I've got good news and bad news for you, if you make Halo machinima, and you want to know how to put your weapon down. The good news is, we've got that info for you, thanks to madmax. The bad news? It only works locally or in system link - it will NOT work over Live. Sorry. So: here's the trick (and it really is a trick, you need a lot of fingers): hold down both bumpers, both sticks, A and DPad-Down for 3 seconds. (Three fingers per hand should do it.) To bring the gun back up, just pull a trigger. And oh, yeah - this works in both Multiplayer... AND Campaign. Update: Chris Burke, from This Spartan Life, sent in a correction - you don't actually need to hold down the right stick. The other 5 buttons do the trick. (Louis Wu 19:41:03 UTC)

Data Jacking?
Um... I'm not sure I understand all that's going on here... but some weird stuff showed up on our forum this morning. Before you go there, though - visit This Spartan Life; it seems to start there (check the front page, then visit their episodes page). (Louis Wu 11:58:57 UTC)

This Spartan Life challenges Dems
Chris Burke, of This Spartan Life, is asking the Democratic candidates in the '08 presidential race where they stand on Net Neutrality; you can see a Youtube version of the video in This Spartan Life's 1UP club. It'll be interesting to see if he gets any responses! Thanks, Sgt. Hartsock. (Louis Wu 15:03:04 UTC)

Body Count
This Spartan Life has posted Module 5 of Episode 4 - Body Count. This time around, it's a debate between Ann Coulter, queen of neocons, and Tom Anderson, founder of MySpace, over the validity (and usefulness) of the Patriot Act. (The actual topic description is 'Homeland Security Vs. Civil Liberties'.) We try to stay out of politics here at HBO (there's a strict ban on political discussion on our forum), but when rocket launchers are involved... well, it can be pretty entertaining. Available (as always) in QuickTime and WMP9 formats. (Louis Wu 06:08:45 UTC)

Civil War
After a long quiet period, This Spartan Life is back with a new video blog - Damian deals with dissension in the ranks the way dissension SHOULD be dealt with - via bloodshed. Well, virtual bloodshed, anyway. Check out 'Civil War' on TSL's Blog page (QuickTime format, 44.3 mb, WMP9 coming soon). (Louis Wu 22:38:02 UTC)

This Spartan Life, Ep 4 (most modules)
This Spartan Life, a machinima talk show, has released previous episodes as 'modules' - a half-hour show might be broken up into 5 or 6 pieces, and released over the course of a few weeks. Episode 4 is a little different - 3 of the 5 modules are online right now, with a fourth due to show up later today. This episode will contain interviews with McKenzie Wark (author of A Hacker Manifesto, among other works) and Burnie Burns (of Rooster Teeth Productions), as well as humor and music snippets. The opening monologue, the travelogue we mentioned in early November, and the interview with Burnie are all up now, with the McKenzie Wark interview coming soon. Go watch - good stuff! 3 new This Spartan Life eps at SpikeTV
First off - I noticed a frew folks saw the headline of last night's Weekly Update post ('Pistol De-Nerfed') and wondered if I were being sarcastic, or if there really was going to be something done with the pistol to return it to Halo 1 status - for the record, it was a joke. Sorry. Okay, on to Halo news. The rest of the episodes that This Spartan Life did for Spike TV are now online - we mentioned the Frag Dolls piece back in November, and the Augustana piece earlier this week - if you swing by now, you'll find three new episodes. Damian talked to Tristan Pope and Terran Gregory, of Blizzard, about World of Warcraft (and Machinima), as well as Geoff Keighley, of Spike TV's Game Head, and Julian Gerighty, producer of Splinter Cell. Again, there's no way to get to the videos directly via Spike's Flash interface, so follow the URL to the VGA 2006 page, and then click on the 'This Spartan Life' link in the left navbar to get an interface to all 5 'webisodes'. Thanks to Nicholas Brown for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 13:45:13 UTC)

This Spartan Life talks to Augustana
The second interview done by This Spartan Life for the 2006 SpikeTV Video Game Awards (the first went live last month) is now up - Damian talks to Jared Palomar, of the band Augustana. Band talk, a discussion of the whole Game with Fame program, and trap shooting... with fusion cores. Fun stuff! (To find it, follow the link above, then click on 'Watch This Spartan Life' in the left navbar, and choose the second vid.) (Louis Wu 15:43:46 UTC)

Frag Dolls on This Spartan Life
First off, apologies for scaring anyone yesterday - I'm fine. On to the news... let's start with Chromium's post about an interview with the Frag Dolls, done by This Spartan Life's Damian Lacedamian, created for Spike TV's 2006 Video Game Awards. (You'll need to click on the 'This Spartan Life' link on the left to see the vid.) As usual, the interview takes place within Halo - but this one will give you a little bit of insight about the Dolls - where they come from, how they got involved in this stuff. Go listen! Tra5h Ta1k's Machinima Festival Opening
Very nice - over at the website for the Ill Clan's Trash Talk, there's a new episode that was made specifically for the Machinima Film Festival last weekend - it has Trash Talk's Ill Will interacting with characters from various nominees at the convention, including Church and Tucker from Red vs Blue, and Damien Lacedamian from This Spartan Life. Fun! Thanks, The First Spartan. (Louis Wu 19:45:26 UTC)

Halo-Ween Travelogue from TSL
This Spartan Life put together a fun little 'Halo-Ween' Travelogue; it's a celebration of the holiday, more than a serious commentary on things. TSL regular Sgt. Hartsock uploaded a copy of it to YouTube, so you can watch it without using the TSL bandwidth - take a look! (Louis Wu 16:14:34 UTC)

Spartans in San Francisco
Saturday Night must be movie night. We've got one more for you... then it's off to bed. This Spartan Life whipped up a new Video Blog (Blog 6), showing off their trip to San Francisco this summer. Awesome cameo by Marty O'Donnell. (This went up yesterday, but I thought we were waiting for a WMP9 version before announcing it. Apparently not - so it's QuickTime only. 11.6 mb.) Can I hear you say it's only a game?
This Spartan Life has released the final module for Episode 3 - it's a music video/dance segment which revolves around a Halo 2 easter egg. It's awesome. (Watch the synchronization of the dance choreography... and then think about what's involved in getting that just right. I don't think I've ever seen it done this well on such a large scale.) Great special effects, and the song, by glomag with MC Aero, is pretty funny as well. Available in QuickTime format (25.2 mb), .m4v for your iPod (on their Podcast page, 22.3 mb), and soon in WMP9 format as well. (Louis Wu 18:48:38 UTC)

Google says we rock.
Heh - over at Google Video, there was an episode of Google Current that aired about a month ago that looked at the subject of 'net neutrality' - it talked about how this concept (which is concerned with a possible 'tiered' internet, in which higher-paying customers get faster bandwidth) has really only exploded in the last couple of months. During the piece, a recent 'This Spartan Life' video blog was discussed (because its focus, too, was net neutrality - we mentioned it here)... the part that amused me was the end of the Google Current clip. "You can watch the whole thing at thisspartanlife.com, and (for now, at least) that video blog loads very quickly." A throwaway tagline, maybe... but since we're providing the video hosting for This Spartan Life, it's still nice to hear. Thanks, Joshua Ary. (Louis Wu 11:19:58 UTC)

Check it out! (Louis Wu 12:53:35 UTC)

That Hand! That's... a Dead Man's Hand!
Dweezle86 dropped by our forum to let us know that there's a bunch of new content at Dead Man's Hand; aside from the article we mentioned a couple of days ago, there are interviews with Damian Lacedaemion of THis Spartan Life and Mintz of Halo: Portable, along with a number of Halo-related (or not related) articles. Go read! (Louis Wu 18:45:41 UTC)

Net Neutrality, and Plasma Grenades
This Spartan Life has a new video blog up - it looks at the subject of tiered internet service, and why it might be bad for you, me, and everyone except the large corporations with the cash to pay for premium service. Funny stuff about a serious topic! (10.8 mb, QuickTime format.) (Louis Wu 11:36:59 UTC)
