Halo's Gametype Design Issues/Fixes - Finished
RC Master has finished up his gametype critique - there's a section on Crazy Gametypes, and some closing thoughts. Go read! (Tom Van Sinden 19:17:04 UTC) (permalink)
Video game planets
The Alpha ELite pointed out a pretty cool little animation by Tim Hijlkema - it lays out 10 video game 'planets', including one that's pretty relevant to this website! The whole video is great - go watch. (Tom Van Sinden 19:14:43 UTC) (permalink)
BOB Video Guide Part 7: Exodus
Lord Friendship stopped by to announce that the Halo: Reach BOB Guide for the level Exodus is now online - all three Banshee BOBS on this level are shown, along with techniques for taking them out (and even some backstory about why they're in Banshees at all). Have I mentioned how cool this entire guide is?

Playtime S3E3: The Search Begins
CruelLEGACEY has released the third episode of this season's run of Playtime - Warren and Red on on their way to find Cobra. Go watch! (Tom Van Sinden 18:25:33 UTC) (permalink)
From Lurker to Leader: A Frags to Riches Story We've mentioned the Lurker to Leader Panel at PAX a couple of times, because our own GrimBrother One was up on stage - but it's not until today that we can give you a link to actually WATCH it for yourself. GrifballHub's Goose Checka (the impetus behind this particular panel in the first place) let us know that the entire hour-long conversation is now up on YouTube. This discussion is near and dear to my heart; its core is all about how fan communities are managed, and how good leaders can help them grow. Every one of the panelists is someone I look up to as an example of fantastic fan leadership, and while I wish I could have been there in person this past Friday, to watch them live, getting to see this video takes away much of the sting. If you're interested in fan communities, and the people who help to shape them, GO WATCH THIS. (Tom Van Sinden 14:18:52 UTC) (permalink)
Shield and Sword - Shield World Last month, we mentioned a forum post by Leviathan, one that looked at his own vision of where a Halo game could go. It was fascinating, and generated some really interesting conversation. Well... he's back, with the next installment. This one focuses on a mission titled 'Shield World', and reading it will give you a peek into Levi's mind - there are concept art pieces, diagrams of layout, ideas about new weapons, a sandbox, and more. After reading it, I wanted nothing more than to PLAY it. Go see if you agree. (Tom Van Sinden 14:09:09 UTC) (permalink)
Breaking In - Daniel Hanson The latest Breaking In article at Bungie is a visit with Daniel Hanson, a relatively recent (October, 2011) hire for the User Interface team. As has been true of the last few of these, Daniel was hired well after Bungie's last Halo product was released - but as a glimpse inside the company, and as a window into what might be needed to get a job in the gaming industry in general, this episode (this SERIES) is a must-read. Practical Jumping on Reach Ep 3: MLG Sanctuary v7 Tashi has released a new video in his series of Practical Jumps, Ledges and Tricks - this one covers MLG Sanctuary v7. (This one has fewer jumps that are applicable to the vanilla Reach version of the map than previous videos... but you should absolutely watch it even if you don't hang out in the MLG list - knowing WHERE to try jumps is half the battle.) PAX East, through the eyes of CL
CruelLEGACEY has been doing a bang-up job of covering the Halo-related material that could be found at PAX East this year - He's got summaries of Day One and Day Two (his Day Three summary should be up today), as well as the latest Waypoint Community Modcast (recorded at the show, and featuring an amazing collection of guest hosts). You absolutely shouldn't miss the Waypoint Dance Mob (it's not all Waypoint; our own GrimBrothers One and Four, along with Hitmonchan, are featured), and for extra spice, there's a version filmed by HBO's own Miguel Chavez. If you weren't there (I wasn't there), you should be sad. (I'm sad.) (Tom Van Sinden 13:50:10 UTC) (permalink)
