A Clover on my Shoulder
Folks have been making montages of gameplay footage for almost as long as Halo's been out, and I think I've been pretty consistent in my tastes during that time. I've always felt that some effects can add to the interest level of the montage - but there's a point at which visual effects take away from a montage's enjoyability. We got word from Lando Griff1n today that his montage was posted, over at Bungie.net (well, hosted by Halo3Montage, but the discussion is at B.net), and I downloaded the HD version to check it out. I think I can say with confidence that I've never seen a montage with more video effects than this one. It's fascinating just from an academic standpooint... but I warn you, you might have some trouble watching it if you've been drinking. There are smaller versions if 330 mb is too much for you. Machinimania
Bungie's Blog has a machinima roundup - looks to be a bunch of submitted movies, with descriptions by their creators. Most have been mentioned here before - but not all. Go poke around! (Louis Wu 19:22:32 UTC) (permalink)
Speed Reading
Cthulhu117 let us know that the Fan Fic Pick of the Week is already online. That was fast! (Louis Wu 17:48:41 UTC) (permalink)
Halo: The Day the World Died
shisno34 pointed out 'The Day our World Died', a fan film created by some students in Sweden as an entry into the 'Halo 3 Recut' contest Microsoft Europe ran this spring. Pretty nice! (Louis Wu 17:31:11 UTC) (permalink)
Halo 3: Vehicles Gone Wild
This showed up in my Google alerts this morning - it made me smile. Very cute idea! (Louis Wu 17:26:05 UTC) (permalink)
Friday's Fan Fiction Wow - almost forgot it was Friday! Ten new pieces in the Fan Fiction section today - go see what you can find! (Louis Wu 15:54:31 UTC) (permalink)
Wear Your Helmet Today's edition of Another Halo Comic Strip is another zinger from Keith Jones - it might be considered a little more mature in content than other strips, but its humor can't be denied. (Louis Wu 14:30:55 UTC) (permalink)
Philly Gamers - looking for a web overhaul
Paul Miles, from PhillyGamers.net, let us know that they've got six LAN tournaments scheduled between the July 4th weekend and the end of September - all are in and around Philadelphia, and all will have Halo 3 2v2 events (among other games). They're looking for someone who wants to help rebuild their website - if you're interested, swing by and let 'em know! (Preferred contact appears to be their Myspace profile.) Top Ten US Console Games, from NPD (via GS)
Interesting. Gamespot has posted some info from NPD, the industry tracking group that keeps up on sales numbers... they've listed the Top Ten Best-Selling Non-PC Games in the US (yes, that's a bunch of qualifiers), and a Halo game is there. But maybe not the one you expected... it's Halo 2. (Halo 3 has sold almost 8 million copies worldwide, so far - but only about 5.75 million of those have been in the US.) Unlucky Elite 2
Last September, Jamie98s let us know about the Unlucky Elite - today, he's released a sequel. Unlucky Elite 2 follows our hapless friend as he continues his fight against the human. Great sound, nice effects, well-done all around. You can watch the streaming version at Jamie98s' site, but since nobody should have to be subjected to MegaUpload, we're providing mirrors for the download versions - both WMP9 and QuickTime. (They're 62 mb each.) (Louis Wu 13:20:33 UTC) (permalink)
From Medusa's Head
It's time for a new Reclaimer comic, or so TTL Demag0gue tells us - Episode 52 provides the names of two more AIs (and the origin of one of those). Funky! (Louis Wu 13:02:33 UTC) (permalink)
Okay, we're going to cut the leg now. Bite hard.
It's Friday, so it's time for Caption Fun over at Hawty McBloggy's. She's got last week's results up (some funny lines in the more than 300 submissions!), and a new picture to work with. Go see! (Speaking of caption fun, over at Forge Hub, they're running a screenshot caption contest - come up with a caption, and get some front-page time there!) (Louis Wu 13:00:27 UTC) (permalink)
Community Spotlight: HaloTracks
Yesterday afternoon, Bungie posted a new Community Spotlight - this one is on HaloTracks, a site devoted to Halo racing enthusiasts. (A chunk of the spotlight is spent discussing the Wallrider map - i have to say, I downloaded this, and while the track itself is pretty cool, be aware that there are a LOT of things you can do to get your mongoose stuck permanently in places it can't get out - I wasn't even TRYING to break things and I lost the first two vehicles I climbed on.) Go check 'em out - their creations are currently filling up Bungie Favorites! (Louis Wu 12:38:53 UTC) (permalink)
