The Return of CMT
Over at NeoGAF, Awesome Barlow pointed out that the Custom Mapping Team (a Halo CE group) is back in action - you can read about it on their site! Update: Masterz1337, the CMT leader, asked that we change the link to point to the CMT site itself - there's far more information. We've done that. (The Modacity post we used can still be found in Awesome Barlow's post.) (Louis Wu 17:20:21 UTC)

Halo Custom Edition News
We heard from Dennis Powers about a bunch of new maps from the Community Mapping Team (CMT G3 Vestigial, CMT G3 Ruins, CMT G3 Mousetrap, and CMT G3 Augur), along with 240692 from Jepr (inspired by Narrows) and Pitfall by MoooseGuy (unique water feature). These are just a few of the 68 new files added in July. We also heard from Higuy about Lumoria - there's a new video showing off the map along with news and screenshots to fill out the details. Pretty impressive! (Louis Wu 20:51:42 UTC)

Halo Custom Edition News - the HaloMaps version
Dennis Powers sent us some statistics, and some intriguing creations, all seen at Halomaps.org recently. Since January 1 of this year, almost 300 new files have been added, and they're averaging almost 300,000 downloads/month - not bad for a 7-year-old product! Stuff you might want to look at: Noobyourmom has created a single-player campaign with role-playing elements in it - Halo Covert Ops currently has six maps (one | two | three | four | five | six) where you play as an ODST and are given a mission where you can make choices that determine the game play and storyline. Very cool! In addition, he mentioned another few maps worth taking a look at (some we already highlighted last month - this is just the new stuff):

Go browse - tons of stuff! (Louis Wu 11:44:10 UTC)

Dennis Powers sent us a Halo Custom Edition update from Halomaps - more than 100 files were added during July, including the CMT SPv2 beta (mentioned earlier today), the Ring of Life videos (mentioned the last couple of Mondays), and some new maps - single-player maps like Rio Firefight and Salisp, and MP maps like Abandonment, Paradis Perdu, and Destiny. Go check 'em all out! (Louis Wu 20:18:40 UTC)

CMT SPv2 A10 Public Beta
Dratt, on our forum, and TheGhost, via email, were nearly simultaneous about letting our community know about a new release of the Custom Mapping Team's SPV2 mod. You can check out the public beta by downloading the first map, The Pillar of Autumn, at Modacity. (You will, of course, need Halo: Custom Edition, a free add-on to HaloPC.) Dratt also pointed out a mirror at Halomaps, and a few screenshots he cherry-picked from XFire. (Louis Wu 12:39:51 UTC)

New Map Pack Release from CMT
Over at Bungie.net, there's news of a new map pack release from the Halo:CE mod group CMT. Four new maps, with custom HUD, new weapons, and more. You can find screenshots and download links on the H2Vista.net forum. Thanks to newDeviLedeT1 for the heads-up. Update: In case the CMT website goes down (180 mb download + bungie.net mention = lots and lots and lots of bandwidth), Dennis Powers, of Halo Maps, has mirrored the maps themselves, and has the bandwidth to withstand the blast. (Louis Wu 19:32:25 UTC)

Custom Map Team Update
Okay, so I've talked to DJ of HaloImpulse, and it's true, the Custom Map Team did, indeed, go over its bandwidth allotment, and it will cost DJ roughly $400 to pay it down. (The CMT crew is NOT on the hook for this - HaloImpulse, who was hosting their website, is. This is probably a good thing, because the Paypal link on CMT's front page is busted. If you want to donate, hit the Paypal link on HaloImpulse's front page.) The HaloImpulse and CMT links for downloads are currently offline - though they may be back tomorrow. However, the files are still available at HaloMaps.org - demand is high, so if you want to see roughly how long downloads will take, visit their bandwidth info page; it'll tell you which files are being downloaded, and what the average download speed is at the moment. We've also put up a mirror of the files; I make no promises about how long I'll leave it up (if demand begins to be painful, down it will come), but it's there for now. With patience and some net etiquette (be gentle, basically), everyone who wants these files should have access to them, even though the original hosts are down. (Louis Wu 20:18:36 UTC)

CMT Needs Help
Ouch - it's happened again. A Halo-related team has gotten in over their heads, bandwidth-wise, and is asking for help. Visit Wave Of Lag's forum post for more details. (What makes me saddest is that there's PLENTY of bandwidth available - for free - for releases like this, if they're set up in advance.) (Louis Wu 11:45:54 UTC)

Halo Custom Map Team releases Halo Singleplayer Mod
The Halo CMT team has finished the conversion of the single player maps to Halo CE; there are several places you can read about it. On the CMT forums, there's a full list of download links (maps, UI, extras, tutorials); the same info was posted on the Gearbox forums as well. There's a thread on our own forum, if you'd like to discuss. (Louis Wu 17:00:48 UTC)
