Building Social Communities for your Game
There's a great article over at Gamasutra, discussing how (and why) game developers can (or should) build social community sites for their games. It probably won't come as a surprise that Bungie.net and Halo 3 are huge parts of the article. (Louis Wu 22:03:22 UTC) (permalink)
Warthog Build
Holy... we got an email from Gavin Allmond, pointed out a pretty amazing page - a member of a forum he frequents is building a homemade warthog, inspired by the Weta vehicle. (Yes, life-size.) I've grabbed a local copy of the page, if we do something stupid like bring down the site - but for now, go visit darkforcez.com and check out an honest-to-goodness obsession. Writing For Love
Bungie's newest hire, urk, is making good on his contract, right out of gate. Check out 'St. Louis to Seattle: Urk's Tale' over at Bungie.net - a short but sweet look back on how he got where he is right now, a journey of interest to anyone looking to work for Bungie someday. I'd say welcome to the madhouse, urk, but you've been here for a while... (Louis Wu 19:51:20 UTC) (permalink)
The Cole Protocol - back copy
TTL Demag0gue let us know about a new post on Tobias Buckell's blog - it contains the back copy from his upcoming book, "The Cole Protocol". Read it, and you'll get a general idea of what the novel's about. Can't wait until next month! (Louis Wu 18:35:52 UTC) (permalink)
Community Spotlight: NeoGAF
Community-generated Bungie Favorites are fresh again - this week, the offerings come from the Halo contingent of the NeoGAF forums. Go read about these degener- er, fine upstanding citizens, and then play their silly games. Thanks, urk. (lolollolololololo) (Louis Wu 18:09:18 UTC) (permalink)
Hail 'N' Kill
Kral, from Halo.fr, sent us word that he'd created a Halo 3 montage - it's called "Hail 'N' Kill", and while it's very heavy on the effects, they don't (usually) get in the way of the actual gameplay, which is pretty impressive. (It starts sort of slow, but builds up nicely.) I think if I had to pick my favorite kill, it would be the noscope on the man-cannoner on Isolation (about 3:07). It's just over 4 minutes long - give it a watch!

Bounce me, baby Hawty McBloggy ran across a YouTube vid showing a 5-ricochet sniper kill - sort of makes you wonder what the limits are, doesn't it? Update: Ninjamonkey 117 stopped in to let us know that the max number of ricochets is 10 - at that point, the bullet stops. If the 10th object is a body, it is unharmed. Viper's Grand Plan
TTL Demag0gue has posted the latest Reclaimer comic - #102 reveals a little bit about Viper and why they're doing what they're doing. (All that's really missing from the inset on the third panel is a pinky finger.)

EOD Wearable Helmet Tim Munro sent us this pic of his completed Halo 3 EOD helmet master; he'll be using this to produce wearable copies. Very nice! (Louis Wu 14:17:52 UTC) (permalink)
Halo Wars Updates - Cobra, and Tokyo Musings
Looks like the Halo Wars website got a couple of updates last week - we missed 'em, but Planet Halo didn't. Go check out the Cobra, a funky rolling railgun, and a Dev Diary from the Tokyo Game Show. (Louis Wu 14:17:27 UTC) (permalink)
Halo 3 Mythic Walkthrough - The Storm
Gah! I totally forgot to post the fourth installment of Daniel 'Tyrant' Morris' SLASO walkthrough of Halo 3 yesterday - but you can read (and watch) The Storm right now. 9 movies, and 3500 words worth of tips, should get you through this level without dying! Check it out. (Louis Wu 12:23:43 UTC) (permalink)
