RvB: 2007 Machinima Fest Europe Vid
I missed this a couple of days ago, but Rooster Teeth posted the video they created for the European Machinima Festival for their sponsors; I would assume (though I have no evidence for this) that it will be available for everyone soon. It looks at what Red vs Blue would have looked like had it been filmed in other countries. It made me laugh out loud. (It's in the Halo 2 engine.) (Louis Wu 21:33:07 UTC) (permalink)

Game Invasion to broadcast Essentials Disc One
Looks like a significant chunk of the Essentials Disc One (the extra disc that comes with both the Limited and Legendary editions of Halo 3) will be available online, via Comcast's Game Invasion, starting Thursday (the one-month anniversary of the relase of the game). The entire 'Anatomy of a Game' documentary, plus the 24-hours-in-the-life-of-Bungie piece 'Git Ta Werk', will be available to watch. Thanks, MasterChief2829. (Louis Wu 20:45:30 UTC) (permalink)

From Ars, Answers
Anton P. Nym noticed a post by ferrex over at ars technica, explaining that the mysteriously vague warning in last Friday's Bungie Weekly Update was simply a notification that the Banhammer is about to be implemented. (Louis Wu 19:13:49 UTC) (permalink)

McFarlane Figure Update
On Saturday, Littlebigman pointed out the newly posted 2008 release schedule update for McFarlane Halo 3 toys; I hadn't gotten around to posting this, but we've received a few emails about it, as well, so clearly there's considerable interest out there. So check it out. (It's also available on Spawn.com - search for 'Halo 3'.) (Louis Wu 19:01:15 UTC) (permalink)

Killing the Scarab - REALLY EARLY
This post makes my brain hurt (but in a good way). pete_the_duck found a way to blow up the Scarab on the Storm (the first one in the game) about 30 seconds after the game engine LOADS it (and just a little after you SEE it, if you're playing normally). Film clip included. An explanation of how he managed this is here - no hacks, no mods, no cheats. I'm getting goosebumps. (Louis Wu 17:21:40 UTC) (permalink)

And it doesn't make me breakfast, either.
I just love articles like this one: MyGEN (an Australian gaming site) put up the "Top 10 Things Bungie Screwed UP with Halo 3". After stating that "in no way are we anti-halo or anti-Bungie", they go on to complain about stuff like glitches in Bungie.net site integration and weapons nerfing with comments like "they honestly plain old suck", "collision detection is shocking", "shoddy net code", and "bungie totally screwed it up". Yeah, that's definitely the sort of language I use when I'm trying to provide constructive criticism to a company I love. While some of their points have merit, many of the complaints are downright silly; it's hard to take any of it seriously when they complain that in the two weeks since Bungie announced it's separating from Microsoft, "we have not seen a single improvement to the reliability of matchmaking or their website." I hesitated posting this since it seems to be designed more to generate web traffic than to actually discuss problems with the game... I found this at N4G. (Louis Wu 17:04:32 UTC) (permalink)

Talking Point.
Yesterday, there was some speculation on our forum about how useful voice recognition would be in videogames. Stuntmutt's got his own take on the subject in today's One One Se7en. (Louis Wu 15:06:30 UTC) (permalink)

The Riot 70

Guides and a new podcast at R.net
Rampancy.net content madness: There's a new guide for the Cowbell Skull, an entry into the Weapons Guide (today it's the Spiker), and the kickoff of Anger, Sadness, & Envy, the Rampancy podcast. Co-hosts trindacut and Narcogen will walk you through the first level of Halo 3 (along with the opening cutscene) in about half an hour - it weighs in at 13 mb. (Louis Wu 11:27:23 UTC) (permalink)

If you think of it, someone will build it.
Someone created a guide to show you how to make a Halo 3 Xbox 360... out of paper. (No, it's not a COVER for your regular 360. It's a paper 360.) I don't know what to say. (Louis Wu 10:55:17 UTC) (permalink)

Photo Mosaic - Made with Your Help
Yesterday, we front-paged a request from sorahn for your gamertag, so that he could grab your Bungie.net screenshots and turn them into a photo mosaic. Several hundred of you agreed to help - and the first mosiac is now up to see. It was created with the first 2000 submitted screens, and it's available for download in a 5600x5792 version. Breaking Down the Walls
Out-of-Map stuff continues - pete_the_duck got some interesting pics in The Storm, and the7ftman put up clips of High Ground and Guardian in his FileShare. At this point, except for Isolation (and maybe a Campaign map or two), you should have access to the outside of pretty much ANY map... (Louis Wu 10:33:43 UTC) (permalink)
