On Edge. That quote from Chris Butcher just won't die, even though Bungie addressed it in the most recent Bungie Weekly Update - but Stuntmutt shows why it might not matter so much in today's One One Se7en. (Louis Wu 20:15:25 UTC) (permalink)
The Olympics of Halo Games in Action has kicked off 'The Olympics of Halo' - an online tourney. Swing by their forum for rules. Prize announcements coming later. (Louis Wu 19:18:35 UTC) (permalink)
MC in Paint Wow - sorahn noticed a YouTube vid showing someone recreating the Master Chief in MS Paint. There's something amazing about being able to create artwork that looks this good with a tool like Paint... (I could do without the soundtrack, though.) Update: here's the second part of the drawing. Thanks, newDeviLedeT1. (Louis Wu 18:43:35 UTC) (permalink)
Legend 3 - Sort Of Years ago, Mike Miller created 'Legend', and a followup, 'Legend 2' - these were basically Halo 1 campaign montages showing some really elegant gameplay at Legendary difficulty - the trick wasn't so much the difficulty, but the style with which the gameplay was performed. He was good enough that we asked him to create a Legendary Walkthrough of Halo 2, when it came out - and he did an awesome job. So today, when I opened up the forum, I was intrigued when I read this post - an anonymous poster (who went so far as to post via a proxy, so we couldn't check IP addresses) has created 'Legend 3' - which, he disclaims, is really only an homage to Mike's work, and will hopefully be REPLACED by a 'true' Legend 3 from Mike himself. I downloaded it - and I found that Halo Legend did a great job of following in Mike's footsteps; it's not about the kills, it's about HOW the kills happen. From fantastic flight control while sword-flying to a great no-scope on a perched elite to a truly novel way of killing a Major Sentinel, this vid is full of great clips. We've mirrored the original QuickTime version (linked in the forum post, 67.2 mb), and added a WMP9 version, as well (59.2 mb). Go watch - and maybe try and figure out who posted this! Random Acts of Beta Paul Maestri wrote to point out Halo Heads 43 - what happens when someone you think doesn't deserve it (as much as you do) gets access to the Halo 3 beta, and you don't? Well, there's always something you can take heart from... (Louis Wu 16:48:50 UTC) (permalink)
Halo Drumline Show GetOverITEnor found a cool film showing Center Grove (Indiana) High School's entry in an Indoor Percussion competition in 2005 - it's a drumline show featuring Halo music. Fantastic show! (As a side note, FancyShmancy inspired me to do some hunting on the last high school band vid we posted, last week - turns out it was Escambia High School, in Pensacola, Florida.) Great to see more schools using Halo music! (Louis Wu 16:42:40 UTC) (permalink)
Bungie's Angels Obienator, who released 'Gameplay May Change During Online Play' last year (and garnered high praise for it), has released a teaser for the sequel, 'The Haxor that Loved Me' - you can watch it at YouTube from that forum post, or you can download higher-res versions.
