That's one rude URL, KP Over at Bungie.net, you'll find a Community Spotlight shining on Nosferatu_Soldie, a Bungie.net moderator. Wanna see what the moderators do? Go read. Looks like KP tried to tell us about it a bunch of hours ago... oops. (Louis Wu 23:58:22 UTC) (permalink)
Et Tu, Brute - 720p, only 107 mb A couple of days ago, nitz stopped by our forum to say he'd re-encoded a 720p version of the Brute Vidoc; there are several already out there, but they're huge, for the most part (multi-hundreds of megabytes). His version has been encoded with x264 (an open-source version of the h.264 codec), and it's tiny, in comparison to its peers - 107 mb. It's playable on all platforms using VLC (though on a Mac, at least, you'll need something reasonably fast to actually SEE it) - nitz tells me it's nicely playable on a 900 MHz Pentium 3, using the Windows version of VLC. If you haven't seen this in hi-res because you didn't want to download a 300 (or 600) mb file... grab this puppy; it has no watermarks (it was ripped from the marketplace version), and though nitz denigrates its quality in his forum post, I'd have to say it's quite good. Tied the Leader - kicking off 2007 XerxdeeJ stopped by to point out that TTL is back up and posting, after a holiday break - and the first article up is a discussion of 'Allies' - and what that means. When you play them, you're not meeting mortal enemies - you're meeting a group of folks that want to be your friends after they blow you away (or vice versa). And isn't that the best kind of gaming? The Brains Behind The Music The cover article in the latest issue of The Escapist is about the composers behind today's game music, and Marty O'Donnell (and the rest of the Bungie sound team) get a nice nod: "I think one of the best examples is Marty O'Donnell and the team at Bungie," says Ian Dorsch, who's currently working on a game called Badge of Blood, by independent developer Warpig Studios. "The system they've developed for adaptive soundtracks is just jaw-dropping in its elegance and flexibility, and their work has really set the standard for the entire industry." The whole article is a pretty interesting read - check it out! Thanks to Ma1agate for letting us know. (Louis Wu 16:08:26 UTC) (permalink)
I wonder if it shoots? Omega was walking through the forest, and came upon a piece of driftwood in a stream. Looks like Mother Nature's got Halo on her mind, too... (Louis Wu 15:31:44 UTC) (permalink)
Production Issues Mister Froggy pointed out that Halo, Articulated #5 is now available - if you wondered what happened to the Heretic Grunt action figure, wonder no more. (Louis Wu 15:14:05 UTC) (permalink)
The Riot 31 Sigafoos wrote to point out The Riot 31 - a bit late, due to hosting issues, but up now. Community updates are the focuse of this one - swing by the site for a download. (The RSS feed is still down.) 20 minutes, 8 mb. (Louis Wu 15:12:27 UTC) (permalink)
MLG Pro Reactions - Shockwave A few days ago, MLG posted its Pro's Choice Awards - the top players voted to identify the best among the best. ShocKWav3 put together a blog entry discussing his feelings about the voting. Interesting read. Thanks to 3Suns for pointing it out. (Louis Wu 15:10:27 UTC) (permalink)
Separating the Meat from the Fluff Games in Action interviewed Shishka, recently of Bungie and now of Certain Affinity, the gaming company started in Austin by Halo 2 and 3 Multiplayer Lead Max Hoberman. Go read to get a feel for where he started, how he got to where he is now, and what's he's doing in his new job. Thanks to 3Suns, who noticed this at Bungie.net. (Louis Wu 15:01:06 UTC) (permalink)
