Halo 4 Preview from the Daily News
The New York Daily News had a piece on Halo 4 - they had a representative at the event in New York City last week, and you can read about both Multiplayer and the campaign demo shown at the event. (The demo showed off 5 or 10 minutes of gameplay from near the start of the game; there are really not many spoilers in there, but if you want to go into Halo 4's campaign with zero information, you should probably skip this. Color me Impressed
A fan named Ahst 'Zar Traotee sent in some pretty neat pieces of fan art you should take a look at. It takes some familiar Halo characters and puts a pretty peculiar spin on them, but a fun one nonetheless. Check out Friendship is Noble, Little Shop of Halo, and Wicked Witch. Fun stuff! MLG Reduces Its Reach
Some interesting news for the competitive scene as RC Master brought word to our forum that MLG recently announced that while Halo: Reach will be apart of it's offerings in the Spring Season, it won't be apart of the Live events; it will be an online tournament only. It will certainly be interesting to watch as this unfolds to see how not only the community responds, but what might change (if anything) when Halo 4 is released. What do you think? Last night Waypoint's website got a gift of BS
From an informative angel her friends just call Jess

There were also updates on the matchmaking front
But no change as surprising as a Halo 4 Grunt

in the city that can't catch a wink of sleep
Was held a meeting secret and quiet,

How do we know this? Well, see for yourself,
in the far back corner too tall to be stealth
Sits a rather wise man and his very close mate,
having fun but both staying up entirely too late

SpartanFinder - coming soon
gunn3r11 sent word that The Spartan Force is looking to test an online service that "will revolutionize gaming and matchmaking". They're looking for testers - all you need to do is join their community. (The actual product will be available "later this year" - it's unclear exactly what that means.) The reasoning... needs work.
Over at NeoGAF, PsychoRaven pointed out a new episode of ScrewAttack that lists their Top 10 Franchises that Need to Die. A certain sci-fi shooter is at the head of the list. GAF in general wasn't particularly pleased with the list in general... neither was our forum, when The Delanator highlighted it. Mostly, people didn't like the REASONS certain games made the list. From a Distance
Owen Thomas, from VezuviusProductions, let us know about From a Distance - it's a Halo 3 tribute. I'm not sure you can really call it a montage; it takes a rather unique approach to showing gameplay on Halo 3 maps. It picks a fixed vantage point on each map, places a camera there... then shows some multiplayer carnage from that viewpoint. Gives you a cool sort of overview of map flow! (He calls it a 'moving gallery of Halo 3's great multiplayer' - I would say that's accurate.) Go watch! (Tom Van Sinden 20:57:36 UTC) (permalink)

Unwind 2
RVideo sent us word of Unwind 2, a new video from ZoLA - it's 12 minutes of friends having a lot of fun playing Halo (and occasionally betraying each other). Gameplay is often amazing, some clips are absurd (it's not even all gameplay) - keeping track of what's going on is non-trivial, but it's definitely fun to watch. If you've got a spare quarter of an hour... go look! (Tom Van Sinden 14:15:21 UTC) (permalink)

(Side note: about 18 and a half minutes in, Marty talks about "The Halo 1 Love Theme" - if you've never heard it, Marty released it, along with a bunch of other outtakes, back in 2002. Edge Online let the world know (a little earlier than 343 would have liked, I bet) that Halo 4's music is being composed by Neil Davidge and Matt Dunkley - if you have questions, 343 is doing a special Facebook Chat today at 10am PST (with questions accepted at 9:30) - keep your eye on the Xbox Facebook page for full details. (Davidge shouldn't be a new name for most fans following Halo 4's development; we pointed out almost a year ago that he was responsible for the Halo 4 Teaser Trailer's music.) Thanks to BlueNinja (who heard it from Hypertrooper) for the Edge heads-up. Update: The chat will be here. (Tom Van Sinden 13:23:40 UTC) (permalink)

From Lurker to Leader: A Frags to Riches Story
We've mentioned the Lurker to Leader Panel at PAX a couple of times, because our own GrimBrother One was up on stage - but it's not until today that we can give you a link to actually WATCH it for yourself. GrifballHub's Goose Checka (the impetus behind this particular panel in the first place) let us know that the entire hour-long conversation is now up on YouTube. This discussion is near and dear to my heart; its core is all about how fan communities are managed, and how good leaders can help them grow. Every one of the panelists is someone I look up to as an example of fantastic fan leadership, and while I wish I could have been there in person this past Friday, to watch them live, getting to see this video takes away much of the sting. If you're interested in fan communities, and the people who help to shape them, GO WATCH THIS. (Tom Van Sinden 14:18:52 UTC) (permalink)

Shield and Sword - Shield World
Last month, we mentioned a forum post by Leviathan, one that looked at his own vision of where a Halo game could go. It was fascinating, and generated some really interesting conversation. Well... he's back, with the next installment. This one focuses on a mission titled 'Shield World', and reading it will give you a peek into Levi's mind - there are concept art pieces, diagrams of layout, ideas about new weapons, a sandbox, and more. After reading it, I wanted nothing more than to PLAY it. Go see if you agree. (Tom Van Sinden 14:09:09 UTC) (permalink)

Breaking In - Daniel Hanson
The latest Breaking In article at Bungie is a visit with Daniel Hanson, a relatively recent (October, 2011) hire for the User Interface team. As has been true of the last few of these, Daniel was hired well after Bungie's last Halo product was released - but as a glimpse inside the company, and as a window into what might be needed to get a job in the gaming industry in general, this episode (this SERIES) is a must-read. Practical Jumping on Reach Ep 3: MLG Sanctuary v7

Rooster Teeth Goodies from PAX East
PAX East is well underway at this point, and although I can't find video footage of the Community Panel that our own GrimBrother One participated in (yet), there are some interesting clips up on the official PAX Live Stream. The Rooster Teeth crew showed a scene from Season 10 yesterday - if you'd rather see it in its hi-res glory, wait until it's out for real (Memorial Day 2012 is when the season kicks off), but if you're just dying for a taste, the action's pretty hot. There's also a film of the full Rooster Teeth panel (which starts with a trailer for RvB Season 10 - no spoilers here - and also contains the scene mentioned above). Go watch! Yes, it's true. Bungie loves you.
I definitely have to question Sawnose's timing... but I tip my hat to his attitude. Over on Bungie.net, he posted a tutorial showing how you can keep your Reach player model updated on Bungie.net, even though Bungie no longer has access to any of the back-end data. They've put in a tool that will allow you to MANUALLY update to your current model - now THAT'S fan love! (The Bungie.net version is higher-res than the 343 version, and has your Spartan holding a DMR instead of an AR. In addition, the B.net model has the potential to be downloaded as a rotating video, though I haven't been able to test that yet, since it requires seeing the updated avatar first, and I'm still waiting - on both B.net and Waypoint.) Go read his post for full details! Thanks to bobs99 over at NeoGAF for noticing. (Tom Van Sinden 16:58:23 UTC) (permalink)
