Halo 3 drops to number 2 on Xbox LIVE
Halo 2 was released on November 9, 2004 - and from that point, until the week of November 13, 2006, it was the number one most played game on Xbox LIVE. (Part of that long, long run has to do with a dearth of killer titles for the time frame in question... but certainly Halo 2 was a truly playable online game.) Gears of War took over in the week of November 13... and remained on top until the week of September 24, 2007, when Halo 3 exploded on the scene. Halo 3's run at the top was much shorter than either Halo 2 or Gears of War - a scant 16 weeks. As of the week of January 14, Call of Duty 4 has taken over the top spot. Will it, too, be dethroned in a matter of weeks... or will it hold on longer? Time will tell. Thanks to MasterChief2829 for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 14:01:50 UTC)
