A 60-90 day dead period - thanks, H3
According to this article at 24/7 Wall St., the combination of Halo 3 in September and GTA 4 in October is causing gamers to stop spending money right now; these two games are being blamed for a general downturn in sales of other games. Ouch! Update: Thanks to John Ogg, who pointed out a new story about a delay for GTA4; looks like the fall season belongs to Halo. (Louis Wu 19:18:07 UTC)
