February 10, 2005 Link to this post They can't win. I find this intriguing... recently, GamaSutra offered a Question of the Week, in which they asked readers to discuss the most creative games of 2004 (thanks, Rampancy.net). What interested me was that out of all responses, only one person is quoted as having anything good to say about Halo 2 - and that person prefaces his comments with 'I know I'll take flak for this...'. Around the gaming community, there is talk of Microsoft adoptiong Bungie's innovations with respect to XBL for ALL upcoming games - love matchmaking or hate it, you cannot argue with its novelty and departure from the norm - and yet, when gaming professionals are asked to comment on creativity, they're apologetic when they mention this. Bungie has become the team you love to root against - the 800 pound gorilla of the gaming world, the 'they can't be cool because they're so popular' group. I don't know if that amuses or annoys me...
