Built for Combat

In honor of the release of the Mythic Map Pack today on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, Bungie has posted a roundup of cool tidbits you might or might not know about. Download links for the game, for the trailer, for the theme, the new project page on B.net plus a community spotlight of fan-created content, a reminder that Bungie Pro is free for three months for Mythic players, a summary of recent news, a recap of the 'Game with Flame' community event, and a reminder about yesterday's Podcast release (bandwidth is TOTALLY not a problem any more). A Prologue to Disaster
Adam Susskind dropped by to announce that he's made an official trailer for his weekly comic, 'Chaos Theory'. HBO Mythic Movie Contest

What is this, you ask? Simple: it's a new contest looking for fan-made trailers showing off the Mythic maps... with winners getting all sorts of goodies (Recon armor, Bungie Pro for their File Share, extra Mythic codes for friends). The rules are all there - read 'em. Read 'em carefully, because we're going to get a lot of submissions, and I promise you, if we can weed your entry out because you didn't read the rules, we're gonna. (No, we're not mean - we're just doing all of this under a little bit of time pressure, so we can't afford to be flexible.) Make your trailer, upload it to us, and then wait until next week for the results! Do it quick - submissions end late Sunday night/early Monday morning (depending on where you are). Halo Wars News Roundup
Bunch of Halo Wars tidbits came through the wires today:
- Xbox.com is hosting a Play & Win Sweepstakes - register (by downloading a gamer picture off of Xbox LIVE), then play a multiplayer game online between March 6-8. 29 people will win, with prize packages ranging from 500 MS Points all the way up to a 52 inch LCD, plus home theater system.
- Grunts R Us has posted a Halo Wars Skull Guide. As always with this sort of things, you're best served looking for them on your own... but I guess it's here, if you need/want it.
- blackouTT let us know that TheDigitalSet.com has released their first podcast, and one of the topics in this week's 'cast is Halo Wars.
- The official Halo Wars website has a global stats page - and total gametime has already exceeded 4 years. Wow. Thanks, Spartan-056.
- WorthPlaying reviewed Halo Wars - they said it's the "closest that an RTS console game has come to success in recent memory." (They gave it a 7.7/10.)
- The St. Petersburg Times also reviewed Halo Wars - they called it "an RTS for the crowd that doesn't like RTS games," and were overall quite positive.
- NeoXDonut remixed released Halo Wars footage into his own trailer, in anticipation of release here in the US.

Vids and Requests from Halo3Montage.com
Lando Griff1n sent us a few links you might be interested in. First was a music comedy video recreating Andy Samberg's SNL short 'I'm on a Boat' - it has the same naughty words as the original. Then there's a trailer for an upcoming montage by Hazmat v2, featuring NeoFlux jp. Matrix style pulled off very nicely. Finally, a post at Halo3Montage.com has a request for assassination clips for an upcoming montage that Hazmat v2 is editing; if you've got something good, go read for details on what to do with it. Halo Wars Trailer... Rehosted
Xbox Life has pulled the Halo Wars trailer we mentioned recently - probably because the bandwidth demands got too great. De Laal pointed out a re-encoded version (they cropped out the black bars that contained no info except the Xbox Life watermark)... but we think it's a little fairer to the original host to put up the branded version; after all, this seems to have been exclusive to them. You can watch it here. Update: This movie has been pulled at the request of Microsoft Game Studios.

Halo Wars Cinematic Montage
2900d4u was the first of many to let us know about a new Halo Wars cinematic montage that can be seen at a Taiwanese Xbox site. (If you're having trouble there, there's a lower-res version at Gametrailers.com.) This is FULL of spoilers for the Halo Wars story (mostly inferred, but pretty clear)... but if you check that thread on our forum, you'll see a whole lot of people who WERE on the fence about buying Halo Wars now firmly in the 'preordering now' category. Halo Wars on XBLM
The Halo Wars demo is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace (for Gold account holders); release seems to be rolling by region, so if you can't get it right away, be patient. It's 1.4 GB in size. You can also download the Call to Battle trailer (though this is available on YouTube (thanks, onebitrocket), or in HD from us in either WMP9 or QuickTime formats, 47 mb). It's a morning for Halo Wars! Update: Oops, forgot a bit. If you swing by 'Inside Xbox' from your 360 dashboard, you'll find a piece named 'Insider Moves: Let the Halo Wars Begin'. It was posted last week, so it's possible that it'll roll off the main Inside Xbox page, but I'm assuming you'll be able to find it in the Archive after that point. (If not, we'll make it available for download from here.) It contains some useful control tips for Halo Wars that might or might not be obvious from the demo tutorials. Montage Trailer... Defined
Okay, so Epic Movie sort of killed the word ('epic') for me... but it's back, now, because urk has pointed out Armeddragon77's trailer for his 3rd vehicular montage - and it's epic. (Except for that tank Killtrocity. I mean, hell.. guy 4 wasn't even moving!) Go watch. It's fun when people take themselves less seriously. (Or maybe more seriously. I can't tell.)
