Master Replicas Gets in the Game
Okay, so we already knew about Gentle Giant, WizKids Games, and Kotobukiya getting into the Halo Action Figure market (just as Joyride gets out) - looks like a fourth company is in, too. Corgi International, makers of Master Replicas, will be releasing Halo-related "gifts and collectibles" in the coming year. (They'll also be distributing the Kotobukiya figures.) Thanks, ODSTAdrianFii. (Louis Wu 15:00:53 UTC)

Desperation
Hawaiian Pig and Veegie have come up with another collaboration - a really cool scene rendered with in-game models by Veegie, then majorly customized by Pig. There's a forum thread with multiple links, and it's been added to Veegie's gallery here at HBO, as well. (Louis Wu 12:53:34 UTC)

New Map Pack Release from CMT
Over at Bungie.net, there's news of a new map pack release from the Halo:CE mod group CMT. Four new maps, with custom HUD, new weapons, and more. You can find screenshots and download links on the H2Vista.net forum. Thanks to newDeviLedeT1 for the heads-up. Update: In case the CMT website goes down (180 mb download + bungie.net mention = lots and lots and lots of bandwidth), Dennis Powers, of Halo Maps, has mirrored the maps themselves, and has the bandwidth to withstand the blast. Tied the Shoe! Erm, Tongue! No... LEADER!
Tons of new content over at Tied the Leader this week - there's a Halo 3 Top Ten list, a 22 Questions Interview with Gaming Horizon's Shiva Stella (funny lady), a call for patience, a clan profile of Golden Alliance, and a reader's poll, asking about the admirability of pro gamers. XerxdeeJ stopped by, as is his custom on Tuesdays, to let us know about all this goodness. (Louis Wu 15:55:38 UTC)

Immure 2
NeuroKoNeza stopped by our forum to announce that Immure 2, a sequel to a map created back in September 2005 by himself and Mothergoat, will be released this coming Friday, November 24. He's removed the Wasp, the flying single-person fighter, that unbalanced gameplay in the first version, and replaced it with another new vehicle - a Flame Hog (a custom warthog with a massive flamethrower on the back). Lots of pictures are available. (Louis Wu 01:17:47 UTC)

LifePod Launches
MereCatfish wrote to point out LifePod, a new podcast by FireDragon04, Nic, and Mere with a focus on Halo CE. They have an open-forum style chat section with a panel of community members, and this first episode includes an interview with Masters of the Custom Map Team. Episode 1 is 50 minutes, 42 mb. Tied the Leader - Kicking Hard
As is the custom on Tuesdays, XerxdeeJ stopped by our forum to point out new content at Tied the Leader. There's a 22 Questions interview with Karma, of Team Carbon, the recounting of a debt to be paid, and a Clan Profile of the TTL MLG clan. (There's also a paean to the goodness that is Gears of War... but this is a Halo site.) Check it out! (Louis Wu 15:56:31 UTC)

Guilt O' Lantern 06 - Results Are In
Voting ran for a week on the 2006 Guilt O' Lantern contest - and while a significantly smaller group of people voted this year than last (under 2,000, compared to last year's nearly 6,000), there still emerged a clear winner - congratulations to Lacie O.! Michael Coffing, who won the last two years, and was actually forbidden from winning one of the top three prizes this year, had the second-highest total of votes. Second Prize, with just a few fewer than Michael went to Adam Beeman, and Third Prize belongs to Ryan Heiner. We'd had some lofty goals for prizes - they didn't work out, so we've fallen back to gift certificates. All four prizewinners will get their choice of store - The Bungie Store or Gamestop/EB Games; first prize will get a $150 certificate, Second Prize $100, Third Prize $75 - and Michael Coffing will get a $25 certificate. (Don't feel too bad for him; his haul in the past two years includes a pair of Xboxes, a copy of Halo, a gift card, a bunch of small stuff, and two custom recordings from 343 Guilty Spark on his answering machine.) Check out the voting... and start thinking about designs for next year! (Louis Wu 14:08:15 UTC)

Halo CE 2v2 Tournament
MereCatfish writes to point out that the Halo CE 2v2 Tournament is now accepting team registrations. As the title might suggest, this will be a league of 2-player teams for Halo: Custom Edition on the PC. This is the successor to the Halo CE League; there are no prizes, this is for fun. If you've got a copy of Halo: Custom Edition, and a teammate... sign up! (Louis Wu 13:54:27 UTC)

Easter Eggs EVERYWHERE
Heh - the new EU commercial for the Xbox 360, Cops and Robbers, shows some cars with nicely customized license plates. Gears of War, 1106 (wait, that's NOW!), and Halo 3, 07 (sounds about right) - fun homage! Nice catch by Wolverine Monkey. (Screengrabs in this post.) (Louis Wu 02:41:50 UTC)

Full Playlist Overhaul
Silly me... I didn't bother to check online when I read that Team SWAT had gone ranked; I'd have found that there were other changes, as well. As KP explains on Bungie.net, Team Carnage has changed, as well - this time, the list comes from the fine crew at Real Custom Games, a 7th Column group. KP's writeup has a full list of gametypes - looks like I need to set aside some time for playing, stat! If you visit the Optimatch forum, you'll find a new post by Ninja 0n Fire, as well, outlining the rest of the changes - games pulled, games added on the various playlists. Good stuff! Halo: Mobile Portal Launches
A press release went out over the wire this morning - Verizon and IN-FUSIO (the mobile games publisher with rights to Halo on mobile phones) have launched 'Halo: Mobile Portal' for Verizon Get It Now customers. If you have a Get It Now phone, you can download the portal and have access to Halo wallpapers, ringtones, XBL stats, story snippets, and more. The section contains a locked area called 'The Vault' - content here is available only through codes hidden throughout the Halo universe. What does this mean? Well, one of them is available here at HBO. More details are forthcoming. (Louis Wu 16:23:46 UTC)

7 Reasons Why H2V > H2X
KP has written an article entitled 'Top 7 Reasons Why H2V Rocks' in the ongoing Vistravaganza that is Halo 2 Vista week at Bungie.net - from enhanced visuals to custom content, this list will let you know why you want to be plunking down your hard-earned samoleons when Vista is released (and H2V is available). Check it out! (Also, the front-page icon for it is pretty cool.) (Louis Wu 02:02:04 UTC)

RRX - the next BXR?
GotFrag has a writeup of the RRX glitch, and how players will need to adapt to best take advantage of it. Remember; this is aimed at the pro community, for the most part; Bungie has said that this (and other exploits that circumvent the normal play of the game) should be considered cheating in Matchmaking. Use these in your custom games, or in tournaments, but keep them out of Matchmade games. (Louis Wu 12:24:34 UTC)

Custom Map Team Update
Okay, so I've talked to DJ of HaloImpulse, and it's true, the Custom Map Team did, indeed, go over its bandwidth allotment, and it will cost DJ roughly $400 to pay it down. (The CMT crew is NOT on the hook for this - HaloImpulse, who was hosting their website, is. This is probably a good thing, because the Paypal link on CMT's front page is busted. If you want to donate, hit the Paypal link on HaloImpulse's front page.) The HaloImpulse and CMT links for downloads are currently offline - though they may be back tomorrow. However, the files are still available at HaloMaps.org - demand is high, so if you want to see roughly how long downloads will take, visit their bandwidth info page; it'll tell you which files are being downloaded, and what the average download speed is at the moment. We've also put up a mirror of the files; I make no promises about how long I'll leave it up (if demand begins to be painful, down it will come), but it's there for now. With patience and some net etiquette (be gentle, basically), everyone who wants these files should have access to them, even though the original hosts are down. (Louis Wu 20:18:36 UTC)

The Black Art of Halo Mods
The latest Halo How-to book from Stephen Cawood is now out; it's called 'The Black Art of Halo Mods', and there's some information about community input over at HaloMods. The news story there says 'click the button on the right to support HaloMods' - you'll need to visit the front page to see that button (which leads you to Amazon.com to buy the book). This book covers lots of info about modding Halo Custom Edition (as well as some console modding tips). Check it out! Thanks, Excal. (Louis Wu 22:30:33 UTC)

Halo Custom Map Team releases Halo Singleplayer Mod
The Halo CMT team has finished the conversion of the single player maps to Halo CE; there are several places you can read about it. On the CMT forums, there's a full list of download links (maps, UI, extras, tutorials); the same info was posted on the Gearbox forums as well. There's a thread on our own forum, if you'd like to discuss. (Louis Wu 17:00:48 UTC)

Google says we rock.
Heh - over at Google Video, there was an episode of Google Current that aired about a month ago that looked at the subject of 'net neutrality' - it talked about how this concept (which is concerned with a possible 'tiered' internet, in which higher-paying customers get faster bandwidth) has really only exploded in the last couple of months. During the piece, a recent 'This Spartan Life' video blog was discussed (because its focus, too, was net neutrality - we mentioned it here)... the part that amused me was the end of the Google Current clip. "You can watch the whole thing at thisspartanlife.com, and (for now, at least) that video blog loads very quickly." A throwaway tagline, maybe... but since we're providing the video hosting for This Spartan Life, it's still nice to hear. Thanks, Joshua Ary. (Louis Wu 11:19:58 UTC)

Gentlemen?
XerxdeeJ stopped by to point out a Reader's Poll on his Tied the Leader blog; are the weapons glitches that were in the news last week going to remain in your arsenal during custom games (or any non-matchmaking games, really)... or are you going to try and 'go straight' across the board? Sound off! (Louis Wu 20:02:59 UTC)

Halo Trading Cards - on Multiple Fronts
In the past few days, we've heard about a couple of different projects involving Halo Trading Cards; oriol003 set up a small tutorial showing how to make your own cards (visit his site for a template), and Dain Ironfoot sent along a link to a pretty in-depth website devoted to a customizable game built in the Halo universe. There are hundreds of cards described in these pages; the one thing they're missing are graphics of the cards themselves. (Seems like these two groups could get together and make some cool stuff...) Check out both sites - but beware, the second one is really deep, content-wise, and might suck you in. (Louis Wu 16:11:09 UTC)

Halo CMT Promo Vid
The Halo Custom Mapping Team has released a promo video, giving you a sneak peek at the content of their upcoming release, 'Halo CE: CMT Edition'. (This will be available on June 25.) It's basically a reworkng of the entire Halo (1) single-player game... all 10 levels. Check Wave of Lag's forum post for a link to the promo vid (20.1 mb, WMP9 format). (Louis Wu 14:42:25 UTC)
