I like to say schematics.
Upon studying Steven Loftus's Halo, Analyzed, Ωmega became inspired and decided to further detail a couple of models. First he took a look at the Pillar of Autumn model and came up with these two overlays. Then he took a look at the Covenant CCS-class Battle Cruiser and came up with this schematic. So far as the source is concerned, "The color pictures of the schematics were illustrated on Paint based upon several hours of game play standing next to Keyes near the front of the Pillar of Autumn's bridge, and I estimate that they are about ninety percent accurate (all the lines and symbols are there, but the dimensions might be a bit off). As for the text information, all of the specifics (anything without a question-mark afterward) are taken from direct quotes in the game, logical reasoning, and the occasional book text." Cool beans. In Amber Clad... half a meter long
Stephen Loftus posted a note on our forum about a new styrene model he's working on - this one is In Amber Clad, and it'll be to the same scale as his Pillar of Autumn model. We've put up a local copy in his Collected Works section - check it out! (Louis Wu 15:51:07 UTC)

Character Scale Chart Augmented
Stephen Loftus added 50% more characters to his Halo Character Scale Chart - you can now compare almost all the characters in Halo and Halo 2! (He left out the Keyes Blob, and the Flood Juggernaut (which never made it into the game), because their scale would totally dwarf everything else and make the rest of the page rather awkward.) Go play around! (Louis Wu 13:52:08 UTC)

Another Halo Novel?
Interesting... Stephen Loftus ran across this page at Chapters (a Canadian bookseller) - it lists an as-yet-unnamed trade paperback based on Halo 2, written by Eric Nylund (author of two of the three existing Halo novels), and published by Tor books (previous Halo novels were published by Del Rey). According to Chapters, it's due out in October. Accurate? A mistake? The ISBN number listed comes up blank at ISBNdb.com... but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. (Doesn't mean it does, either.) Intriguing, in any case! (While I was looking for other info about this, I ran across this entry at Amazon/Borders - an audio-book version of First Strike, available for purchase for $40. Scoop it up if you've been looking for this!) (Louis Wu 22:43:43 UTC)

Halo Character Scale Chart
Many people have been asking Stephen Loftus to put together a scale chart for Halo characters (he's already done them for weapons and vehicles). He decided the best way to handle the situation was to give people the chance to compare any pair of characters - so swing by his new Character Scale Chart and you can do just that! Pretty nice work - and useful! (Louis Wu 16:12:01 UTC)

Big, Fat, and Fuzzy.
Stephen Loftus has been busy again - this time, he's taken a close look at the Bumblebee-class Lifepod. Everything from design considerations to statistics to known passenger rosters have been covered - as usual, the depth is astounding. Go read. (Louis Wu 20:37:50 UTC)

Christmas Wrapup
Whew! Christmas was a day spent with family and friends, away from electronics of all sorts. (Yes, a number of electronic devices appeared under our tree... but their use was put off until today.) That didn't stop Halo fans from around the net from celebrating, though - so we've got a lot of catching up to do! Halo Babies put up a fantastic Christmas wish image, created by HB forum member Etoli. It's still on their front page - go see it. (Once it slips off, you can find it at this URL.) KillR pointed out that his Beyond Halo has a holiday greeting from the Great White North. Stephen Loftus turned his Pillar of Autumn model into a Halo-themed Christmas tree. Both Dillo and Darkneshasfallen posted Christmas-themed images on our forum. And da zing man created a great little 3D animation over at Newgrounds, entitled 'A Very Covenant Christmas'. I'm sure there are more examples around the Haloverse... but that should do for now! Update: There was a great Christmas wish from Amanda, of 7Pandas - I almost missed it. Their QuickTime version is noticeably degraded when compared to their WMP9 version - so I've whipped up another version. QuickTime users aren't second-class! (We're mirroring the WMP9, too.) Bigger than it looks
Stephen Loftus found some new information about the scale of Covenant Assault Carriers, and has therefore redone his UNSC/Covenant Ship Scale Chart. Those things are MONSTERS! (Louis Wu 19:47:38 UTC)

The Covenant CCS-class Battle Cruiser
Stephen Loftus has once again delved into the universe Bungie created, and put together a substantial quantity of information about the Covenant Battle Cruiser (the Truth and Reconciliation is an example of this class of vessel). It's a pretty fascinating read - but be warned, the page contains almost 300k of graphics (mostly in the form of thumbnails). Some of the pictures are amazing. Go read! (If you're new to Mr. Loftus' work, and you find this interesting, be sure to check out his other projects!) (Louis Wu 19:04:09 UTC)

PoA Uniforms, Updated
Stephen Loftus used Guerilla (part of the Halo Editing Kit released for use with HaloCE) to overhaul some of the information in his Uniforms on the Pillar of Autumn article. Go check out what's there now! (Louis Wu 23:01:58 UTC)

Halo-verse Planetary Scale
Stephen Loftus put together a pretty cool image showing the various relative sizes of the planetary bodies we know about in the Halo universe. This is worth looking at if you're having trouble pinning down how big, say, the Alpha 4 Halo is in comparison to Jupiter's moons. The full-sized image is way bigger than your average monitor, so it's been broken up for navigation purposes. (Louis Wu 19:46:53 UTC)

The Pelican, under a microscope
It's been a little while, but Stephen Loftus has returned with a new article - this one takes an in-depth look at the Pelican dropship; dimensions, capabilities, and how it's been used in-game. Go read! (Louis Wu 12:18:59 UTC)

Scale Comparison - updated
Stephen Loftus has updated his Halo Scale Comparison article with some new Halo 2 data - there are a bunch of new vehicles added to the images (Covenant Assault Carrier, Scarab, Phantom, Seraph, 'Creep', and some drop pods), plus some weapons updates, with new silhouettes. Nice work - check out the article again! (Louis Wu 14:28:03 UTC)

Covenant Weaponry
Stephen Loftus brings us yet another analysis piece - this time by way of his connections with ONI. It's a look at Covenant Weaponry, as found in Halo. It contains a wealth of information, including physical parameters, weapon strengths, and general mechanics. Check it out! (Louis Wu 19:17:59 UTC)

Covenant Dropship, Analyzed
A new work from Stephen Loftus - he's put the Halo Covenant Dropship under his microscope, and taken a close look at its capabilities, with plenty of cool in-game visuals. Give it a read! (There's more stuff in the queue for today, but it's gonna have to wait - it's Mother's Day, after all, so it's time to go pamper my kids' mother. Enjoy the day!) (Louis Wu 10:42:03 UTC)

Cairo Station Signage
Stephen Loftus has posted yet another in-depth study of Halo - this time, his focus is the signage of Cairo Station. Awesome job - and the pictures, all hand-done in Adobe Illustrator, are gorgeous! Check it out. (Louis Wu 01:01:25 UTC)

Minor Site Cleanup
We've placed a link to the Movie Peer Review Rating System on the news pages - if you've got a Halo movie you need hosting for, go visit! (There's now a stats section at the top of the page; you can get an idea of what we're seeing by looking at approval rates and processing times. Initial response has been smaller than I'd expected; is it possible that folks aren't willing to face the opinions of their peers, or is it just that suddenly, nobody needs hosting any more?) We've also augmented the 'Hot Pages' list on the right with a couple of new links (more coming soon, maybe). Update: A page has (finally) been added that contains links to all the articles we host here that have been written by Stephen Loftus. (Louis Wu 15:13:17 UTC)

Pillar of Autumn Uniforms
Another fun piece from Stephen Loftus - this time, he's chosen to look at uniforms used on the Pillar of Autumn. There's some interesting speculation, which he'd love to have input on (via email, or on the forum) - so read it over and toss in your two cents! Update: oops, looks like Stephen already STARTED a discussion. (I've been out all afternoon.) Use this thread, instead. (Louis Wu 22:44:57 UTC)

What Fits Where
Stephen Loftus continues his in-depth analysis of the Halo game world with a piece called 'The Pillar of Autumn Conundrum'. In it, he looks at the UNSC ship with an eye to reconciling various size anomalies - he finds that Bungie did a great job of remaining consistent with scale issues... but took a few liberties in the dimensional arena. The pictures are GORGEOUS. Check it out. (Louis Wu 15:58:58 UTC)

Size DOES Matter.
Stephen Loftus continues his in-depth analyses of the structural underpinnnings of the Halo universe - tonight, we have a treatise on how he's determined sizes of various objects and creatures. A good read, with great graphics. Check out his Halo Scale Comparison! (Louis Wu 03:16:53 UTC)

The Pillar of Autumn, Realized
Stephen Loftus has spent an awful lot of time studying the intricacies of the Halo world - to a degree that some might consider fanatical. In the coming weeks, we'll be bringing you a variety of his speculations and analyses... but to start with, we've put up a page devoted to a 1/1000 scale model of the Pillar of Autumn he's building. This is a work-in-progress; at this point, it's a skeleton of the ship. The detail, however, is astounding... check it out! (Louis Wu 00:00:57 UTC)
