The Pillar of Autumn, Revealed
It's been a really, really long time (over 2 years, in fact!) since we've received a new article from Stephen Loftus - but the dry spell is over. He's recently sent along a monstrous treatise on the Pillar of Autumn, as an indicative example of the Halcyon-class cruiser - he's analyzed it down to its very floor panels. If you've got a lot of time (and a fast connection - there are over 130 pictures!), swing by and read this masterwork on the very first UNSC ship we got to play in. It's fantastic! Man, that's big.
Heh - Stephen Loftus shows that, as mentioned in the Art of Halo 3 book, a UNSC Pelican is large enough to fit an Abrams M1A1 Main Battle Tank in its troop bay (though Bry would argue the semantics of 'fit'). Fun discussion! Update: a few cool details have been added by Lorraine 'mehve' McLees. (Louis Wu 23:47:08 UTC)

Halo Scale, Revisited
Yesterday, we got a note from Stephen Loftus - he'd used a tool pointed out on our forum to add some previously-unknown measurements to his Halo Scale Comparison charts. The UNSC Albatross Dropship has been added to the UNSC Vehicles page. Nice! (There might also be some new articles on the way, soon...) (Louis Wu 16:06:38 UTC)

Sizing the Ark
This has been discussed before, but the inclusion of our planet for scale is a nice touch. Stephen Loftus has used a screenshot from Halo 3 along with some previous reference info to estimate the size of the Ark. That's one big structure! (Louis Wu 13:15:16 UTC)

Halo 2 Strategy Guide updated for Vista
Stephen 'SoundEffect' Loftus wrote to let us know he'd picked up the Strategy Guide for Halo 2 Vista. Basically, they updated the Halo 2 Strategy Guide (for Xbox) with new screenshots, keyboard info (duh), and all the new maps released since 2004. Finally, there's a section on Achievements (including details on how to get them). Looks like it might be worth grabbing if you've got H2V! (Louis Wu 12:12:00 UTC)

Them Joyride Guys... They're Serious.
Wow. Stephen Loftus has been known for a while as someone who goes to great lengths to measure the Bungie Haloverse. Recently, he sent two images to be attached to his Scale Comparison article (a UNSC Weaponry Scale Chart and a Covenant Weaponry Scale Chart - these are both recreations of existing images, but with a twist; he's photographed all the accessories that come with the Halo Action Figures. I'm telling you... for toys, it's amazing how much effort went into making sure they were to the proper scale! Check these out. (Louis Wu 15:30:52 UTC)

Halo Scale Comparison Updated
Stephen Loftus has updated his Halo Scale Comparison article; the beginning of it hasn't changed, but if you scroll down near the bottom of the page, you'll find an entirely new scale navigation system. Starting with the Halo itself, you can drill down through the various constructs in the game and compare them with like-sized items. He's added dozens of items to the charts; go explore! (In a totally coincidental but rather fortuitous bit of timing, In_Amber_Clad just happened to ask about this info this morning; if you have questions or comments, this thread is a fine place to put them.) I know what you did last... week.
The Bungie weekly Update has been posted - and it's full of quite a bit of varied stuff. There's some interesting discussion (without details, of course) about Halo 3 progress, including some of the thinking behind objective-based multiplayer. (Yeah, if you're one of those people who think Slayer is all there should ever BE to multiplayer, this isn't for you.) There's a preview of a gorgeous new piece of art that will be available soon at the Bungie Store. There's an interesting tidbit about a new scale chart created by Robt McLees, for eventual use by WETA in their model-making endeavors for the Halo movie (I wonder if he could have saved any time by using the charts created by Stephen Loftus?). There's a nice summary of the recent playlist changes, and how they're affecting usage on Xbox Live. There's some pre-podcast interviews to be heard with multiplayer guys... and there's Pinkuh's bizarre and scary Mister Chief - with tribbles in his armpits. What are you waiting for? Go read! (It's at Bungie.net, of course, or in our Weekly Update Archive. Check out that animated icon...) (Louis Wu 01:11:17 UTC)

The Human Entry Vehicle, Analyzed
Stephen Loftus continues to examine the details of the Haloverse for us - his latest object of study is the Human Entry Vehicle, used by ODSTs (and occasionally Spartans) to quickly reach a surface from orbit. Give it a read - lots of stats, lots of pictures! (Louis Wu 03:20:15 UTC)

Halo Graphic Novel Preview now out
Stephen Loftus pointed out that the Halo Graphic Novel comic, the 16-page preview meant to whet your appetite for the real thing (due out on July 12) was released a couple of days go (May 31), but nobody on the forum's been discussing it. (Stephen says that it's got plenty of spoiler material in it, so he's not willing to START a discussion. Just a heads-up, if you'd been meaning to swing by a comic shop... (Louis Wu 12:29:30 UTC)

Covenant Boarding Craft, Up Close
Stephen Loftus sent along another analytical article, this time with the help of Dojorkan (who took some awesome pictures). This one looks closely at the Covenant Boarding Craft - that remora-like vehicle which attaches itself to any enemy structure and allows the troops inside to burn through a hull or outer wall to gain access to the space within. Check it out! (Louis Wu 15:50:11 UTC)
