November 15, 2013 Link to this post GDC Vault Frees Up Bungie Design Talks The 2010 Game Developer Conference contained a talk by Jaime Griesemer in which he described why the time between shots for the Halo 3 sniper rifle was increased from 0.5 to 0.7 seconds - and right after the event, Bungie released his slides in their Publications archive. (Unfortunately, that archive seems to be offline at this point; we've put up a local copy of the file, but we can't reproduce the entire archive.) The wonderful thing is, Gamasutra has made the video of that talk free - go watch it! (They've also posted a followup, presented at GDC 2011, called 'Design in Detail: Tuning the Muzzle Velocity of the Plasma Rifle Bolt on Legendary Difficulty Across the Halo Franchise' - watch both!) Update: I completely forgot about the halo.bungie.net subdomain; kornman00 reminded me, and clarified that the Publications archive IS, in fact, still online at B.net. Yay! (Louis Wu 20:44:09 UTC)
